WARNING: THIS EVENT WILL RISK DEATH TO ANY CHARACTERS THAT JOIN IT!
The seige on Ansem will be a wave based battle where each player will need to fend of waves of undead hoards. The number of waves and number of undead that hoard will be based on how many players decide to join the game. The object of the event is to fend of the undead and keep them from reaching the tavern as their goal is to kill the citizens that are hiding within.
Each player has 5 health points to survive the hoard while all undead in the hoard will have 1. A player will roll a d20 against the DM's roll to hit, a successful hit will result in a kill. Rolling a nat 20 will result in a critical success, allowing the player to kill multiple undead at a time!
In addition when the player reaches 0 hp they will be considered incapacitated and NOT DEAD. An incapacitated player must reach an hp of -3 in order to be considered dead. Another player can choose to attempt to save an incapacitated player, using their turn to pull the player back to safety.
Being the undead, they are naturally weak to holy magic. A player MUST declare they whether or not they can use holy magic or are wielding a holy weapon before the start of the event. Whenever a holy weapon is used that player will gain a +1 to hit and a +2 to hit whenever a holy spell is cast.
When an undead gains a successful hit on a player the DM will roll a d20 to grapple, 18 or higher will be considered a success and the undead will be grappling the player. While grappled by undead the player will be unable to move and must fight where they are until they can successfully shake the undead, while grappled the undead will have a bonus to hit the grappled player. In order to break free the player must roll a successful hit on the grappling enemy in order to break free. Be WARNED the player can be grappled multiple times by more than one undead and will be unable to move until all undead have been shaken off. The undead get a +1 bonus to hit for each undead grappling the player.
Other players may attempt to save a player from a grapple. When attempting a roll to aid another the player must suffer a -2 to roll or risk hitting the opposing player.
Several of the priestesses that protect Ansem are healers and know healing magic. If a player gets too low in hp, they can choose to retreat for a turn and heal a 1d3 of damage for each turn they remain retreated. BEWARE however at least one player must remain on the battlefield at any given time or the field will be overrun and the battle will be lost. Once after every wave the priestesses will heal all players 1d5 of damage before the next wave.
Once the last wave is successfully fended off a boss battle will occur. The boss will be treated like a player enemy and will have 2 hp for each player in the event. During this fight the only undead in Ansem will be the boss, allowing the players to focus collectively on stopping the boss as it attempts to reach the tavern.
Those who wish to brave the undead siege, may luck of the dice be with you.
