Fostering wasn't something that Manic or Bastion were too familiar with, being as new to the roles of king as they were. Vivi knew about it but didn't normally practice it since the fairies tended to have their own way's of doing things. Still Bastion was at his wits end with Peter. He had tried and tried so many times to get the boy to see just how important his role as prince was and how integral politics were to his family keeping the peace. Peter was 25 now but by fairy terms you might as well say he was 13 With the odd way in which fairy kind did tend to age. Their bodies would be full grown well before their brains and knowledge would catch up for most. This cause by the fact that they knew their lives were long lived and often saw no rush in learning everything all at once like human children did. They tended to learn to their interests and in Peters case his interest was in plants. This was really no surprise since he was a spring Fairy and thus had an affinity for plants among other things. Bastion had let the boy have his fun and to take up his interest but after the latest kid-napping and the near loss of Peter's life enough as enough. It was time to set the boy strait and make him see that while he may love plants he was still a prince and would have to man up to his more princely duties. It wasn't just this that had him so intent on seeking outside help. Both the Seelie and Unselie courts were putting pressure on him once more and he was worried that perhaps they had found out Peters secret. He didn't like what he had to do but in the end he would have to hope they would see this latests effort as a sign that Peter would be taking his new roll more seriously and would stop trying to pry into the boys mysterious past. He did what he did to prevent a war. So it was that a letter with Bastions crest on it would find it's way the the new Queens hands. The letter read as follows. To the new Queen Laelia Kaliba, I King Bastion Ja'hin Maraschino of the Fairy am mailing you today to se if you would be willing to foster my son Peter. I understand I am new to such things as this so if we could set up a time to talk more in private it would be appreciated. Simply send your reply to the western glade with the date and time you would prefer. Yours sincerely, King Bastion Ja'hin Maraschino of the Fairy

She had received so many letters. Far more than when she had been only a general. At that time, people petitioned her for protection, for alliances, for leniency. Now she received letters for everything from military matters, to trade, to what colour a citizen thought the flowers planted for the spring should be.
Laelia didn't give a damn about flowers.
However, while going through the day's correspondence, she discovered a peculiar note from King Bastian of the Fairy. Foster his son? Whatever for? It wasn't uncommon for Noble houses to send their children for a summer to another house to learn about them, or to foster goodwill between sons.
She wondered what Bastian's game was. Still, the more people who supported her coup, the better, and it couldn't hurt for her to at least hear the King of Fairy out.
King Bastian,
Bring your son Peter to the Capital so that we might meet and discuss this matter further.
Laelia Kaliba, Queen of Tyran
The date and time were included in the short note and then sent via messenger.

<style type="text/css"> p.p1 {margin: 0.0px 0.0px 0.0px 0.0px; font: 12.0px Helvetica} p.p2 {margin: 0.0px 0.0px 0.0px 0.0px; font: 12.0px Helvetica; min-height: 14.0px} </style> Bastion had been at play with his girls Inara and Aurora when the messenger had come to him with the returned later. Whatever messenger Laelia had sent would have had to drop the return mail off at the guard post the fairies had set up. The lace looking more like a cottage than an outpost. This was necessary as no-one would be able to find the glade unless they were a fairy. So they set up this ‘out post’ where A fairy lived and would greet any and all who sought the glade, also taking in messaged like this one before bringing them to the king.
He took the Letter from the kind mail fairy and opened the letter while his girls took off to play with each other. He was happy that they out never have to deal with the same pressures as Peter did. Their birthing had been confirmed and so was never questioned afterward. Plus they were women and the pressure always seemed to go onto the eldest son in the royal families.
Max was older than Peter but he was human and adopted in, Orin was technically older as well but the last time Bastion had seen him he was still a vampire and the fairies would never accept him to rule. So unfortunately Peter was at the top of a very odd royal chain.
Not wanting to keep the messenger Laelia sent waiting he quickly replied, giving her a location to meet in that was a well known place. It’s name was the Jagged Rock and it rented out rooms for such meeting as this one with the added bonus of providing protection and absolute silence in regards to whatever may be discussed behind closed walls.
When Laelia did arrive, whether it be alone or with a armed guard she would find the place easily enough as it wasn’t exactly a hidden establishment. It had a very simple and unassuming outer walls. with a brick fence going around the small garden out front and a bridge connecting the two top rooms. Guards would be stationed at the gate but when she told them who she was they would open the gate for her and let her in, the guards waring uniforms indicating they worked for the Jagged Rock and not for the king.
Once in the main entrance an elderly lady would greet her and check her in, sending her on her way once more with a younger lad that took her up to where Bastion and Peter sat waiting for her. The room they were in had a lounge are on one side with couches allowing amore relaxed atmosphere with a fire place roaring opposite the couches.
Bastion was sitting on one of the large black couched along with Peter, his black outfit almost seeming to blend into the couch. He wore his royal crown and would get up to bow at the waist as she came in, the crown managing to stay in place “Thank you for meeting me here and making the time for us. I’m sure you have questions of your own” he smiled straitening to his normal 5’ 4” hight and looked over to Peter whose still sat on the couch. “Please excuse my son Peter, As you can see he has a bit of a ways to go when it comes to manners” the man sighed heavily and shifted those big red and golden wings at his back.
Petter was 6’2” tall and so was taller than his father though they both looked to be about the same age. He was dressed in an all blue outfit and did at least look like a prince, though he sat casually and wore a half mask that covered his eyes from view. “Whatever Father. I work hard and I tend my garden and I’m happy. I don’t really see why I need to become a king all of a sudden. Let one of my younger brothers take the throne when they are old enough and is the courts have a problem with that well I’m sure mom could straiten it out. As for not getting up to bow.. I didn’t realize she was here. I can’t exactly see” he responded with a bit of snark and got up to give a small bow, one the showed he was only doing this because he had too and not because of any respect he had for her.

