Borta sat with Ahanu in his lap Cherry had gone to check her brother over again so he was taking shift with the little one.
"Seems now you have a uncle, though dont think he will be able to hold you. But then again never can tell they might have the ways of who they think you are the born image of. Reminds me i need to at lest teach you something or practice it anyway." he said as he moved and got a stick to draw int he ashes of the fire holding the child so they could see as he drew a circle.
"Alright Ahanu this is the heavens. Its round because it is no questions about it. The seven gods control the heavens. The seven gods are the father, the mother, the warrior, the maiden, the smith the crone and the stranger. The father is the god you pray to for guidance as head of a family and for passing judgement. When you start courting or having kids you worry about him i guess. The mother is who you pray to with child birth, fertility and above all marriage. Again when your old enough. But at the same time both of them in prayer make up a prayer for family for protection and happiness. That you can do anytime." he said as he drew them in at the top.
"The maiden you pray to for chastity until marriage or hopes for in courting a woman. But i'm sure me and your mother will pick out a good one for you so you dont have to worry. The warrior you pray to for strength in battle and protection in combat. The smith well that's for any crafts man or working class. He keeps you safe in your work for you can never tell if you will lose a finger or two. The Crone you pray to for wisdom, guidance and at the same time visions. She helps you out when your in a bind and cant tell you head from your ass. And finally we have the stranger. Your never going to hear him mentioned much. The stranger represents the unknown and death. Only song that is ever sung to him is the last breath or scream of a dieing man or one that is slated to die. You pray to them when the time comes for you to cross so that they can deliver your soul to the village of the forgotten and remembered." he said drawing each in on the circle before connecting them to the middle.
"Together they make all of us and watch over us. We come of age and bare the marks of them to show that we respect and are willing to uphold them to protect the tribe. In this way we live on and our spirits live on through those that come after us." he said as he held the child.

After taking over as head of the village Borta knew some things where going to have to change. Part of that was getting rid of the items of the new gods that had been made. To him gods other then the seven where not his and he would not have his people oppressed of their original beliefs. By placing new gods in there place it was turning a back on there ancestors.
The harder part was hunting as well of both animal and human. The chief before him of the cannibal tribe made it a point to kill any one that was not cannibalistic. "The fool didn't see the flaw in his plan it seems." he said knowing well that this was a red flag to many. By so many being killed some might have family that could harm them and possibly try to kill. That was why borta had a rule with his killings to kill those that did wrong in the eyes of the seven and at the same time kill those that wasted kills. This was why he set traps where he did before he came here. It was because people over killed and he didn't want that to happen to the land.
He was originally of the Smithing clan that meant he knew that the world was give and take. At this rate the tribe would get Longpig now and then if he ran his cards right. He was sure he could work deals with the orcs he knew so that he could talk them into giving over prisoners that where slated for death anyway. At worse he had to rmember one thing the weight of the tribe was on him now.

When borta began to speak cherry turned around thinking he was speaking to her . But as she watched she smiled. She smiled because even though the babe would probably not understand, but it was good interaction and it was never to young to begin the interaction .
She listened to him for a moment . And then went to check in her brother . Her own tribe had been dismantled . They like this one had fallen victim to the new God's and forgotton the old ways, but borta had retaught her. The ways of the cannibal God's.
When she had arrived to her hut her brother was not doing so well , but he was alive . When there villiage was attacked she and her family were separated. She had not seen hide nor hair of her family for a year. Then Williard came only 10 years old he had managed to survive . A year he was nothing but skin and bones and frost bite was threatening his finger tips and toes. They could only pray, she would help feed him. And talk about the 7 much like borta did . He slept for most of the time she talked. When he had the strength for speaking, they spoke about their family . She found out that her mother And father we're dead . That he kept with the elder two brother at the beginning. But a tracking party had split them up and from then on he was on his own. He was definitely a survivor. He ate what he could find mushrooms Berry's made small traps for small animals ..but when winter hits the hunting became scarce and the cold unbearable. He began to starve. He could not remember where they had been separated at . " Well if it is in the fates ..we will all be together once more "
She patted his hand and went to back to her husband . They had to talk about politics . Especially of what to do with pregnant wives of the old cheif.

