Protea Kyanite was a woman from an odd origin. No one living could even find recorded record of her family, her history, or her birth. She was successful at being secretive in her life, coming and going as needed and only making connections with people who could benefit her in some way. Older and wiser now, with a solid gold pouch to her name, she was seeking out other things.
The land was in a state of chaos right now. Stories and rumors were everywhere, and you couldn't sit in Wendy's Tavern without hearing at least a small piece of information that could be to your favor. Sipping her wine, her sensitive hearing honed in on others in the room to listen closer. A blue brow lifted at the news she heard and she set her barely drank wine down on the table with some coin before getting up and leaving the tavern without a word.
Back at her cottage, humble in size but with hints in the decor of her wealth, she threw some logs on the fire in her hearth and stirred the brew inside that had been cooking for one full month now. No, it wasn't a slowly cooking meal she'd savor for dinner later. It was a potion. A potent one that she had been working on for two months now. The first month she screwed up the steps and had to start over. This time... she would have it right. Just a little longer to go.
Once finished tending the brew, she moved back over to her desk, picked up a book she was almost done with, and opened it up at the ribbon she'd placed as a bookmark. Protea sat down in her chair and let out a long sigh as the weariness of the day started to ease from her body. Now it was time to relax.

Her coral toned eyes fluttered opened; she'd fallen asleep reading her book. Stretching and looking at the window she could tell night had come. With the lack of noise and street torches, it was probably around midnight too. That meant it was time.
Rising, she put the book the table and stepped over to the brew in the pot. The embers were glowing since the fire had died out while she slept. The brew was still steaming, but no longer boiled. Grabbing a towel she reached in and took the pot by the handle with both hands, carefully carrying it out of the hearth and onto its stand on the floor. She managed to not spill it.
Leaning over she inhaled the aroma deeply. It smelled like smoked almonds. Stirring the liquid with her large wooden spoon, she lifted it and blew on it before taking a mouthful. Grimacing, it tasted terrible... like a piece of charred bark covered in honey. Swallowing with immense effort, she put the spoon back down and waited for the surface to settle.
Finally the magic began to work its way through her body, tingling at each limb. When the effect took hold, she knew if one was looking at her that the coral tone in her eyes was glowing. As she stared down into the still brew of the cauldron, a unique swirl began to appear. It was as if the brew was separating its contents. The shape almost reminded her of the Ying Yang symbol. One side bubbled and she suspected would be thick like tar to touch. The other side was so clear that she could see the bottom of the pot, rippling slightly like when a leaf touched the surface of lake water.
She took the wooden spoon and attempted to mix the two sides together. When she did so, it began to swirl in the center like a whirlpool. The two mixtures refused to blend and instead warred with one another at the center around her spoon. Lifting the spoon out, she looked at it curiously.
"Interesting. What a peculiar vision... I suspect I understand the meaning. Now to figure out how to act." She waved her hand and a ball of white flame appeared, before she threw it down into the cauldron and the contents inside burned away into nothing but mist before it was gone. She walked back to her chair and sat down, thinking on what she'd just been shown. Her hand reached for her book as she opened it back up. On the cover of the book was the title 'History of Tyran Royalty.'

A letter had been written and sent to the current Queen, Sapphire Vargo. Protea made sure to do all the proper things in order to let the letter arrive. It spoke of the desire of a meeting to discuss the state of the Capital. If she got a letter back with approval for the meeting, she would prepare her travel bag and leave the outskirts of the city where she lived and make her way to the castle.

Ever since the war, Sapphire hadn't done much of anything. Especially when it came to protecting the crown. No one was trying to take her off the throne, but Sapphire half wanted someone to take all the work off her hands. She did this for Monet and Mordred... but now? Now Sapphire wasn't sure where any of her family went.
One of the servants entered the throne room with a letter in hand. Everyone, in fear of the twin's return, treated Sapphire with respect despite her current mood.
"My lady," he said with a bow of his head. Sapphire carefully took the letter, read it over, and pondered. Fingers lifted the crown from the top of her head, carefully gazing over it. Was this person friend or foe?
"Send a letter back. Welcome our guest to Blackthorn Keep..."

She arrived at Blackthorn Keep and looked up at the impressive structure. There was a certain beauty to it despite its bloody history. People bustled to and fro around her for a variety of reasons from guards to tradesmen. A hood covered most of her head which drew some eyes her way, but she made sure her face was shown so to not be suspicious. Primarily she wanted her blue hair and ears covered. Her silver skin often just got looked at as a sickly pale in most lights and from afar her coral eyes looked hazel.