So the King of Fairy preferred to meet at Jagged Rock. It was out of the way for her, but she supposed she couldn't stay holed up in the Capital forever. Getting the palace built and the city fortified had been her main priority, but now that the work was mostly done, she could focus her attention on other things. Alliances and treaties were among those other things.
Thankfully Laelia had close relationships with several large and influential nations. New Arisalon, Silem, the Raven Islands. There were others with which her relations were friendly, but not exactly what she would call close enough to provide mutual aid in the event of a catastrophe. Several other nations had offered support if needed, and she intended to build those relationships into something beneficial and stabilizing.
Thus, Laelia saw this meeting as an opportunity to strengthen relations with the Faeries. Fostering a single boy meant little enough to her, but the favour it did for King Bastion would surely garner good will.
"Ser Morgenstern, I'm going to be taking a little trip. I'd like you to accompany me." Laelia had never been one for large armed escorts. She typically traveled alone and had confidence that she could handle most of what might be thrown at her if things went awry. However, now that there was a throne to consider, and the target on her back that accompanied it, she decided it was wise to have someone accompany her who was able to watch her back. Ehren's loyalty had quickly earned the knight the position of confidante to the Queen. She could think of no better person for the job than the Butterfly Knight.
After making preparations for departure, the pair flew on griffon-back to Jagged Rock. Terryn was easily able to bear the weight of two average-sized people, plus armour. Flying took less time, and ensured they would be back to the Capital far more quickly than if they had gone by horseback. Laelia ensured Ehren was well secured to Terryn's saddle as to her knowledge it was the first time the knight had flown.
Terryn landed outside of Jagged Rock and Laelia waved Terryn away to go hunt while she conducted her business. The two women approached the gate and were led inside. Once checked in, the lad led them to where Bastian and Peter awaited.
"You're welcome." Laelia nodded her head deeply in response to Bastian's bow, as close to a bow as she would come to herself. "I do have questions, King Bastian." She answered with a polite aloofness as she moved to seat herself. "But first, let me introduce you to Ser Ehren Morgenstern. I do hope you don't mind I brought him to accompany me."
"I'm surprised you couldn't hear me. I'm told that when one sense is impeded, the others become more sensitive to compensate. That isn't important at the moment, however." She said to Peter. "Why can you not see?"
A pale brow lofted at Bastian. "I am also curious. If you have other children more willing to shoulder the burden of rule, why insist that this child in particular be your heir?" There was no bite to her tone, only simple curiosity.

Ehren was always ready to go at a moments notice. Especially when it came to the queen of Tyran. So when Laelia asked to join her side, the answer was obviously "of course, your grace."
No one mentioned flying, but Ehren did well their best to try not to seem too scared. Fumbling hands were not sure where to hold, especially when it was the queen that was the person they would have to hang on to. Ehren settled her heart after a few minutes of soaring through the air, enjoying the view. "I think I could get used to travelling this way...."
The knight stood close to the queen, but eyes continued to shift along the lands. They did pause to nod to Bastian as the introduction was made.