Borta looked over the map they had for him and where talking over the things that needed to be taken down by the time cherry had came into the hut. The few that where in there of the men that came to talk with him also told him they had 20 volontiers to go out on a scouting mission to deal with the issue of cherry and her family.
He simply nodded and dismissed them to wait until his order to send the men but to have them ready themselves at a moments notice to go out. Once they left her turned to her and smiled a bit. "So how is he? He asked moving back to his spot to sit so that is she wanted she could use his leg to rest on. Seemed he was still avoiding chairs even in this place.

Cherry would indeed sit upon his lapm borta was 8 foot plus cherry was only 5'3 and very petite and so she looked like a child upon his lap , but she was indeed a full grown woman.
" My brother and I spoke, he can only remember walking for several days, and being separated from them, by a tracking party. They could be anywhere, And there is no way to track them now being almost 9 month later. Even if he did know the exact place they were separated. He might remember a land mark as he regains more strength " she gave a half smile
" i fear it would be too dangerous for us to go back to the villiage even know , I am sure anyone poking around would raise suspicion"
She looked at him "About the old Cheifs wives, three have come and ask to stay with you and I told them only after I have stopped bearing children will allow you to lay with them .the one we spoke to before still agrees, the other two did not like that , and left to find husband's of other men. She said she wishes not to be a mother yet. And in the mean time she will help with the children and house work.
She then sighs again " one of the pregnant women wish to stay to be your wife also. I have not given her an answer, I want our children to be your first children,if she has a male and you are married he will have claim to your legacy. " She did not like that idea especially because of who the child father was . " I thought perhaps we could offer them perhaps to older men who have not married yet,or who's wives were lost due to the cruelty of the old cheif."
She looked at him wondering if he would be okay with this . " If they choose not to have this choice then perhaps we can build a lodge for them in spring to raise their children together "

Borta nodded on that the one that was willing to wait was good but the others where a issue. "this will sound harsh but it cant be helped if she wants to be with me even with child the child must be a girl or she can not be with us. i will not have a risk of the boy growing to manhood and trying to challenge me. At the same time if she doesn't like that then she will have to find another husband as i will not take one that is of the former chief that did nothing but destroy our ways." he said
"as for your old village the main thing we have to look into is mostly finding your brothers. It will be hard but there is a possibility of finding them if they are older and at the same time have had more training then the younger. we can send them the way he came and a few other directions 5 in each group as to not raise alarm as a hunting party of 5 is normal. then once they find them they can bring them here and either start a new life or be buried if they are not found alive." he said not liking that he had to say the last part.
"we also have a issue with some of the things that the old chief had done. they made a call that any that came here be killed on sight. if anything worse call you could make as you need people to come around but at the same time not raise alarm. im thinking on making deals with other villages that are not like us for one reason alone." he said

She listened to what Borta had to say. And nodded to him " I will see when williard wakes again if he can remember any land marks.that will help in the searching "
She then went back to her orginal thought:
" What if we claim the Cheifs former wives as our daughters, the pregnant ones, there are three .We can arrange marriages for the, With older men who never married or put them in the care of older women who will teach them the ways of the 7 also teaching the children they will bear.
It will also help us keep an eye on the mother's to make sure they are not spreading the ways of the new God's under our noses or secretly to their children."
She looked lost in thought for a moment
" Also it will get them out of the hut and harder for them to undermine our or make secret plans "
She got up off his lap to feed the babe as he started to make his hungry noises " as far as what rules he placed, you are the cheif now , change them " she smiled.
" I believe as long as we mind our meat source,. Stopped attacking on site we should be mostly accepted . Maybe eventually working the slavers or pirates as most of the meat,then wouldn't even come from this land. And will provide a small income if we act as a storage.
It might even provide further relations with the orcs..if we can help them with trade "

He nodded some on the act of the talking to her brother once he woke more. "That might be for the best then we will have to bring it up to them about possibly being seen as that if they dont like it the other option is one i rather not take as it could cause the mother to look down on us." he said letting her up as he looked back at the map
"opening trade with pirates could be good but i was also thinking on making deals with surrounding villages. they always have bounties for some that are wanted to be executed. and some are put to death once they get trailed and sentenced. i was thinking we run bargains with some of the towns jailers that if they want them dead why not send them our way and give us a reason to not have a possible uprising and invasion. a sign of good promise we take care of the prison population and some of us come and buy good from their towns without a sign of force." he said
he had been thinking this out for a long time and in his mind it would work get the cannibals excepted as a way to keep from a extended strain on the small towns tax payers to keep a prisoner for waiting for a new gallows to be built or anything just have the poor soul sent to the cannibal village to have his body fully gotten rid of and a justice done for the family's of the victims knowing that the criminal would suffer as much if not worse then the family loved ones had. the village of the harmed kept there hands clean and his village got food to ration out to keep them stated for a while.

