(Continued from here: Breaking the Peace) The Carrion Lands had seen worse than a few earthquakes... though it did do quite a bit of damage. If Monet were to follow any Tyran deity, it would have been the God of Chaos and Destruction. Yet she'd distanced herself from temples and Gods long ago, especially after her twin brother Mordred disappeared. Now, she had a son as well. However, that was a complicated matter that still confused her. She'd been told by Laelia that the child was from both the twins, somehow. Mordred was now gone, and baby Zepher Kaliba would be without his father. That left Laelia. Not that she was incapable of motherhood, but it was something she'd expressed sternly she never desired. Yet here it was... the Commander had been corrupted and tainted by the Vargo twins. It was both a blessing and a curse for them all. Monet wasn't sure how to handle it, so for now she'd been keeping her distance and only lurking around in the shadows occasionally to make sure Laelia and the child were well. The Carrion Lands often went neglected, evident by its appearance both inside and out. Cracks in the stones were forming, and spiderwebs and vines had almost all but taken over the walls. A few rooms in the north west wing were lost to the earthquake... crumbled into a pile of rubble. One of those rooms had contained very rare components needed for some of the dark magic their family practiced and would be hard to replace. "Curse you Lycard..." she muttered as she continued on to inspect the damage. She glanced into the room most important to her: where her sister Lyf was born. Her mother and father had sacrificed themselves in order for Lyf to live... their last act in Tyran, one of love. Monet carefully inspected the area, avoiding stepping on the spot where her parents had died out of respect. It seemed nothing in this room was disturbed. Not even the decor sitting on shelves had shifted. Content, she moved on. The rest of the Carrion mansion was more or less okay. Some of it would need repairs, some rooms would need resealing, and some of the magic charms and guards would need to be done again because their runes were disturbed. Monet decided to remain here for now, and try to put the place back together. She sent word to Sapphire, and Amrite to join her and help, though she wasn't positive they would come. The loss of Daemonicus had been hard on Amrite and her twins. It seemed male figures in the family didn't last long. Hopefully that same curse didn't fall upon baby Zepher.

Despite the laws of the world, the current destruction felt across the land and inconvenience of the timing, there was a Knock at the mansions door, it was subtle at first, but more directly placed as to make sure one was heard Knocking, outside the mansion stood a man with a Red scarf a clear Indication was the fanged symbol on the scarf itself, this particular mans name was Mattimeo and he was a Shinobi Messenger from Bane, he was young handsome, skilled and well so enough that he had made it here to this mansion in the middle of the most god forsaken part of Tyran. But he did not show such disrespects with his eyes, only thought such thing's with his mind.
If there was to be no awnser he would simply stick the message to the door with a Kunai Knife and leave, he had a lot of messages to Deliver the message upon inspect either spoken to or read by the owner of this house would simply state.
"Dear Current Lord/Lady/King/Baron/Sir/Madam"
"Due to recent event's, including that which only just shook our land, Would like to call a meeting of the powers of Tyran, this meeting will be held in the Floating City of Bane, City in the Skies, Locations will be given only to those who accept this invitational meeting, for Security Reasons. Please Reply Promptly within a week's time the messenger will return to accept you're inclination to come or not".
You'res truly, King Sirius Sef.
Upon the delivery of his message Mattimeo would pay his respect to the person he delivered it to with a Formal bow and Exit on foot, seemed he was going to do this all on foot....

Monet saw the shadows shift, and a whisper came to her to let her know that there was a stranger in the land and knocking at the door of the mansion. This person was either brave, desperate, or stupid. To come to the Carrion Lands meant to risk death, as it was very inhospitable lands.
As she opened the door, she saw Mattimeo with a dagger in hand about to strike down (on the door) only to stop and bow, giving her the message. She nodded and accepted the scroll as well as the message, giving no answer to the man as he departed. More power struggles... it seemed that was just part of life in Tyran. New Gods, new lands, new power. She supposed it might be a good thing for her, because it shifted attention away from Blackthorn's previous chaos in the Capital.
Perhaps a meeting with others in power wasn't such a poor idea. At the very least she could attend and listen to what the others had to say. She wasn't under orders to speak or provide any sort of support or information. So she penned out her reply on the back of the scroll Mattimeo had given her, and crumbled it in her hand as it was swallowed up by black flames. The shadows would deliver the message to the appropriate person... who that was, she didn't know or quite frankly care.

