Genesis stirred the two components in the beaker while the events of the previous night played over and over in his head. How had a rag tag group been able to penetrate into the city and even more so into the palace? Why had it taken so long to dispatch the enemies at the gates? Where exactly was Arc? He held the liquid up to eye level and gave the side of the glass a solid flick. "Just about there..." his voice trailed.
The old general would find himself with another knock at his door. My, he was popular these days. Unlike Zephyr the previous evening, this knock was located mid-door, and light. Almost as though not wanting to disturb someone who was otherwise occupied. When the door opened, it would reveal a young woman in her mid-teens. A shy but friendly smile brightened her face, large blue eyes so vibrant. Honey-blonde hair fell loosely in waves down her back, and her gown was a bright sunflower yellow colour. Trent often referred to his little sister as a 'walking ball of sunshine'. And yet, Verity had another quality. She was also a walking polygraph. It was an innate ability, to tell when someone was lying. It was so potent that there were those that could not even bare to lie in her presence.
He looked up from his desk at the echoing call from his door. This one was shorter and softer than the night before. Could still be a child... but the way the knuckles rapped the door meant it was most likely a female, perhaps even a young one at that. He briefly entertained the idea that it could be another invisible person, but after last night's debacle he wouldn’t bet on a repeat offense so soon. Not after the threats Trent had made. He set the concoction aside and made his way to the door, pulling it open with purpose. When he saw her face, his demeanor lightened, "Hello there young miss. How may I be of service??" Secretly, he looked past her and into the hall, looking for any sign of movement. It was indeed possible they were still around...
As she was greeted, Verity's smile widened and she took the hem of her skirts in hand, dipping into a well-practiced curtsy. Though youthful, the girl certainly wasn't awkward. "General Letlove, my name is Verity Kaliba, youngest daughter of Arc and Rosewyn." She introduced herself. Come to think of it, she did resemble the Lady Kaliba in many ways. As she straightened, she folded her hands in front of herself demurely and appraised Genesis with a warm expression. "I wanted to offer my most heartfelt thanks for your assistance last evening. It is comforting to know that we have such friends in our home."

When she said his name, Arc, his mind flashed back to the night before. Arc had managed to commandeer Ardyn's body and help to repel the invaders. Whatever else that meant, it most assuredly proved that Arc was living, in some fashion, somewhere. Letlove had ideas on how to potentially allow Arc to further commune, but those ideas were a ways off from being field ready.
The teen laughed with amusement at his eager reply, the pet name he offered as if he were an uncle. He had a kind, paternal face. She'd never had an uncle before. Verity decided she liked the idea. "It is only what you deserve. It is lovely to meet you." A quick nod verified her agreement to his offer. "I really would, General." She said respectfully. "What is it?" Her head canted with kitten-like curiosity.
Genesis stepped back into his room and led her to his desk, retrieving the beaker he had been working with prior to her arrival. He continued to give its glittery contents a good stir while picking up conversation with Verity, "Last night, Zephyr was very brave. Attempted to protect his family by chasing things he couldn’t see. Foolhardy, but brave." He pivoted around to face her once more, liquid still held up to his eye level. "He used flour to reveal his enemy. Crafty, but that is food and could easily be patted off had the attackers had but a moment. This however...." he motioned for her to hold out her hands.
Verity followed Genesis, skirts dusting against the floor as she walked behind him. Clasping her hands behind her back, she leaned forward with open curiosity, staring at the beaker while he stirred it's contents. She smiled ruefully at the mention of her nephew. "That sounds like him. Zephyr doesn't always think before he does things. But he's brave." Her eyes widened eagerly as he motioned for her to hold out her hands. "Oh, please tell me it glitters." She said with excitement, pulling her hands out from behind her back and thrusting them forward.

"Ha!" he nodded, "If you enjoy glitter, you will be smitten by this!" he wouldn’t admit this out loud, but he had been enjoying the time with the children over the past two days. Made him feel younger and more full of energy. He quickly produced a small scrap of leather from his breast pocket and placed it flat over her hands. Carefully, he tipped the beaker over the leather and allowed a third of the sparkling liquid to slowly drain from the glass and pool on the leather scrap.
Once he was satisfied with the amount of material collected in her palm, he pointed at an apple he had placed on a nearby pedestal. " What you hold in your hand is a modified version of ballistic glue, which is what gives the liquid its transparent base. Mixed into the glue is crushed gold geode, which is giving it that nice golden glitter. Now what I want you to do," he instructed with a grin, "Is blow that material towards the apple."
Verity watched with fascination as Genesis placed the leather over her hands and then poured some of the contents of the beaker onto the leather. "Ballistic glue?" It sounded like a fancy term for something you fling at someone and it would stick. "Gold Geode? Is it expensive to make, then?" She asked curiously. "It reminds me of the gold dust that some ladies wear on their skin." Only it had a transparent base. She turned her attention to the apple he indicated and lowered her head so that her lips were in front of the ballistic glue. She inhaled slowly through her nose so she didn't risk any coming back and her, and then pursed her lips and blew.
Her inquisitive nature made him wonder briefly if she had a mind for the work he was doing? He would be able to teach Zephyr the arts of war and Verity the arts of the mind. Genesis actually liked that idea. "Yes! Ballistic glue, indeed. It was once used to coat siege weapon projectiles. Kept the flammable elements fixed to the ammunition so they could be fired while," the irony didn’t escape him, "On fire. The gold geodes are only worth as much as it costs someone to collect them. They get their name not from actually being made of gold, but because of the golden hue the crystalline structures have. They form in abundance near the Red Mountain." He watched intently as she blew across the leather, hopefully this would not disappoint.
Her breath stirred the top layer, fluffing it off into a misted cloud of particles that fluttered away from her and towards the apple. As she continued to exhale, the rest of the liquid would follow suit and form a long stream of the material between herself and the apple. "Now we see if it truly works!" Letlove clenched a fist in anticipation... When the first of vaporized liquid hit the apple, it immediately adhered to the surface and formed a nice shiny coat of golden glitter that cast yellow beams of reflected light around the room.
"Ha! Well done Verity! Success! This liquid binds to organic material, and will not come off unless dipped in water. But if our bad guy dips himself in water, well then he will be leaving a trail of water to follow instead!" he made a light-hearted extrapolation. The formula still needed work, but the proof of concept was all he needed to continue on to the final product.