She listens to what Borta had to say about providing the first of their meat and to make 'trust' again. With the small villiage close by she nodded " you are right and it would not draw attention , the forest are still plentiful and we can use the one or two humans we get a month to have a community dinner . At the new shrine dedicated to 7 "
" In the mean time I will order that all evidence of the new God's be brought forth we salvage what we can, burn the rest and then make new shrine in the middle of the village behind the elders hut and yours .. "
She wraps the little one up and places him down to sleep after his full belly while she waits to see if he would approve of that.

Cherry smiled. As borta looked at the child. He was an excellent father . If borta would pick him up the baby would still sleep in his arms. Or he might wake up . Either way he would be peaceful and happy in his father arms , knowing he was always safe well protected and loved there .
Cherry would make the announcement and she would follow door to door .. as the people would remove their shrines some happily so . The ones who were not she would make mental notes and make sure their elders of the villiage would pay special attention to their children. So the children would adopt the teachings of the tribes even if their parents did not.
Once all was gathered . She would get borta so he could make an announcement of the new shrine built to the 7 and his plans to the villiage about gathering meat. And there plans to further the prosperity .. letting him be the voice during these times. And it was his idea
Cherry would handle the other things the gathering of the people . She had his back as the saying goes .

Borta came out after making sure the child was well placed and looked through things he seemed to poke through the items and then place then into 2 piles some in one some in another. once this had been done he took his spot between the two piles and looked to the on lookers "i have had a long thought over the night and past day. to keep the safety of the village and of those in it the village will go back to the old ways. the piles i have here one is to salvage for the items in it can be reused to fit the temple shrine to the seven gods." he said raising his hand to the right of him there was a good but but not as much of it was as big as the other "this pile on the other hand the items in it are not to the likeness nor the teachings of the seven. infact they are the opposate." he raised his hand to the left of him to point it out. "the faces and writings of the old gods will be rubbed off and painted over remade in the likeness of the old and the items of the new gods burned in sacrifice to the original ways of our people for it is through them that we will keep ourselves safe."(edited) "the other parts of what my plan for here come with the keeping of peace with other areas and villages. I hail from the tribes of the north. we had ways of keeping safe from outsiders to keep us alive. we will use those ways here. we will make deals with surrounding townships to take those that caused them harm. murderers, thieves and other law breakers. give the families of the victims peace of mind that those that harmed them will suffer worse at our hands." he said "we will also be in time building on the beach for the beach has its own bounty. human meat will be shared when it is given as no one will go without. killing anyone on sight at random is a way to bring harm to us. we will not kill on sight. instead we will only kill those that trespass against us and mean us or others harm. She would watch the people as they would react to what Borta would say . She watched their faces . She would not react only take count if they had a look of disagreement to his face. There's were not many only the few that did not want to give up the teachings of the old cheif . But she had a plan for that . That was to teach the children. And to place the family in a position to care for an elder. Always a watchfull.eye cherry had .
She then nodded and stood and brought the three pregnant woman forward that had been wives "we will claim these women as our daughters and find them good men , as we are taught the fertility in a woman is a virtue and so is mercy as is taught to us by the mother, they have agreed to these terms .so any men who have reached mid.life who are not married, who wish to be step forward and claim your wife . And know that you have been blessed with a child maybe not of your blood, but these women are fertile and will provide you with a good home and children of the future "
She waited a moment as three men stepped forward all who supported borta . She was thankful .

