Count Blood Moon was down but not out. Sure his castle had been taken over by Nadin but had that not been the plan all along? Well it had and it hadn’t… He had meant for the boy to take over and make the castle a place of fear and death but instead Kern’s spies told him the place was re-decorated to resemble the more sickly styles of the living and happy.
Kern had many questions about this. One, how had the child become a man? Two, how had the child managed to escape to begin with? and Three, what had happened to his back up plan Orin? These were questions that needed answers but first he would have to build himself up again. He would have to start over.
Had he lost the fight? Yes and people had thought him dead too but no he was not dead, he had only been in hiding and gathering his strength after being cast down by Tempest. He moved now through the shadows, cloaked drawn over him and his form thinking on all this and trying to figure out what to do next when he felt a bump and turned to see the young girl Coby who had run into him.
To her he would be a figure covered in a black cloak and smelling of dirty and moss. She would not see his face and he might seems to be an old crone with how hunched over he was. He reached out to snatch her arm “you! come with me!” the man barked, his voice gravely and worn.
Coby left the Temple in a hurry so quick that she wasn't paying attention when she bumped into a man. Her attention was on her foot. She looked up and saw a black cloaked figure, when he demanded she go with him, she shook her head and started to turn, twisting that very ankle that was still healing and went down to the ground, the crutches not being able to keep her up

He held firm to Coby's wrist, overly long nails scratching at her skin as she would try to struggle free. "foolish child! you really think you can get away from me" he said, squeezing tighter and letting her know he could break her arm if he chose to. He watched her fall and laughed "stupid child" he scoffed and pulled her to her feet again by that same arm. "you shall be the beginning of my new family, you and Orin..." he hissed, hoisting the girl onto his shoulder with more strength than one would think someone his age would have but then he was a vampire. He moved off now carrying the girl through the woods.
"Let me go!" she kicked with her good foot and began to punch at his back as he flung her over his shoulder. "Let me go!" she cried out again, her eyes looked at her crutches as he carried her away
"Shut up child! shut up or I will drain you right here and now!" he growled from under the cloak, his keen nose now picking up and the scent of blood. He licked his lips and changed directions to go towards Regnasef
his words and that growl caused her to stop shouting and flailing against him. She gulped, tears forming in her eyes and she began to cry

The man grunted and shifted her on his shoulder as she finally stoped screaming and flailing. the area of wood he took her through looking just like any other woods. The temple slowly disappearing into the distance.
At some point Kern lost track of the scent of the blood and changed direction again. The trees about Coby would change to a more spruce like verity and she would catch glimpses of animals darting from one place or another to get away from the man carrying her. He said nothing too her and asked her no questions, ignoring her sobbing and not really stoping until he too was becoming too tiered to carry on. By then it must have been hours of being carried and bumped around.
Finally she could hear the creak of a door and could catch a glimpse of a cabin as the man carried her into what must be an abandoned hunters shack from the smell of rotting flesh and the pelts strung up one the walls. She would see the animal cadge only moments before being tossed into it in a less than kind manner. He closed the door on her and locked her in.
The room was small, to the left there was a single bed and to the right as a table with a few bits of gear for anting left on it along with some books. the floor was made of food and dirty and the walls were made out of logs stacked on top of each other and held together by moss and dirt. Across from her was a window that looked out onto an apple tree, the room lit by the sun though only for a moment as the man closed the shutters and the room fell to darkness.
Brought her right hand up, reaching out towards the temple as if to ask the Goddess for help. She couldn't believe what was happening to her. After awhile, she saw animals running off in all different directions. Her ankle was throbbing. She was thrown into a cage, "OWWW!" she landed on her right side, causing that broken ankle to shoot a sharp pain shoot up her leg she sat up quickly and reached for it, it hurt worse than before