Waiting patiently at the spot designated, a guard soon approached and asked for her identification. She handed over the sealed letter of admittance which the guard looked at carefully before nodding.
"This way Miss." he spoke and started to lead her to the main entrance of Blackthorn Keep.
She used this opportunity to scout out the area, figuring out where guards were stationed at this hour and which areas had entrances and exits. Then they were inside. A while later she was lead into a room she assumed was the area the Queen took complaints from the people. She waited to be announced, and then entered and lowered to one knee with her arm over her heart in a sign of respect. Not entirely customary for a woman to bow in such a way, but it was what she preferred.
"Queen Sapphire Vargo, a pleasure to meet you in person. I have read much about you and Blackthorn." Her face was composed and polite, no indication if she was trying to hint at some threat or if she was just being polite of her knowledge. She waited until the Queen addressed her before she would rise again and look to her.
"I come to speak of political matters, and the welfare of the Capital, if you are willing to hear out my humble opinions of your kingdom your Majesty."

Whatever past stories the woman might have heard about Sapphire had changed. She was once a lovely and happy child, but the state of her family changed her into something much darker. Her magic, of course, still closer to the light. Perhaps it was where Sapphire truly belonged? Away from the world? She didn't really focus on that as the stranger stood before her.
"Opinions?" She arched a brow but after a moment of silence, she gave a nod of her head. It was the first time that someone came to voice their opinion since the war. "Let's hear them."
She gestured towards a small table with two chairs. Sapphire got up from the throne and walked over to the table. "Please don't feel the need to be formal with me. This title was given to me, but I don't feel like a queen anymore."

Protea felt thankful that the Queen so easily allowed her to share her opinions. From what she'd read of this Queen, it could have gone a few different ways (and still could.) Despite the Queen offering less formality, Protea still allowed her to be seated first before taking her own. Less formality didn't mean there didn't have to be manners still.
"Thank you your majesty. I have lived on the outskirts of the Capital since I was..." she made an awkward pause here as she tried to share the right words. Born wouldn't be right. Existed was too awkward. "a child." Yes, that would do for now.
"I haven't paid too close attention to the political nature of the Capital all my life, but in recent years I at least listened to the gossip and read the latest news in scrolls on the tavern walls. Naturally a lot of what I heard or read was probably incorrect or rumors. Some of it, well..." she gave Sapphire a sad smile, "I saw with my own eyes. We all did."
"The point I'd like to get to however, is that I get the feeling from the history I read, as well as some of that hearsay information, that you weren't and perhaps still aren't very happy as Queen. It was a title taken out of necessity for protection or survival, if not of yourself then of your family. I do have some experience, and well... I've also seen a prophecy. Not that I can prove that of course. I shall tell you of the prophecy though, and if things come to pass the way I've seen they will... perhaps you shall consider my offer. I offer to accept the position of Queen in your place, should you feel the need to relinquish it."
She waited a moment to see if there was a change of expression or an outburst before she'd continue, lowering her voice so that only the Queen may hear the next part.
"The prophecy I've been shown, was that the current regime of Gods are about to fall. I do not know the specifics, but I've been shown a great chaotic clash of power... which will boil down to a time of old, where only two will remain, and be opposites of one another. The need for a strong presence in the mortal world is going to be necessary... an army perhaps, maybe the King or Queen themselves. If there is not, then the two remaining Gods may go out of control try to grow their power. Even Gods sometimes need reminded of the need and necessity of mortals, and a balance in the world."
She grew quiet and leaned back to show that she was finished, letting the Queen ask questions if she felt the need to. Protea had said a lot in a little amount of time, but it seemed time was not on their side... as most had already noticed an abnormality in some of the existing temples. Delaying this information any longer could only lead to more problems down the line.

A single finger tapped against the marble top of the table as she listened to Protea. Her expression remained neutral despite having to agree with everything that the woman said. For some strange reason, there was an aura about the woman that had Sapphire trusting every word she said.
"You wish to take the crown? Well... That's the first time someone has ever come in and asked for it." She laughed darkly as she reached for the crown to place it on the table between them. The ebony crown looked as if it didn't belong to her, but someone much more powerful.