"we come soon to the time of the maiden though the shrine might not be finished we will still celebrate the coming of spring to her the night before the planing once the ground has been tilled the celebration will be set. after the festival for one day. the fallowing day we will begin the planting so that by the time the mother shines on us we will have a reason to pray for a bountiful crop as the maiden will keep the seeds and help them grow as we hope to build out people once again" he said

Cherry couldn't help but smile when he joined the three hands together and gave their blessings . She knew the men would be grateful to have companionship for their older days. And the women would be grateful to have father's for their children and honerable men . As was shown by the similar tattoos borta had to show their deeds . It was beautiful thing . And it made cherry happy .
Then borta spoke of the festival . Oh so much fun . She remembered the festival in her villiage before the planting especially as she was a young woman . It was like a coming out party and she would get offers to take up courtship from various young men . She refused them all of course .
Then her villiage was attacked she manages to survive and then borta helped her and she fell in love . And they had there first child. She hoped when she conceived her second life it would be just as easy as the first.

Once they had taken hand borta looked to the others "young boys look to these men and women. they have proven themselves int he eyes of the seven. the men bare their marks as i do as all men should. to go from life without the markings of the seven to manhood is to show fear of them and to show them that you reject their teachings. " he said knowing that what he said next would likely cause a uproar. "it is why i have made a choice. those that bare the marks of the seven you are now men. you can be in courtship or take a bride. marry the one that has been oranged by your family or chosen for you or keep your current bride. Those without the markings of the seven but have married as of now you are to go to the batchlors huts, your homes with your birth parents for you are not a man. you are still a child that has yet t undergo rights of passage. those of you who have no brides and have yet to find one or about to be joined this goes for you aswell. until a marking is placed on you you can not partisapate in the coming out of the youth to find a partner. you can not lie with your bride and above all you are not allowed to speak to them until you prove yourself strong enough to be a man" he said
he knew that this was going to come as a shock but it had to be said he had seen to many of there people not go through the rights. they had to know the pain of the ancestors to know if they where ready to become a father or not. to take responsibility as he had learned as the three men and learned. "not know the markings of the seven are won by you when you go through this should you not continue or show fear through the pain of the seven you will not be allowed to return to your partner. the mother and child shall instead be given to men who can take the burden of the family and they will find a better life with them. their children learning from the strong. you will bare the marks unfinished for 3 years before you are allowed to try again to gain the favor of the seven at which point the marks will be gone over from the beginning over and over until you either bare the marks or you refuse the pain once more and will stay a shame to your family and to those that came before you."

Cherry even gave a look to borta. But it quickly dissolved off her face quickly . He was trying to see who would follow him who really believed in the 7 and who didn't. This was easy way to have a supporting villiage . Some of the.men seemed mad . A woman stepped forward
" I am pregnant with my third child and you will take my husband away from me and a father away from his children ?!....and shame me by saying I am single woman with no husband ? ! Another women nodded with her
Another man stepped forward " I have just married my wife I fought for and won her in the proper way .. why should I do that twice.?
Another man " we know your wife did not go through the trials for a woman of the 7 she comes from a villiage who did not follow .. we know that you search for her brothers who did not go through the trials .. why should we be different .
Other young men stepped forward and said they will go through the trials to and women as well.
Cherry looked to borta to see how he would respond to those questions .

"to those of you that are with child you will not be shamed for you will go to one who bare's mark as these three have. you will have your shame removed. my bride has proven herself already. she has bored me a son. show me a female here that could do as she has by carrying a child that you all have seen. is there a woman here that can say with confidence that they are not scared of carrying the child of a giant. as for her brothers should they themselves wish to join they will be treated no different. her youngest brother should he live to manhood will be expected to do as all our people have." he said he knew for women the trail was simple as it only involved fasting and sitting in a sweat lodge but because cherry had proven herself to the seven by showing her bravery to be with borta he viewed it as the fact that the seven approved of her. "lest we not forget it was after seeking advise from her as all men do from those that have proven themselves that i won in battle. Boars gave themselves to us as a sign of the blessing of the Father for the boar skin is one of his prized items. this alone should be proof to you that she is not needed to go through that which would place our child in danger as she can not bring the child into the sweat lodge"