Coby wouldn't be able to se at first hen things went dark but her eyes might adjust after awhile and she could make out the man moving to take off that black cloak of his. It had been a major risk for him to be out in the day time like this and his hands were burnt badly from the experience though that wouldn’t be that easy to see in the dark cabin.
He put his cloak over the chair by the desk and turned to shuffle over to the bed and light the oil lamp hung over it so they could both see better. Now sh could see him for what he was. He as a man of average hight around 5’6” to be exact but hunched over to the point of looking no taller than 4’9”. He was very old looking with a grey and wrinkled face that was covered with the signs of a rough life.
Liver spots, moles and other things adding to this look. Hi left eye had a patch over it and she could see a scar on his face that indicated that particular ye had probably been cut out at some point. His nose was long and hooked and what hair he had left on top of his head was white and wispy.
He wore black boots that looked like they had seen bette days with a pair of brown pants made out of an old potato sack and a long sleeved shirt so dirty it was hard to tell what it’s colour even was. He turned to look at her no with that one good yellow eye. “so then.. what is your name child?” he asked at last, licking his dried out thin lips.
Lifted her head, trying to see the man as her eyes tried to adjust to the darkness. "P...ple..ase.... l.. let me... go..." she sniffled as tears continued to flow out her eyes and down her cheeks. The tears were from both being terrified and being in a great deal of pain
The lights in the room were on now, as the man had turned on an oil lamp. He kicked the cadge when she did not answer him. "I asked what your nam is" he snarled at her
looked at him as he turned on the oil lamp, she thought he looked creepy in the glowing light. He kicked the cage and she coward. lowering her head and just started bawling as she continued to hold her broken ankle. The movement of the cage didn't help the pain any. "C...C....Coby" she managed to utter out
He nodded then and grabbed the chair bringing it over to sit on "very good Coby... now listen.. I'm an old vampire and I have plans... plans that involve you. No I can help fix your leg but in return you will be the start of my new little family. "you will get to come and live a life with me and be taken care of." he told her with a scowl on that ugly old face of his. "now I'm going to ope the cadge to look at your leg.. if you run or try anything I will kill you... got it?" he snarled and flashed her his fangs

Lifted her head to look at him as she heard the chair being placed by the cage. He then started to speak. He had plans... she was going to go and live with him? New little family? She liked the sound of having a family again. But this man... he was scary. He told her if she ran, or tried anything, he would kill her. She nodded her head to show that she understood
He smiled, the smile not helping him any as it just made his face wrinkle more, he could easily be 80 years of age though h was likely much older. He got up, shifting the chair back so he could open the cadge, putting himself in her path should she try to run. He offered her a wrinkled hand to help her out of the cadge and onto the bed. Normally he was not this nice but if he as going to use hr for his plans she would have to be in better shape than she was. As is she would only slow him down.
Watched him as he moved the chair and opened the cage. He offered her a hand and those soft brown eyes looked to it, then up at him. Slowly she brought her hand up and placed it in his. She moved from the cage, dragging her right leg behind her, then with his help, hopped to the bed and sat down on it
His hand was rough to the touch and cold too, touching him a lot like touching a dead body, the man wincing a bit as she touched the burns on his hands. He eased her out of the cadge and brought around his other arm to assist the girl to sit on the bed. He never once apologized for how he had grabbed her up as he was in a hurry and the sun was out. Too much time spent out in the sun was tiering and dangerous for vampires and she could see and fell the burns on his hands from the short exposure of grabbing her and hauling her here. "so Coby... tell me about yourself" he said calmly as he moved to grab the chair and brought it to the bed so he could sit in front of her.

Noticed the feel of his hands and looked to the burns on them, she then looked up at him. He grabbed a chair and sat in front of her. She looked down at her ankle, then up at him. "I am 14, my family was killed by vampires..." she looked to his hands again, remembering how cold they were and the smell of burnt flesh when they were outside. She looked to him scared, "Please don't kill me"
He sat in his chair listening to her tale and taking her injured leg into his hand and then putting it onto his lap so h hands could be free. He chuckled when she said her family had been killed by vampires, his own fangs coming into view. He could hear the fear in her voice and it just made him smile
"I will not be killing you my dear. At least not so long as you do as I say and don't try to get away. We have a long trip ahead and manny a stop to make. We must seek out Orin and see if my careful planing was worth all the money I put it to it. He is a bit young still but so are you. Once you are both old enough.. well.. heh” he just chuckled again.
As he talked he had been rubbing his hands together and now placed them on the injured leg, sending a soothing warmth through it that would ease the pain. He griped her leg to feel along it as he tried to find the rout of the problem, pinching at nerves that would help to relax the sprain with those sharp nails. It would still take time to heal but it would at least feel better than it had a moment before.
“Once it’s dark I shall go feed and then come back for you and we will go to the nearest town..I will take you to a healer to get potions for your pain and get your leg wrapped up properly. After that we shall get a horse and stat the search for Orin” he told her,