"I failed as a queen and as a sister. To continue to sit here as a ruler.... well, that just means I am losing time with Monet and Mordred. I.... I should have never..." She frowned. Why was she telling this woman all of it? Was it because she had a vision that seemed to be true?
"You're right. I do not want this burden. Mordred thought it was his right to take this power and place it on our family, but the Vargo line wasn't meant to be in the light like this. He was wrong. Then there was the woman before him who thought it was her birthright too.... Tyran deserves something better. My magic tells me that you were born for this sole purpose. To lead and protect."
Violet hues watched the woman before her carefully before pushing the ebony crown towards her. "It is yours. I suggest you have a summons to announce that you've taken over the throne. People should know who you are..."

Interesting. Any normal Queen would have put up much more of a fight, or even be insulted by someone who just comes along and asks them to step down. It seemed this woman really didn't want this burden anymore... like she'd just been waiting for a chance exactly like this one to come. It almost felt too easy, and in that way, she felt a deep sadness for her. What all had she lived through that would make her long for freedom again so strongly?
Looking at the ebony crown a long moment, she shook her head. "I cannot take it like this. No... at the very least I must offer you something in return. You say you wish more time with your family again. Perhaps there is some way I can accommodate this? A way to provide you with that which you long for? I do have some means I could use to attempt such a thing. Or, if this is not what you want... name your price. Anything your heart desires, if I can provide it, I shall. And I insist you do not answer with not wanting anything. If you choose that as your answer, I will not take the crown."
Such an odd ultimatum. Sapphire Vargo had to have ask for something she wanted in order to give up the crown. Wouldn't this normally be the other way around? Then again, Tyran was anything but normal. Protea leaned back in her seat as she allowed Sapphire all the time she desired to think on it.

Although it was true that Sapphire really didn't want the crown, there was something about this woman that had Sapphire believing and trusting her. Besides, Sapphire assumed she was the worst queen to ever take the crown. At least her siblings did something.
"Can you do magic? My aunt once built me a cottage in the Carrion lands. I wish to expand its magic illusion of a beautiful valley and house where I can live with whatever family I have left in peace. The Vargos deserve that."
She eyed the woman carefully "and I want you to promise me that you will rule as a just queen... Help make Tyran something better than what it already is. Fix my mistakes... I once tried to make a council for all those who rules provinces and cities in Tyran. A round table of sorts. Reach out to Laelia Kaliba." She died off, clearly not so foolish to just give over the crown without demands.
"Those are my demands."

Protea listened carefully to what the current Queen had for demands. She smiled, glad that the woman at least wanted something. The demands were very interesting and when she asked if Protea had magic, she nodded once and continued to listen.
"If I obey the prophecy that has been shown to me, you should have no worries that I will do my best to rule the Capital in a way that helps bring prosperity. Kaliba you say? I've heard of the woman, but never met her. I'll be sure to reach out once I get my court built up. As for fixing your mistakes, I can assure you that there are mistakes with every regime. You may have not been the most influencial Queen Tyran has had... but you were stable. That is one of the most important things a Kingdom needs. The people need to know who is in charge and who to turn to when things get dire. So put your mind at ease, Queen Sapphire... you did as best you could, with what you had."
Before she reached for the crown that had been offered to her, Protea closed her eyes and put her hands together as she concentrated. If her eyes had been open, Sapphire would have seen the coral color glow. The magical aura about her blew back her hood to reveal the mass of blue hair and pointed ears. It would take some time, but soon the aura around Protea would start to bleed down and concentrate in a sphere within her hands. When it was over, there would be what looked like a glass sphere with multi-toned blue cloudy swirls inside of it. She reached down and set it next to the crown.
"Take this sphere, and smash it in this area you speak of with your cottage. The magic will bleed out as far as you will it to, and obey your wish. When you've finished with the magic, its important that you say the words, "So mote it be." This will finalize the spell and make it permanent. If you forget to do that... well, the magic can start to grow out of control and possibly destroy everything its touching."
She picked up the crown finally. "I agree to your demands, and I accept your surrender of the crown to my name. Thank you for the time you served, and may you find peace finally in the place you call home, with those you call family." The crown was gently placed on her head, this way the guards in the room could see the exchange and know what was occurring.
"Please make a public announcement of this arrangement with me, so that the people know this was a legal and consensual exchange of power. We don't want an uprising afterall."