She watches as two or three of the men grab there wives and children and pack up to leave . She hoped borta would simply let them go . For the others ,they understood borta words . Some of the women talked to their husbands and said they would wait for them . To go through the trials .
Then an elder stepped forward and told borta which men had passed the trials allready but could not get their mark once the old cheif came to power . Which was only 1 or two . This would leave several who had come to manhood who had not done the trials.
The reason why the women's was simple was because they were the protectors of the home the care takers of the family and children. The bringers of fertility and the harvest . They provided for the home , their men and we're treated equally. But had to live up to different set of standards of rules. Then the men . There work may not have been hunting or fighting ..
Then in a surprise a few women stepped forward including the woman who wanted to be bortas second wide " we wish to take the trials as the men do and for go our duties as women .. and become warriors . "
She wondered if borta would look to the elders for advice on this and/or ask her .. if he looked back cherry would nod. She saw no problem with this

Borta nodded "then it shall be for those of you that passed the trials bring your families to my hut. you will start your markings today. to those that have the tools bring them for i will personaly place the marks. for you few women that have asked this of me i will speak with the elders you will have your answers in two days." he said he wanted to make sure he got information from the elders first of those that wanted to take the trials. he would then think on it and ask for the sevens guidance to see if they would give him a sign as to why they shouldnt. "to the elders you are welcome aswell in my hut durng the tattooing for you are the eyes of those that will go to the seven to give word to the ancestors of those who are to be marked that their blood still runs strong. to the young who have yet to gain their marks come so that you can see what it is to be a man" he said

The groups split apart as normal,then men who had gone through the trials we're glad they would not have to go through them again.
What most people didn't realize is that man who did not make his trial was not shamed , it was his mentor who was shamed , because it meant his mentor had placed him a position he was not ready for . Inporperly trained and pushed him too fast . The trials were not easy by any means and even with proper training it was gruesome .
Borta volunteering to prepare these men for there trials was a great statement and if all made them , it would be a great testament to his own manhood and would make him wise and voice of the gods
The equipment would brought in as the two who had passed there trials would getbtheir tattoo.

Borta had then lay on there back so that he could start he would work from the back t the legs then from the arms to the belly and chest before he worked on the fact last. he worked in this way going over the spots that where not as painful first so that they would have a build up to the worse part. the fact was hard to work as if the man flinched in any way the marks would be marred and all would know that he showed fear int he face of the gods. all the while the men would have to face this with nothing for pain or anything to help the wounds. they would both not reseive anythign for the pain or to help them until the last of the pare had been marked from heat to toe with the markings of the seven. once this was done animal fat was brought and rubbed on the youths bodies to help heal the wounds and to make it so the markings shown bright in the contrast of the skin. he lead them out and called the others out to look on those that had gone through the trial. "I now show these two who have undergone the marking of manhood. they have proven themselvs to their blood and to the seven. let it be known that they are now men" he said "to the ones who wished to be warriors of the women tonight i will speak with the elders as the time has come for me to talk with them of the fates alinement for you"

The men would wear them the tattoos with pride the other men who were scared .. before could see as they went back to their wives and children that they would be blessed . They would see that there wives that had chosen them we're some of the best in the villiage . They we're hard workers, fertile and we're also kind and gentle . They could see that this was a good way of life . And through this life they could also bring in wives from other villiagess and the people would know that these men were good men .
The elders waited both men and women for borta they had started the fire and lit the pipes .. they invited borta into the cirlce as none was no higher then the others . And each even the young like borta could provide wisdom .

Because they were old they thought more , they comtiplated more " if they should fail the shame would go on those that have prepared them to run the trials .for the ones that are training them know what involved , .." The others nodded on agreement . They stopped and thought more .." we think you should train the three women ..for the trials .. if you can prove , that you can train three woman and they can pass with the men .Then surely you are a great leader. , The women themselves choose to to live lives not as woman do for this tribe .. which means they will be angry and bring dishoner to their husband's and home even if they mean not too .
So we see know harm in them becoming as men do

They would listen to what he had to say ..they would puff on there pipe a little bits " then when the time comes, you will tell us they are not ready , when we ask why .. you will tell them and they will wait there three years . To try again. It will be the same with all who mentor the young of the ways if the 7 and help prepare them for their trials .. you will decide when they are prepared for their trials .."

Borta he nodded some on that "if they have families this will also be a test for their loved ones to see if they are faithful not only testing the ones going throuh it but at the same time those conected" he said knowing that they might see this as a good test