Nods her head at his words. Thinking to herself, okay, all i have to do is be good and do what i'm told. it will be like having a parent all over again but this time consequence would be death... just then, while she was thinking, The pain started to relieve. She was so happy for he was going to keep her alive. A healer? she smiled at the thought of getting her ankle taken care of. She nodded her head as she heard him tell her their plans for the eve. "Alright"
He moved again gently moving her leg to the bed and putting a pillow under it to keep it raised up. "I used pressure points to ease your pain for now. Get some rest for now little one, that broken ankle still needs a proper haler to fit it" he sighed and moved about the small cabin in thought. "Coby.. was that a temple you were in when I snatched you?" he asked her now as h fiddled with the books on the table across form the bed. "why did they not men your leg there?" ha asked her calmly.
Look to him and lays down on the bed, "It was them Temple of Light. They said the best way to fix a bone is to let it heal naturally" she watched him as he fiddled with the books
He scoffed "Og course thy would say that.. the idiots. you have to set the bone in place to get it to heal right. I could just turn you now and fix it but that would be the end to my plans" He smiled at her in a creepy manner
Listened to him, she then gulps and nods her head as she heard him talk another nod is given to him

He went quite again and things were silent for a long time. He ignored her now for the most part as he was far to busy thinking about what would need to be done next. He would only talk now if she asked him questions. Something she had yet to do. When night finally did come he put that big black cloak back on and picked her up from the bed to carry her into town.
"Now when we get to the doctor you are to say I am your grandfather. Understand?" he asked her. When she agreed he said nothing more of it, bringing the girl into the now quite town and over to the doctor.It was a nice enough little town though most of the people were in bed by now.
Entering the doctors office at such a late hour got them in to see the woman rather quickly. Kern sitting Coby down on the bed and taking a seat across from them. The doctor smiled at Coby, her blog curls dancing as she moved and gave Coby a check up head to toe.
“so Coby.. how did you break your ankle?” she asked as she grabbed a fe potions of a shelf to hand to the girl to drink. The potions would do away with the pain the doctor was about to cause and make Coby’s whole leg tingle.
Nods her head as he takes her into town. She would do as he instructed, telling people that he was her grandfather. . The doctor was nice, other than Coby's ankle, the doctor would find that she was in perfect condition, "Well, I fell out of a tree" she told the woman. Hey it wasn't a lie
The doctor smiled again, she was human and Coby got the feeling that Kern was keeping a very close eye on them both. Th woman sighed a bit "what is with children and climbing trees?" she asked and handed Coby a vile of blue liquid. "drink that dear and close your eyes. I'm going to set you ankle so the bone can heal better and this will do away with the pain" she said and would wait for Coby to do as she was told before going ahead and setting the ankle back into place.
nods her head and takes the vile of blue liquid. She brought it to her lips and drank the contents within. She then watched the doctor reset her bone back into place
Finished the doctor smiled again and would grab a few things to wrap the ankle with to keep it still. "right you need to stay off that ankle for a few weeks at least and take these potions when it hurts too much a it will help with the pain." she smiled handing Ker to prescription for the potions after wrapping the ankle. She then gave Coby a new set of crutches. "her you my dear. They are on the house. " she said
smiled to the lady doctor and nodded her head as she took the crutches from her. She used them to stand up and then settled them into place. After she did, she looked to Ker and asks, "Are we ready grampa?"
Kern was glad things were going so well "yes my dear.. let us go get your medicine and then get a room for the night " he said and moved off with her "oh miss I will pay in the morning yes.." he said in a suggestive tone and the doctor just nodded looking hypnotized for a moment. He left then with Coby to go get the medicine thy needs and using the same trick to avoid paying for this too before heading for a tavern and getting a free room to stay. H put the beg of medicine on the table in the room. "right.. if I leave you here to go feed will you try to run away?" he asked her cautiously.

