Some time ago they had retired to a quaint mountain chalet far north of the capital and well out of the way of Tyran's historical chaos. Reign Kaliba was seen now and then, appearing when the land balanced on the edge of destruction and/or disaster. But his consort remained out of sight.
There were many reasons why and if one put any thought into it at all they would soon be deemed obvious. It was not easy to rise and fall from divinity over and over again, to play host to more power and global influence than any mere mortal could ever imagine. Shelzi had been and done a great many things...except one.
She never got to be a mother.
She'd had children, but Tyran's dynamic tendencies ripped them from her fingertips. She'd unofficially adopted a number of Tyran's youth, maternal by nature and instinct. Reign's daughter Elyn, Rayelina's daughter Lyf, Amaya...just to name a few. She loved them all very much, but in the most secret corner of her heart she admitted it simply wasn't the same.
Shelzi stood by the open bedroom window gazing out at the dramatic, moon-washed landscape with a chill breeze toying with her hair. For the first time in far too long, she was at peace. Lips curled in a soft, tender smile, she turned away from the scenic view to admire Reign stretched out in their bed.
Her hand lay upon her slightly swollen belly and the flutter of life growing within.
She'd told him just that evening. They were going to have child. And tonight, she refused to think about anything else but that simple grace.