Clay had stuck close to Monet though he did let her be alone in the mansion, not entering unless given permission. The land was incompatible with him but he didnt care, he set his camp up within view of the mansion but far enough away Monet could feel she had her Privacy.
He had helped at least keep the lands stable during the quake though he couldnt prevent the split from the northern lands. Perhaps it was better this way, the Carrion land always seemed an isolated place, only now it was more so. He watched from his camp as the messenger had arrived and deliver the letter but returned to tending his campfire. He knew if Monet needed him she would call for him.

Monet stepped out from the Carrion palace and glanced across the dead lands that once crawled with her father's minions. It felt a bit lonely actually, not having the place overrun with the undead. Some minions remained of course, and a few were even loyal to her due to her bloodline. It just wasn't the same though. The tower her brother had taken over during his reign with the creature that joined with him had nearly crumbled away.
"Clay..." she whispered as she collapsed backwards toward the ground.
"I'm lost, I don't know what to do." she said to him once he appeared, knowing he would. She'd show him the letter requesting the visit to Bane. "I feel like hiding away here in the Carrion lands... yet I know my sisters will need me eventually. Should I start facing the world again, or stay alone, with you? Watch over my Sun and her child from the shadows."

Clay had appeared from the earth underneath her catching her and sat there holding her as she spoke. He thought for a moment before wrapping his arms around her. "If you need more time here, i will not argue. Though i think you should have more of a presence for your sister at least. I have a feeling shes worried about you staying isolated out here. Politics be damned but family is eternal" He chuckles a bit "I should know, looks at those dingleberries i have to put up with in Gaius"
At the question of Laelia and their child he shakes his head "I think, you should at least send Laelia a letter, try to open some communication between you two and find out what should be done. I can understand the feeling of not wanting to corrupt the child but i think Laelia should have a say too whether your around or not. Talk to her, see where things lay and go from there" He kisses her forehead "I'll be here to support you no matter what you choose"

Very few were allowed to see Monet in such a vulnerable state. Clay was one of those. Somehow, she knew he'd catch her as she fell and once he held onto her and spoke, she found herself curling into him for comfort. His words made sense of course, and she nodded softly. "I sent word already that I would meet with these people in Bane. I just needed your second opinion on if I should follow through. You're right... as usual."
She gave a very brief chuckle and closed her eyes when he kissed her forehead. Outside of family, Clay was the person she trusted most. Laelia as well, though the situation with her was a lot more complicated. Leaning up, she pressed her lips to his own for a long moment before moving to get up shakily on her feet again.
"Can you help me with some of these repairs? ...please?" she motioned for him to join her, a faint shadow washing over him so that his essence would be recognized as her own while in Carrion and protect him from any of the protections the place had against those not of Vargo blood.

Clay grins a bit "Im not always right, i just give my honest opinion" He returns the kiss then helped her to her feet. He looks up at the mansion as she asks for help with repairs and nods "Stonework can be done in no time naturally, everything else, well im not an ace carpenter or anything but i will repair what i can." He watches the shadow roll over him the nudges her with a smile "Does this mean were going steady?" he chuckles a bit

"You are such a strange creature," she comments in return to him asking if they were going steady. "My heart belongs to a few people. I do not settle, obviously. However yes, I do care about you Clay. If you can be satisfied with that, then you can consider what you wish." A cold answer, but one that offered much. Without so much as another word or look, she moved inside and proceeded to go to work on Carrion's palace.
"Don't go in the large tower over that way," she said, pointing in the direction where Mordred's tower was. "I cannot protect you from the traps he set up there. I do not know his fate, but his magic remains. I don't wish to lose you, so don't go over there."
Even Monet knew better. Last time she'd tried to save him in that tower, everything went wrong. It was a wing of Carrion that perhaps only Amrite would be able to transverse. The twin's bond had been severed, so she didn't have the tools she may have before to weave through his defenses.
So much death here. It was a place that needed to be preserved for its history and the memories it held for their family.