Thus, Queen Protea Kyanite began her rule as the new Queen of the Tyran Capital.

The Deal with Evil Protea-Today at 7:56 AMstill had so much to do and Sapphire's abrupt departure didn't help... but she couldn't blame the girl. Protea was Queen now, and no matter the difficulty it was her job to prove she could handle this. As she sipped her morning tea and read over her list of important things to get done before coronation, she lingered on the one she was most weary of. 'Deal with the devil' she'd written. Yes, the prophecy... she had that to contend with too. Somehow, she was a key piece to the protection of this Capital now, or else the new gods influence would destroy it. At least that's how she was perceiving the prophecy. Fickle things those visions, you couldn't always be certain. "Might as well get it over with," she mumbled to herself and excused the guards. They protested heavily, "That's an order." Begrudgingly they left the dining room. Now it was just her.
Rising from her chair she moved over to the fireplace and kneeled before it. "New Evil God of this Realm, I humbly request to be in your presence. I wish to make a deal." She slipped off one of her expensive rings and cast it into the fire as an offering. Tyr-Today at 8:07 AMTyrs hand raised in the new gauntlet he wore demonsteel he wore a helmet now as well his red eyes glowed from behind the grill of the helmet his breathing rasping from the confines he brought his fist down beating the creature under him whatever it was, one could not tell anymore it was mush a mess of red and death. This had been a Man, one whome disobeyed him and now he was decoration for the hall. He stood up with easy turnning when he felt a tug, someone was making him an Offering. Off he Went across the Land the light in the sky Dimmed the Clouds Formed covering her castle in a EErie Darkness, the shadows grew longer grasping at the gaurds inside, the Dead Rolled in there graves the wind picked up sounds of the damned filled the air fear was etched into every being in this Castle. The Fire in he fireplace flared greedily and he was there in the room with her. When he spoke "What does the Welp of Tyran want from me". Protea-Today at 8:17 AMrecoiled away from the flames when they suddenly roared up, the ends of her hair became singed. As she turned, the God was there before her and she felt herself tremble instinctively. "This was a bad idea, run away while you can" she thought to herself, but she had a duty now even at the cost of her life and she swallowed the lump in her throat as she fought down the terror. Standing with the best composure she could now to appear confident, even though she new the God could see right through the facade, she bowed her head.
"Thank you for your time, mighty god of evil. Though titles in this world would mean nothing to you, for I am a humble welp as you say under your power, I must introduce myself as Queen Protea of the Tyran Capital. I understand fully that my title only holds power over the mortals here and even then only the ones who recognize my station." she was rambling... she reminded herself to not lose his attention. "As Queen it is my duty to protect my realm. I've summoned you to make a deal for such a thing. Its my hope that I can have something to offer you, other than my life, that in exchange could spare my realm from your wrath and influences."
She could have offered him a seat at the table, or more gifts to appease him. Yet she had a suspicion that his time was more precious, which is why she had gotten immediately to business. She hoped in this way she didn't cause him offense... Protea knew little to nothing of Gods. Tyr-Today at 8:26 AMhe studied the room curtly as he talked twisting his head around to take a look about no guards she was bold very bold he would give her his ear then. "You wish to make a deal with evil". He stepped forward and held out his hand a Table and Chairs Appeared he sat at the table "Usually I deal in Souls Queen Protea" He rapped his fingers across the table and an Imp Appeared he wore glasses had a quill and Parchment "But I knew this day was to come So I've made a few requests of my own". His Gaze went to the other chair all she had to do was sit.
When she did he would begin "First the Royal Armies of the Capital Do not Solely Consist of Kaliba and Vargo Forces, You may Pull some from my Temple as well as The Temple of Light, The Clans and Those who Enlist" He paused to let her catch up "Second, I will appoint an Emmisary here to sleep and stay in this castle, he will be my voice in the Capital and for you to lay your Greivances too". He paused He had one more Term "Leading the Forces You must have three Governing members, One From The three Largest Houses, Clans or Families in Tyran, this will insure a Fair Distribution of Power". The Imp handed her a Scroll with his terms written in a Black Cursive for her to read over again and again. He had nothing but time. Protea-Today at 8:34 AMsat down with a bow of her head in thanks for the consideration of royal etiquette. She was impressed, having expected something different of him. Then again... well, he was evil. He could portray whatever he wanted to appeal to her if he chose. Her eyes looked over the scroll, carefully making sure there was no fine print or tricks.