Nods her head as he agreed to go get her medicine. She used the crutches to head out with him to get the medicine, then they went back to the cabin. He asked her if she was going to try to run away as he put the bag on the table, "Well lets see here, not like I can move too fast and you could probably track down my scent. I don't want to die, so what do you think the answer is to that
He gave her a look like he might hit her for mouthing back back instead he just laughed "good.. good. I'll have them bring food up to your room. I'll be gone all night and wont be back until the next night as I have travel arrangements to make. feel free to wander the town if you want just.. don't leave it" he warned and pat her on the shoulder. "oh yes.. if you need to pay for anything.." he went on as he remembered not everyone could just make people think they had paid. He pulled out a small bag of gold. "this should do" he said, handing it to her and then was out the door.
gulped as she saw the look he gave her. She nodded as he said he would be gone all night and took the bag of gold they he gave her. "I will see you tomorrow night then." she turned towards the bed and hopped on over to it, lowering herself onto it and brought her legs up as she turned
He smiled again and left her alone in the room. She would be able to hear the voices of the patrons below her in this place as the tavern had a bar as well as rooms to rent. This room was much nicer than the cabin with a carpeted floor and comfortable bed. The room was well lit and had a window looking out on to the sleeping town. there was even a basin for washing up in if she wanted.
would use the basin to wash up in in the morning, but for tonight, she would get comfy on the bed and lay down, going to sleep thoughts of having a family again ran through her mind and she smiled as she drifted off
The morning would greet her with the crow of roosters and the sound of people below here laughing and carrying on as the had their breakfast. The little town come to life as people busied about getting ready for the day or already taking their first break after an earlier start than most. A knock on the door to her room was heard "room service! a female voice called from the other side.
Coby's eyes sprang to life as she heard the woman on the other side of the door, "Coming..." she called out and turned, hanging her legs off the bed. She grabbed ahold of her crutches and used them to get off the bed before setting them in place to walk. She hopped on over to the door and opened it, hopping backwards to make room for the woman.

A red haired girl no older than her was at the door "your grandfather said to bring up our breakfast for you since you were hurt. Such a nice man that one" sh smiled carrying the tray of food in which consisted of eggs sunny side up, toast, tomatoes sliced up and some sausage as well as condiments to put on it and the utensils to. She put the tray on the table next to the bag of medicine. "it's already paid for so no worries." she said
smiles at the girl and nods,"Thank you" she smells the food and smiles, it smelt delicious
She turned and looked at Coby now "oh my but you did have a good fall. " she frowned. "well in any case back to work for me but do feel free to come down if you can. I'll be back to deliver lunch. is there anything you wanted in particular?" she asked
Nodded her head as she spoke of Coby having a good fall, "Umm how about steak and potatoes and carrots?" she looked to the girl a little hopeful

The red head nodded and took the girls order of steak, carrots and potatoes. "very well miss. I will bring your food up this afternoon. Have a good rest of the morning" she smiled and left Coby to her own devices as she exited and returned to her work downstairs.The breakfast of eggs sunny side up, toast and tomatoes sliced calling to Coby from the table where it sat.
smilles to the girl, "thanks" she waited for the girl to leave then closed the door behind her. Coby then hopped over to the desk and sat down. She picked up a fork and began to eat
The sound of music picked up from down bellow as a man sang about the traveling life of sailors. People could be heard laughing and talking and then things went quite again as the day finally started in full. People left the tavern to go to work or go to bed if they had worked that night. the call of children at play and angry mothers from out the window died down too as the kids went to school, to work with their father o settled in to do chores with their mothers for the day.
enjoyed the music down below and smiled as she heard people laughing. When she finished eating her breakfast, she moved to look out the window, watching the children outside till the day began for the world outside. When it did, she hopped over to the basin and drew her water, she undressed then slipped in for a nice long bath
The children outside were of all ages. She had seen some playing with each other by tossing the ball about and others getting hit by their mothers for one reason or another. Some like her had no parents and these she could spot staling from the food venders for their morning meals. As she settled into bath a blue bird fluttered in to her room and perched on the foot of the bed chirping away and hopping about.

Looked over at the blue bird and smiled. She began to wash herself, then leaned her head back and closed her eyes. Those arms came up and rested over the edge of the basin, sooner or later she must have drifted off because when she woke, the water in the tub was cool against her skin. She got out and dried herself off.
Just as she was slipping the dress back onto her, a knock at the door. Using the crutches, Coby hopped on over and opened it. It was the girl again and this time she had Coby's lunch. Coby smiled and let the girl in. She watched as the girl switched plates on her. "Oh, can I get some juice too? The girl nodded and headed off with the empty plate
Coby finished her lunch and was full. She decided to go out for a walk. Not wanting to leave the pouch behind, she grabbed it and shoved it inside the dress. She then hopped on over to the door and opened it, heading out and down the stairs to the main lobby. Those eyes looked around as she headed towards the entrance and went outside.
She began to roam the streets looking at the different shops that were in town. Seeing one in particular, it caught her interest and she went inside. Once in the shop, she looked to the different dresses and found a nice brown one with yellow trim that she liked and purchased it. As she left the shop, she noticed it was getting dark and decided to head back towards the inn |