Clay nods to her and smiles "I know you dont settle Monet, i was just making a small joke since you cast that aura over me. I do care for you as well and as long as i can stay close to you then that is fine" He looks around once they were inside, his eyes glowed yellow slightly as he touches a bit of stone, quickly examining the stone for stress fractures and to see where the most work was needed first.
As she mentions the tower he nods. "Yes dont worry, i know that tower, i can still sense the energy from it and wouldnt have gone in anyway unless you specifically asked me too. Memories and things best left sealed away for now" He wasnt that worried about any physical traps from it though ones strictly magical might have unintended effects on him.
He shakes his head and looks to Monet "Anyway, its a good thing you asked me to help, there are several stress fractures that left untreated would cause serious damage next time a quake happened. I'll tend to those first then i'll begin with the cosmetic repairs of repairing the walls and any fallen sections."

A sigh of relief was barely audible from her when he explained he found and would repair stress fractures in the building. It was something she wouldn't have been able to find on her own. Building wasn't her strong point, in fact... she was quite inadequate with it. One reason most places she took residency in were already built. It was fortunate she had Clay around now. "Thank you," she reminded herself to say before moving on.
Anytime she came across a non-magical artifact that fell and shattered, she gathered it back up with restorative shadow magic, the black like ichor of the shadows acting like a glue before sizzling away to be unseen. Having been distracted, she didn't notice when she happened upon and restored a mirror on the wall.
Her body slowly came to a halt before it, reaching out her fingers to press against the glass while she stared at her reflection. Shadows began to pass within the mirror, taking on shapes and then fading away like dust blowing in the wind. How long she had been standing there was unknown to her, because only when she saw the trickle of blood going down her arm and then the burning pain of glass in her hand had she realized she punched and shattered the mirror. Wincing, she backed away from the glass on the floor and went the opposite direction of where it was while pulling shards out of her skin.
Mirrors always terrorized her. During the times when she had sacrificed innocent people in order to restore her beauty, she'd stare at herself for hours obsessively. Then, slowly the corrupted form of her flesh would begin to return right before her eyes and she could no longer look at any surface that reflected her monstrous form. Those days were long behind her, yet the curse seemed to remain in her memories and haunted her with illusions of herself becoming like that again.
When composed again, she started to adjust and right knocked over furniture manually. Sweat poured down her face, so she wiped at it to keep it from her eyes.

Clay set to work repairing the stone around the mansion, working on setting the fractures and re shifting the stone so the weight would be more evenly balanced to prevent their return. He then moved down and resettled the foundation as well taking stone away from some spots and adding it to others to reaffirm the placement after the earth below had shifted from the quake. Once that was done he began going about the mansion repairing any cracked ceilings or any that might have crumbled.
It wasnt long before he found the mirror and the blood that was still fresh on it and the floor. He looked at it for a moment and her monet in a room close by moving this around. He looks back to the mirror again then repairs it with a goal in mind. His skills in enchanting were not as strong as his other siblings but he could still perform some. The current enchantment he placed on the mirror was a 'reflection of others sight' It would show the one who looked into it how the enchanter saw that person. For all her darkness clay saw monet like a normal person, not a vargo, not a former queen of the lands, simply monet and he thought she was gorgeous.
He covers the mirror with a sheet then writes a not and sets it on the small table next to the mirror with her name written on the front. Inside it read "I know you dont like mirrors, but i made this one special. It shows your reflection as i see you. I hope it helps, feel free to smack me upside the head if it doesnt" He looks back to the room he heard her in then walks off to continue his repairs.

It didn't take much time for her to come around to that hall again when she noticed the glass wasn't on the floor anymore. She'd been paying attention to avoid looking into them directly. So naturally since things were different, she investigated by looking around more and found the note. Picking it up, she frowned deeply and sighed. "Clay..."
Putting it down, she reached up quickly to yank away the sheet, but found herself pausing before she actually removed it, hand shaking. 'Get it together' she scolded herself, and then slowly pulled it down to reveal the repaired mirror.
Inside, her reflection was strange to her. The purple streaks in her hair were there, but she noticed she wasn't really focused on them. Her lavender eyes didn't look quite so tired and dead. Her scars were prominent and yet they didn't upset her. She even looked a little younger, like the years of wear didn't exist to age her.
Before she even felt the warmth on her face she knew she was crying. Never did she look at herself in this way, even if others might. It was humbling. Carefully, she put the sheet back over the mirror and rested her hand against the fabric while she got composed again. A few deep breaths later, she whispered 'thank you.'

Clay walked up behind her and rubbed her shoulders a bit "I figured, you just see the creature normally so, why not let you see the woman that i see all the time." He kisses the back of her head then hugged her "Though if i dont know the person at all they'll simply see nothing when they look into it" He shakes his head and continues the hug for a minute "Anyway, the foundation has been resettled and ive fixed all the stonework. Anything needing manual repairs?"