"So you wish me to expand my army to include most surrounding provinces. You wish to have an emmisary here to speak for you. Finally, you want me to have a council of sorts who represent three of the most influencial houses? Do I understand this correctly? And in exchange, you and your followers will spare the Capital of any devasting actions such as war, disease, and similar which would destroy my realm?" Tyr-Today at 8:40 AMTyr nodded his head Simply these were his demands "Yes Let me be clear Protea this lands Consists of Many Families Clans and Individuals, some it seems are given power more so then others, I intend to Level that Playing Feild, For Instanc I recently Sent Forces against the Sef Clan, Sure you've heard of them" He paused "I ripped there castle from the Sky because that kind of power no Individual Should have, however my means may be seen as Extreme I will consistenly keep this Balance through Acts of Evil, If say one Province is to Bountifull I may drop a Plague or Wreck there crops, throw in a Natural Disaster, reap the benefits to my temple because I can and Balance is Kept".
He sighed some "In this sense many will die, I cannot chose who, MOthers Children Fathers but the world has a Balance to it that must be kept and I've Every Intention of Restoring it". His Eyes Bore into her intenstly "Right now the World Leans to favorably in certain directions and this cannot be allowed the contract now, will only be sated if the terms are met if your influences are not led by Three House Nobles then the Capital would not see my protection". he ran his hand across the table gently "I offer a Grace Period Because life is cruel one of them might die and need replacing but then you have your duties". Protea-Today at 8:47 AMsat for a long time and thought on scenarios in her mind. As if he'd read her mind, he added in the part about the grace period and she nodded. "I understand. Just as you explain that you have your duty to keep balance... I have my duty to protect my realm, The Capital. If this is what you demand in order for us to be spared of your direct influences on my realm, then I feel these are very fair terms. Before I sign this contract however, I want to be clear that I intend to also have a meeting with the Light Goddess and make a deal with her too. Will this be a problem for you? If so, how can I ease your ire to complete the deal knowing I shall still meet with her?"
Tyr-Today at 10:45 AMhe nodded his head simply at her request "Yes that is fine, I assumed you would let my Emmisary known if there are any conflicts of Interest". He snapped his fingers and a Cloaked Figure Appeared he lowered his head his heavily tattooed face and Red Ringed eyes gave him a most sinister Appearance, he smiled though revealing pointed teeth, clearly human this change in his bone structure would have been self Inflicted however when he spoke it did nothing really to hamper his voice, his tongue alluring and tantalizing like there were power to his very word
"Greetings Queen Protea I'm Damarius". He held out a hand for her to shake just like his face his arm was also covered in inked marks. "I assure you for now I will stay in the Tavern until Proper accommodations can be fulfilled". If her hand was put in his he would simply kiss it and let it go.
Tyr watched for a moment at there first ever exchange "He is a Warlock, Works with Demons, May wish to discuss the rules on his Companions". Tyr rose from his seat "Enjoy the table and chairs they are a gift Obsidian" With his words he was gone leaving her there with Damarius who simply glanced at her with a blank stare. Protea-Today at 10:49 AMbowed her head to the empty space where the God had just been. She signed the parchment, and then handed it to Damarius. "A warlock? I do not believe I've had the pleasure of meeting one before. Is there anything I need to worry about, that you do? I'd like to avoid too much conflict in my court... and demons or undead walking about freely might give the wrong impression."

-Alliance with the Tyran Army- Protea-Today at 4:19 PMafter her meeting with Tyr needed to quickly start doing her tasks. This included the demands that Sapphire had put upon her as a condition for the crown. Laelia Kaliba had been sent a summons to appear at Blackthorn Keep to meet the new Queen at her soonest convenience. It was time for Protea to meet this Commander everyone spoke of.
The receiving room was setup for her guest, ready to provide drinks and snacks, as well as parchments and ink for any possible contracts or agreements between the two. Laelia Kaliba was the Commander of the Tyran Army, and as such it was important for Protea to understand the woman's plans for the Capital with her mighty army. Laelia Kaliba-Today at 4:31 PMLaelia had been wondering when she'd receive the invite to meet the new Queen. Surprisingly once Laelia had heard the transfer had been amicable, that Sapphire had willingly abdicated in favour of this Protea, she hadn't been that bothered about it. It wasn't such a bad thing to have the throne finally out of Vargo hands. Not in the slightest.
