Ardyn didn’t do the normal thing, where the prisoner paced his cell. The vault like composition of the cell diminished magic, something that made Ardyn physically distressed. He’d finished his lunch of broth and bread crusts, his shoulders slumped as he leaned forward on the hard bench positioned by the wall. He wasn’t entirely sure why he was here. Apparently he was the prime suspect in a crime accomplished during his stay, and further he was not something anyone had expected. He was beginning to think the old journal had lied to him. His jacket rolled up to form a pillow, he put it down on the bench and tried to sleep, the cell’s seclusion and isolation enough to dim his perception of time even this early. He had no real idea it was the middle of the day. The circle of magic which drained him in the seemingly vault like cell often kept him awake by it's sheer glow. Despite his own perception of the walls being opaque, to others they were transparent.

Elyn wasn't sure what drew her to the cell. She didn't even care to think about sneaking behind her family's back. If her father found out, would he be mad? She groaned at the thought.
Silently she slipped through the halls, a protective aura around her to keep the soldiers from detecting her presence. For a moment she just watched him, hidden from sight. He seemed to lost and confused... it almost made her pity him. Until, of course, she remembered that she didn't trust him!
"You... Ardyn...." she stepped forward, only a few feet away from the magical barrier. "Do you mind if I ask you some questions?" Probably better her than her father.

The girl’s voice was distorted- as if it came through a barrier of water. He looked up, rising from his reclined position. She could see him, but he could not see her, past the cell that muffled not just sound but blurred light and vision. Some would call the cell inhumane, but it was a preferable way to capture a magic user- far better than simply killing them. “Yeah, sure…” he said, his voice clarion clear to her outside of the cell. He didn’t look in her direction, but leaned back- obviously unable to see a thing- so his gaze lifted to the ceiling in consideration of his circumstances. “Elyn, right?” he assumed, Verity did not talk with such hesitance; she was also too young to be engaging in questioning.

Truth be told, Elyn was a little glad he couldn't see her. To her, the cell seemed like a perfectly fine place to keep a man who had proved himself in last nights battle. Furthermore, it gave her a chance to let her eyes slowly take him in.
Ardyn made her stomach turn with uneasiness. She didn't feel like she could trust him, which was why she was there.
"Yes," she said pride. "I'm glad to hear that you falling to the ground didn't rattle your memory."
Elyn carried a lot of her mother and father's traits, but interrogation wasn't one of them. Partly because Elyn didn't trust people like she trusted other things. Books and her own powers never lied to her; never failed her. People could lie, could cheat, could destroy her....
"I want to learn more about you. Like how you knew that the fire was coming and why you even came over to Verity and I in the first place. And don't say it was because we didn't have partners..."

“ I knew you didn’t go out much, Verity admitted as much. But it’s a little odd you don’t see why you’d be approached.” he said with a smile he didn’t know was so obvious. The man looked sickened, like a fish out of water but unwilling the flap and flop. He chuckled weakly, fingertips sorting through his hair exasperated at the sensation of being so- drained. What in the hell had Reign done to him?
“Boys go up to girls in dance halls. They don’t need a reason as much as both parties need a pulse.” He said matter of factly. “Learn about me all you wish, Elyn. I’m as open a book as one could be, considering the situation. I knew about the fire, because- well. Sometimes I have intuitions. Premonitions. I can sense danger happening before it happens. Verity can attest to that, though I doubt she’ll be allowed to.”
Ardyn didn’t trust Kaliba justice. It was the kind of justice that locked you away when you save someone from committing suicide by explosion. “Also, if you’re trying to prod me with my failings and fallings… You’ll find I’m not so ashamed of failure. It happens. Being that you’re all breathing- it feels like a success all the same.”

Elyn wrinkled her nose at his comment and reminded herself to let Verity know she got out plenty! For a moment she was speechless, unsure of how to answer. "I suppose it doesn't matter. It's just very curious you happened to be conversing with the right people at the right time. Makes me wonder if you had more than one premonition that evening." She didn't actually believe that much, but she also wasn't quite sure she believed in fate either. "I believe you," only because of his mention of Verity. "For now…" "I'm not trying to prod anything out of you. I'm simply asking questions and hoping that you will tell me the truth." She shrugged her shoulders, continuing to speak with a calm voice. "You're an Arisalonian?" She locked her gaze on his white hair. "Am I correct?"

“That depends. What is that, and why did this Reign fellow repeatedly accuse me of it?” His voice held genuine curiosity and maybe an ounce of concern. Her calm voice had him intrigued. How difficult it had to be to keep up such a front. He looked straight ahead and if Elyn was the sort she'd consider he must've seen her. “I'll tell you what I told him. I'm from The Raven Islands, grew up there. Moved to Silem for schooling. Came here not long ago for the same. I'm neither wealthy nor well connected, I'm a bastard and an orphan besides. I don't know a damn thing about any armor, and I certainly don't know anything about the beast from last night. “ “If Arisalonian fits me- then I guess it does. But I'm no thief.”

“It’s your bloodline,” she told him matter-o-factly. “I’m Arsalonian too.” Or… half. She took a small step back, her gaze locked on his. He scared her if she had to be honest with herself. Not that she would let anyone else see that.
"Your abilities might say otherwise, Ardyn. You were quite capable of helping to bring down that golem." So her father must have already attempted to talk to him.
"Tell me something... When you saw the three of us, did you feel something? Zephyr said he felt like he knew you, but you never met. I'm curious to know if you felt the same thing."