"It is mostly memory haunting me now. This body is not the one I was born with, thanks to grandmother." She didn't go into that any further, because he knew the history.
"Let's just explore for a while and see what we can find, while I wait for the others to arrive. If they come."
She almost felt regret for the times she had dug her hands into Clay's flesh to fondle his organs, now that she'd seen of her what he saw. ...almost.

Clay nods "That feeling i know as well though it is a far distant memory. I cant even recall what i looked like before Pen asked me to be a Guardian. All i can remember is i was a Blonde, not a brunette." He looks to her "Yes, lets start an the entrance and work our way back. That way if anyone suddenly shows up the parts they are likely to see will be all set"
He never once minded her rumaging around his insides, he knew at the time it helped her and made her feel more at ease. He hasnt regretted letting her do anything with him as long as it helped her.

"Good thinking," she stated and stared at him a long moment trying to imagine him with the different hair color. Eventually she shrugged her shoulders and moved along to pick up things that had fallen off tables, straight pictures that hung oddly on the walls, and even took a few moments to dust sometimes. Dusting in Carrion was pointless though, as the condition of the land and the accumulation of books and dead things just had the dust settled once more the next day.

Time has passed by, it seemed, in a blink of an eye. How long has it been since she lost Mordred? She lost track. She was used to people leaving her or dying on her now....which is a sad truth. Sure she found love again, but there will be no possible way to fill the void that Mordred left. Every so often she would go by Blackthorn, to gaze at its exterior and reminiscence about old times of her previous endevours.
She knew the majority of his family, Monet and Laelia, to name a few...absolutely loathed her. And they had the right. If it wasn't for her to show him the way into Hell....he would still be here. If only they didn't meet....of only.....

Monet felt a familiar magic nearby and narrowed her eyes in that direction. Stopping the progress of her work, she moved over to a window that looked over the front of the property only to see Amika below. She rested her arm on the window seal, and cupped her face in her hand.
"What brings the little demoness who stole away my brother and then lead him to his death here? I'd like to say its a pleasure Amika, but I am sure you would know I'm lying." Even though her words were cold, her tone was actually almost bored sounding. The harsh winds of the dead lands whipped her hair this way and that as she watched the woman below.

The wind rustled. Called to her. Opening up her eyes, she glanced upwards. There Monet stood. She knew she saw her as she saw her. She smiled softly hearing her words. They held the bite she expected but also something else. A soft tilt of her head as she regarded the woman.
"I know....Just reliving memories I suppose." she shrugged softly to her. "I see you're as beautiful as always, Monet." she spoke to her softly. Neither condensending or even with venom or remorse. Just a lovely tone of voice as if she was a friend greeting a lost friend after many a years.

Monet regarded the words for a moment, before spitting off the side of the window in a sign of disrespect.
"At least someone can have good memories of that time. From the moment you entered my life, everything turned to shit." Her teeth pressed painfully together as she held back more she might have said. It was pointless to waste her breath on the past now. Besides, not -everything- after that time was bad. Laelia had a son now, and Monet was able to meet Clay. None of them were wrapped up in playing good do'er to the people anymore either. Still... Mordred was gone, and with him, a part of herself.
"Plan to stay long? If so, at least be useful and clean up some."

Watched as the drop of spit landed by her boot. She regarded it for a moment before looking back up to her. Her tail moving about softly. "I didn't say the memories was fond. At least I was there for his final moments and at least tried to correct my mistake." she shrugged then smiled "Are you sure you want to hire me? Remember the last time I was hired here?" she smiled to her.

Amrite had spent most of her time in her own secluded section of the Carrion Lands, her daughters with her. The earthquakes had damaged where she was and in a moment of rare clarity (especially after Daemonicus disappeared) Amrite decided that she probably needed to go check out the rest of the lands.
Maybe.
Reluctantly she ventured out. The presense of Monet in the other side of the lands was soothing, but all it took was one whiff of Amika's scent to send Amrite into a somewhat calmed frenzy. Amrite took off towards where Monet was and found her being harassed. Amrite raised an eyebrow, cleared her throat and didn't bother with politeness. "Care to explain to me why on Earth why you are here? What is your purpose? Other than to rub salt in wounds and be a general menace to society or at least those of Vargo blood?"