The tavern would be full again as people had come in for their lunches and some would turn to look at her as she passed, mostly because she was a new face and they were curious. She would notice that most of this town was human with only a small spattering of half elves and a single gnome who seemed to work at the bank based on his clothing.
The town was a small one with one school and a single church big enough for all. It had a main shop for foods and post and the single clothing shop she had happened into smelt of oranges.
People came and went along the streets on foto as nothing was all that far away.It as warm and sunny and mostly peaceful.
She was greeted on her return from shopping by the red haired girl ho asked her if she would be staying for dinner or heading out? No sooner was this asked than the vamps returned in his black cloak and came up behinds her.
“Coby my dear you won’t be staying her tonight. I was going to take you on my travels to fine Orin but you would only slow me down so instead.. I have purchased a house just outside of town here you are to stay until I return with the boy” He told her in a calm yet cold tone

was just about to answer the girl of not knowing, when she heard his voice come from behind her. He told her she wouldn't be staying there that night and that he purchased a house just outside of town for her to stay till he returned. She wondered what she would do for food and drinks, but did not argue or question, "Alright grandfather. I just need my medicine"
The room so full of life before went quite about her with him the like they knew what trouble he represented. He looked between the girls and chuckled. "don't worry.. your little friend will bring it by latter.. you know the house I mean right?" he asked the red head and the girl nodded. He moved to take lead Coby out and through the town now "I will carry you if you like but it may look odd for m to do so with so many around..." he whispered to her as they walked.
noticed how silent the room went and she looked up at him. She looked between him and the girl and blinked her eyes when the girl nodded her head as if she had been to the house before. She followed him out the door, feeling eyes upon her as the patrons watched them leave in silent. Whispers could be heard, but she was unable to make out what they were saying. They reached outdoors and she held the bag in her hand tight as she heard him, "I'm fine walking." she looked up at him and gave him a slight smile then looked ahead

He passed the shop she got her dress from and a f houses as well as the general store. He went past the now darkened school house and smiled at her word. He waiting until they had left the town behind and started up a hill before he talked to her again. “I have hired people to take care of you. This town is your home now and the woman and man at the house your new father and mother for all intensive purposes though they are just the house servants there to keep the house clean and cook your meals. In essence little one you are free well at least free to be in this town and live your life. I will be sending tutors to train you as well you will b the new countess by the time you are of age” he told her as the walked up the hill and the house came into view.
they passed the shop and the stores, as well as the school. She heard him tell her that there was a man and woman servant at the house and that they would be her new parents for all intensive purposes. She smiled and he spoke of tutors and becoming the new countess when she turned of age? She looked over and up at him, "A countess?"
He looked back at her from under his black robe with his one good yellow eye “yes dear a countess. I am a count you see and hide I will not be maying you myself I intend to marry you off to Orin who is also a count and those make you a countess my dear. with such a tittle you should be able to contest Nadin’s hold over my land and get my castle back. I can’t do it myself see because I’m legally dead.. and making yourself legally alive again is rather too much work. ho would have thought this ay would be less work. I just have to wait until your old enough fill out a few forms and marry you to Orin” he smiled a crocket smile as he now lead her into the house to meet the two that would be caring for her.

nodded her head as she listened to him. "So if I don't die, I will be marrying this Orin. What if he and I don't like each other?" she wondered as they made their way into the house
The house was a very nice house with at least thee stories too it, though the inside was scarcely decorated as he had only just got the place. It smelt old, musty and unloved in. The man in question was very short and had no hair and looked to be in his 30ties and the woman was taller than him with black long hair and a larger figure/ Both greeted her and bowed to her.

Ken will be at your side no mater where you go Coby and if you do try anything... well lest just say this place does have a nice if small dungeon Ken can lock you in if you get out of hand" he warned. "I will be back.. eventually." and with that the man was gone, leaving her with the two adults alone in the house. The servants going back to their jobs as needed.