However, that now meant a new dynamic had to be built. Laelia had been allied with the Vargos for some time and they knew of her competence. She had also known how to...appeal to them. For the most part. Her guidance had been respected and considered. Now it would remain to be seen how this new Queen would interact with her.
Queen Protea had taken up residence at Blackthorne Keep. That rubbed Laelia the wrong way for a number of reasons that she would currently keep to herself. The gold and white figure of a griffon circled widely about the keep before coming to land a short distance away from the main gate. Terryn pranced proudly to the ground and hunkered down for Laelia to dismount.
Loyal Terryn would stay just where he was while Laelia saw to her business inside. She approached the main gate, extending the summons toward the guard. It was entirely possible the guard knew her. "I've been summoned." Laelia said. "To meet with the Queen." Protea-Today at 4:36 PMgot word that the Commander had arrived and she nodded, passing along the permission to allow entrance to her. She would be escorted (not that she needed guidance) to the receiving room where the Queen waited. "You're excused," she said to the guards and most servants. Only a single guard and servant remained behind. She turned to the woman and bowed her head slightly to her. "Greetings Commander Laelia Kaliba. I am Queen Protea Serenity, newly appointed to govern over the Tyran Capital surrendered by Sapphire Vargo. The previous Queen gave me instruction to meet with you for the good of the Capital. Please, have a seat and let us discuss business shall we?"
She waited for the woman's response before she would take her seat at one end of the table.
"Please help yourself to any food and drink provided. If it concerns you, I'll willingly try anything you consume first so you know it is safe." Laelia Kaliba-Today at 4:50 PMIt was true, Laelia didn't need guidance to find the room. She knew Blackthorn well, and moved with a purposeful stride that betrayed her knowledge of her surroundings. She entered the room, only seeming mildly interested in the new decor before the new Queen introduced herself.
Laelia wore well-fitted field plate, lovingly polished to a shine. An officer's jacket of black with brushed platinum buttons and buckles draped unbuttoned to her knees. Though it seemed rathe heavy for a hot summer day, there was not so much as a single bead of sweat beading on her skin. As always, Starscale was belted at her left hip. At the Queen's invitation, Laelia removed her helm and shook out her pale hair which was plaited down her back. Ice blue eyes betrayed little emotion as they regarded Protea.
She did not bow, but nodded her head respectfully. "Well met, Queen Protea." She said with cool professionalism as she tucked her helm beneath her arm. As she settled herself, she set the helm down by her feet.
"I'm not concerned." She said, accepting a glass of cool cider to quench her thirst. "Thank you." Protea-Today at 4:56 PMnoted the body language and gaze, as well as the absence of a bow in her presence. She was bold to defy court standards, and while Protea felt a tinge of insult by it, she also knew that the woman was here for business, so all the extra 'court manners' really would have wasted time.
"Thank you for coming," she said. A long moment of awkward silence followed. She had been waiting for the Commander to take lead on the conversation but it didn't happen so Protea was forced to.
"I have been informed of your standing and the existence and purpose of your army. I will not presume to think that in any way I can take command of you and yours. I do however expect a fair and reasonable agreement between us that benefits this realm and its people. Do you disagree?" Laelia Kaliba-Today at 5:07 PMLaelia didn't intend to lay her cards out upon the table immediately. Protea had summoned her, not the other way around. It was only wise to discover what the Queen intended before revealing her own agenda. If Protea payed attention to murmurs, she may have heard that the General of Tyran's Army wasn't one for fancy bows or flowery words. Laelia was functional, and down to task. She also had never prostrated herself before a monarch. There was only one man she bowed to. And he was dead.
She sipped at her cider, thrumming her fingers against the surface of the table before shaking her head. "No, I don't disagree. I am, after all, a servant of Tyran, and the military exists for the protection of all its people. The Capital, yes. But also everywhere else. And to that end, I am not beholden to one ruler." She shook her head. "Besides. The Capital has seen more than its fair share of rulers come and go. From Raelle Deleon, to Mordred, Monet, and Sapphire Vargo. And in one way or another, each of them failed. And yet...I remain." There was no ego in her tone, only cold simple fact. While others had stepped down, ran away or lost battles they could not hope to win, Laelia had remained as a constant to protect Tyran, closely tied with whoever took the throne next.
"Tyran's welfare is my priority."