"I did actually. I felt you look at me." he said earnestly, his arms folding defensively. He didn't seem like he wanted to tell the truth, wanted to reveal so much, and yet here he was. "Then I felt all of you. Like a familiarity, something resonant. At first, I thought it was normal red-blooded thoughts. But then when I reached Verity and you, I felt almost..." he sighed. He must sound absolutely mad.
"Compelled. First to bow...to Verity I mean. Then, well. The feeling subsided. It kind of ached in a pleasant way, like a realization of muscles sore being made to relax." He canted his head to one side.
"Also- kind of uncomfortable. Like...something had been released. A tension snapped. I imagine you must know of what I speak."

Elyn found herself clinging to every word he spoke. It was as if she relived the moment as he told her, feeling her stomach clench in agony. Something about him made her want to crawl through the magical ward and comfort him. And then she snapped back to reality.
"If I had to be honest, something about you makes me feel sick." It was spoken in an awkward tone between embarrassment and amusement. She glanced away from the cell, unable to keep her eyes on him in that moment.
"I think it might be because you are Arsalonian. I'm not sure though." She sighed, trying to think of any further questions.

He chuckled, then he laughed a bit, then it came out of him with a guffaw, a kind of laugh one had to join in. "Well... I can't say I've heard that before. But if it's true, I'd rather not be an Arisalonian."
The quiet spread between them as questions died, and laughter slowly did the same.
"I know you came here, because you don't trust me. But I do appreciate the visit all the same." He said to her with a slow nod, weakly moving to lay back down, hands moving to 'fluff' his jacket pillow. "You have any other questions? " he asked as he turned to lay on his side.

Despite knowing he couldn't see her, Elyn hid her smile behind her hand. She didn't expect him to laugh, and normally-- when people didn't make her feel so uneasy--- she was a happy and laughing girl.
"You say that and yet you're still locked in there. Why would you appreciate me coming here to question you?" She still didn't know why she came down their either. Sure, she didn't trust him, but she could have easily left the questioning to her father.
"What do you plan on doing now?" The question left her lips before she could even think about it. She had no intention of coming down there to get to know him on a personal level. She didn't want to know him at all besides the information she needed in order to keep her family safe. "I mean, now that you've been captured. How do you plan on defending yourself against the Kaliba's?"

" I don't. Obviously." he said with a shrug. "I'm pretty sure I can't escape. No one seems particularl satisfied with my answers. Further.. I don't really think if I escaped there'd by anywhere worth going. I know I'm not your enemy, so for now... I'll have to hope you aren't mine."
"Losing is not the end of anything, when one is already planning the next game." He said, and that phrase was a quote. Reign Kaliba had said it in retort to an Arisalonian wizard's diatribe against the failure of Reign's unit. It was historical. It was for all intents and purposes ancient. He spoke it as if it simply came to him.
"If I get out of here, don't you worry. It'll be because I'm let out. And my next game? Is to get as far away from anyone named Kaliba as I can. Familiarity be damned."

Elyn wanted to tell him that he might not have been their enemy, but he wasn't their ally either. Something stopped her. It was a feeling of pity. Not because he was locked away, but because deep down she knew he was being honest with her.
"I think you might just have really bad luck, Ardyn. But thank you for repeating everything you told my father. I'm glad that you're willing to work with us." She took in his words and felt the desire to walk away and never see him again. Elyn wanted to... She wanted to walk away the moment she saw him and his coy smile. And yet there she stood, frozen in place.
Elyn suddenly found herself laughing. He wanted away from every Kaliba? Surely it was impossible. New Arisalon, Silem, even the Raven Islands.... Nearly every major city in Tyran had some connection to the Kaliba family. She found it even funnier that even if he didn't know it, they equally wanted to get as far away from one another as possible. Slowly, her laughter died as he mind continued to pace back and forth.
"I'm sorry you don't know much of your lineage." She raised her hand, not quite touching the cell wall, but hovering over it. Elyn connected to magic on a level that she could feel every ounce of energy put into keeping Ardyn inside. "I at least understand that much. I hope that when you are released, that you will be able to avoid all of this mess."

"Save it." Came the reply, his tone still more or less indulgent of her questions, even if he didn't much give a damn about her opinion. Her passive insults hadn't grazed him. "It's been more than five minutes, I'm sure the exchange has you ready to find a chamber pot."
Despite his resignation to the situaton, there was something defiant about him. Noble. Like a lion. It was a quality most people didn't have. It was uncomfortable no doubt, for anyone. But much more to a person who thought once upon a time, that they were the only ones with such bearing.
He didn't stalk. He didn't plod about his cage, he merely laid there. Resting. Or...surviving. There was something odd about the effect the cage had on him. The weakness, the weariness had eroded his good humor for the most part, despite the prod on her way off. "I hope someone holds your hair." And with that he turned from the outer pod of the cell and faced the wall his bench / cot was built into.
She might've been uncomfortable. But it didn't take a genius to know, he had lied. He didn't really want to go too far...

A gentle cant of her head was made at his tone before she turned on her heel and made her way to slip through the halls undetected. She truly didn't understand him, but she wouldn't pester him anymore. Elyn got all the information she needed to confirm that Ardyn wasn't the one her father suspected.
True, she could have just went and asked him, but she wanted to find out for herself. With all her might, Elyn attempted to push every thought of Ardyn out of her mind. If he was innocent, then he was no use to her.