Protea-Today at 5:17 PMsmiled just slightly as the Commander before her humbled her with history. It seemed this woman had seen quite a lot, and it wasn't going to be easy to gain her trust. Trust was a luxury though, it seemed at least that the two of them had the same goal... that was all that mattered.
Perhaps to her surprise, Protea rose from her seat and kneeled down before the Commander, putting her hand over her heart. "Though I have been given the title of Queen, my experience and wisdom is nothing compared to yours. I have taken this position due to prophecy. As I understand it, there needs to be a mortal to stand between the two new Gods in order to keep balance. I know it seems obsurd that any mortal could stand against Gods. However, its my belief that my effort will help encourage peace for the Capital as long as I reign. I assure you I am not here out of vanity or desire of riches. I've lived in this Capital all my life and I love it to my core. Please, give me a chance to prove to you that I can do this job. If I can have your support, I believe we can benefit each other immensely."
She then rose, and took her seat once more as she folded her hands in front of her. "Though my station is above yours by title, you may consider me someone willing to listen to you and learn from your experience Commander. Help me to become a great Queen. I'm here to offer you my support in exchange for yours. To hear your conditions and concerns." Laelia Kaliba-Today at 5:29 PMHer lips pursed as the Queen sank to her knees in front of Laelia. She truly hadn't been expecting a gesture like that. Perhaps she felt a twinge of humility in return to have this young Queen express her inexperience and desire to learn. Wanting support and offering it in return. Had Protea come at her with demands for respect or commands for action, Laelia would have reacted very differently. Instead, she felt a measure of warmth, perhaps even protectiveness towards this young woman who had expressed herself honestly and without pretense.
Laelia relaxed visibly. That wasn't to say she trusted Protea yet. But this was something she could work with. The corner of her mouth lifted in a very faint smile while a pale brow arched. "You would be surprised to know how many ways there are for a mortal to stand against a god. If you take a good look at history...you'll see it happens all the time. It has to."
"I'll give you your chance. The best chance I possibly can. Tyran needs stability amongst the chaos. If you can offer that, you'll have all the support I can muster and all the advice I can provide." Protea-Today at 5:36 PMsighed out loud in relief. Finally she lifted her glass of red wine and took a long sip from it. When she set it down she nodded, more to her own thoughts than the Commander's words. "It gives me a great measure of relief to hear that. Thank you."
Protea unrolled a scroll that had an agreement on it to provide finances to the Tyran Army from the Queen's treasury. There was a blank area for add to during their talk. She pushed it forward toward Laelia to read over.
"May I ask, what nations and houses serve within your army? I have made an agreement with another that I will provide to the army a chance for more to serve. In that way, it was my hope that could be left to you Commander. I have no experience with soldiers afterall. I must also form a council, lead by at least three of the ruling houses in the land to help me rule, so that all people are properly represented. Do either of these things go against the way you govern your army? I'd love to hear more about it if you'd permit it." Laelia Kaliba-Today at 5:43 PMExtending her hand, she pulled the parchment towards her, reading it over. "New Arisalon and the Capital contribute currently. There are also independent recruits. I intend to seek out further support by asking for contributions from other houses and nations to bolster our numbers. The Army serves us all, after all. Everyone should contribute." She fell silent for a moment, thinking. "It was my father's vision that Tyran have a council to assist in its governance. It was something he and others worked extensively towards before..." Her words trailed off and she glanced away, not finishing her sentence.
"So no...neither of those things affect the way I lead. Provided those who contribute don't attempt to curry more than their own fair share of favour." Protea-Today at 5:52 PMnodded. "Then I officially ask for an alliance with your forces. In exchange, I will provide my word and finances behind your troops. Should I feel that the Capital is in danger, I will call upon your aid and hope that you stand by your word to provide for us. I almost feel silly for asking such a thing, since that is already what you do. Its just something I have to do officially. People like contracts and proof of words afterall. Is this agreeable for you? If so, please sign on the parchment, and I will sign as well. My scribe will provide you a copy of course for proof of the alliance." Laelia Kaliba-Today at 5:56 PMLaelia nodded slowly. "In addition, I want to post a military liason here at Blackthorn at all times. In the interest of quick and open communication. I trust this will be acceptable to you? I realize that this is your home now and I do not have the same privileges to come and go as I please. But to have a liason here would be very helpful to ensure we remain in contact. If you wish a similar liason to be stationed with the army, I am ammenable to that."
Once the appropriate additions were made, Laelia would sign and then turn the parchment about to face Protea. Protea-Today at 6:00 PMnodded in agreement as well, "I think that is a good idea. I'd be happy to station someone here to keep us in contact. Once I have gathered my court together, I will assign someone to you as well. I apologize that I have no one capable at the moment for it. I'm... quite limited right now in staffing. Most retired with the previous Queen. I do not blame them... I am a stranger still and must earn the trust of the people." she signed the parchment and handed it to her servant 'Thing' who took it to the scribe. A few minutes later she returned with two scrolls and Protea took them back. One was set on the table before the Commander. "Thank you for your time, and for giving me a chance to prove to you that I'll be a just ruler." Laelia Kaliba-Today at 6:05 PMShe accepted her copy of the agreement and tucked it inside of her jacket. "If you work hard and are fair, you will earn their trust." Laelia said reassuringly. "I'm glad we were able to come to an understanding. If you have need of my counsel, send for me. I've spent a great deal of time among rulers and monarchs. I'm happy to provide my opinions."
Laelia stood then and nodded her head to Protea after finishing off her cider. "It was a pleasure to meet you, Majesty. I am sure we will see each other again soon." And then she would turn and exit the room. Protea-Today at 6:08 PMrose along with the Commander and nodded in return. "Thank you for your advice and the offering of your counsel."
As the Commander left, she turned and handed her servant the parchment to be put in the secure vault where it would be properly guarded along with the prior Queen's crown and the small treasury she was building from the people's taxes.
She settled down into her seat and lifted the wine to take a long sip from it, nearly emptying the glass now. "Two down, two tasks to go."

Queen Protea had made a habit of meetings lately and had yet to even hold her coronation. Of course her power was already in place and handed to her, so the coronation was just for the benefit of the people, yet still important.
After meeting with Laelia Kaliba, she met with Tempest of Xenothrin and his wife Harmony. They discussed the protection of the Capital, and Protea referred him to meet with Laelia in hopes of a possible alliance. She made sure to cover that all military affairs were in Laelia's jurisdiction and that she might refuse the alliance or give her own terms, but Tempest didn't seem to mind and agreed to arrange a meeting regardless.
The limited treasury was mentioned, and the King and Queen of Xenothrin offered funding to the Capital as a gift. Protea politely refused, explaining that the Capital would find the Queen weak if she accepted handouts from other nations because we would be indebted to them at the very least in favor and the eyes of the people. Instead, they agreed on a trade route between their kingdoms that would be properly guarded to deter thieves, which could benefit both kingdoms. An extra gift of gold was added into the agreement from the Xenthrin as a coronation gift, which Protea humbly accepted.
With the meeting over, Protea now had the 'deal' with Tyr, met the terms of the prior Queen, the alliance with the Tyran Army through Laelia Kaliba, and now the alliance with Xenothrin as well as the established trade route. She had also been getting taxes from some of the local businesses in the Capital which helped to fund these defenses. Things were looking promising for the Queen.
She still had to meet with the Goddess of Light and make her deal with her, which was her top priority. She also needed to hold the coronation, but before that she intended to get her counsel put in place. She also needed to hire a scribe and an accountant for the treasury. There was still much work to be done, but she was up for the challenge. The Capital deserved that much at least after all it had endured during prior reigns.

Protea had put together a similar ritual that she'd done with Tyr, in order to summon the Goddess Sinead instead. Instead of the fireplace though, she spoke to a flower pot that had a tree sapling and some flowers growing in it that would later be transplanted into the garden. It was the best way she knew how to represent light and life. It worked, and Sinead and her were able to have a pleasant discussion on the welfare of the Capital and each's terms.
The Goddess agreed to provide power to the Capital that would make the lands more fertile, and the weather mild (no natural disasters.) This would help both with travel to and from the Capital, but also provide for the residents who resided within to support themselves and have products to trade. In return, Protea agreed to have an emissary in her court, like Tyr. She also agreed to set up a place that could take on some of the load of the work of the Temple of Light, providing shelter and healing to those in need. Protea had already planned to have a shrine to each God, so people would also have places of temporary worship when they were unable to reach the main Temples.
Protea felt like things were going smoothly, despite the large pile of work she had to do. Now, it was time for her to put together a counsel in her court from outside lands that would have voice within the Capital on its welfare, trades, and influences.