(Apologies for the long post)
Bastion Bowed to Ser Ehren Morgenstern when the guard was introduced, not sure if it was a man or a woman he was bowing to but then he didn’t rally care either way. “It’s quite fine. I hadn’t quite expected the new Queen to come alone as I know how it can be when you are new and perhaps not quite accepted by all under your rule” he sighed a bit, running his clawed hands though his short cut red hair. “Pleas have a seat and I will explain as best I can my Queen; and of course Ser Ehren Morgenstern if you would like to sit you may as well” he smiled unintentionally showing his very sharp shark like teeth. He was trying to be kind but still managed to look quite frightening for one of his stature. Then again it wasn’t anything that would frighten someone as seasoned as Laelia who had probably seen her fair share of strange creatures during her time as general and captain.
Peter continued to stand as introductions were made and frowned a bit as it seemed his rudeness didn’t go whole unnoticed by Laelia. “I believe the phenomenon you speak of is not one that takes hold right away but is rather something that occurs only after time when the body has had time to adjust. In my case I was recently blinded. So the rest of my body just hasn’t adjusted to things yet.” He explained for himself, not going into details on how he was blinded nor why he wore a mask to cover his eyes.
“Father and mother are trying to see about having it fixed at some point though. So soon enough it won’t be a problem” he finished, puffing out his chest a bit as he was trying to show off that he knew more than her even though he most definetly did not. Peter turned to where he thought Ser Ehren Morgenstern might be and gave a short bow to a lamp instead of the guard ‘welcome’ he said shortly before going back to flop on the couch. “Yes Father why don’t you tell us all why it has to be me” the boy added in a very annoyed voice.
Bastion sighed, doing his best to hold his temper and not just smack his son for being so impertinent. “Peter! Enough!” he barked and rubbed at his temples a bit. He would wait for all to get comfortable regardless of it they were sitting or not before he would explain things to her. “The situation is this. Fairies only really like having fairies as rulers. Their very racist that way I guess you could say. The only reason they accept me is because I was able to break the curse on one of the glades and bring children into a world where children didn’t normally exist. Fairies are normally sterile beings you see and so they reluctantly accepted me after Peter came into the world." His hand gesturing to the now bored looking man next to him, Peter mostly bored because he had heard this story a million times.
“Max while older than Peter was not born to me and is human so they would never accept him as king or at least would give him as much grief as they gave me. Similarly when it comes to Orin they wouldn’t accept him because he is a vampire and vampires are the sworn enemies of the fairies.” he sighed a bit at how challenging the fairies could be. So that now leaves Peter as being the oldest male fairy child I have and well that about sums it up really. He must become king and produce a heir which will be challenging in and of itself since he is sterile. How this can be when I broke the curse causing such things I do not fully understand but it is what it is.” he shrugged, lying a bit there as he did know exactly why Peter was as he was but he couldn’t and wouldn’t tell Laelia any of that.
“When Peter was first born their was almost a war and my Queen wife was taken as the others were jealous of the new born boy and wanted to learn of our secret. They even.. they even wanted to watch us to see how it was possible” he said, looking very uncomfortable about all of this. "In the end it was all settled when Manic willing let them watch him and Vivi and produced our daughter Inarra.” he shuddered a bit though, still not liking what had gone on. “Things were calm for a long time and so Peter was allowed to do whatever he liked.. which has now proven to be my biggest mistake.” his shoulders slumping along with his wings as if he had the weight of the world on him “They other fairies want children the thrive in their lands like they do in mine now and unless I can get Peter to be serious and take up his role.. we could be at war for sure.” he finished and looked up to see what else the new queen might ask or want to know out of all of that.
“As to the girls I have.. they are too young and are lucky enough to not have to ever worry about being forced into ruling like Peter is being forced.. But I’m not sue what else to do now.. I’m still new to bing king myself and all this political stuff is just so far above me.” he admitted in almost a pleading voice.

There was no change to her facial expression to betray how distasteful she found certain parts of his story. He certainly wasn't representing Faeries as a whole in a very favourable light. Laelia supposed if nothing else, the information as to their nature was valuable.
"I see. So to make a long story short, your people are unlikely to accept the rule of anyone but Peter in the line of succession." She couldn't pretend to understand Peter's reluctance. House Kaliba bred duty into the hearts and souls of its progeny. Laelia took her duty very seriously.
"I don't know what fostering with me and my son will accomplish, however I am willing to foster Peter in return for Fairy's support of my rule. My son, Zephyr, is of a similar age. Perhaps he will have some influence."

Bastion couldn’t read any change on the generals face and yet he still felt the need to clarify one thing “just so you know not all fairies are the same. They are much like humans in that you have some that are quite fowl and strange and some that are just as normal and kind as any human you might have met.” he said, not sure if she would believe him after the horrible things he had said but it had been necessary so she could understand o at least in his mind it had been.
He would nod to her summation “indeed…” he sighed and looked at Peter who just frowned in turn. The boy had been raised with a soft hand and a kind heart. He had not be taught to follow his duty so it was no surprise that now when Bastion was trying to shove duty down Peters throat the boy was choking on it a bit.
Bastion looked up at what Laelia said. “My Queen I have known you but a short time when I worked as the previous queens blacksmith and even when I left to go pursue other things and found myself a king of my own land I have never once found a place in this world that did not know your name or of you many exploits. I’m hoping that by being with you Peter will get to see exactly what it means to do hat is needed rather than just do as he wishes and indeed I’m hopping too that your son will be of a good influence on him. I have tried and done what I can but it seems he will not listen to me… children often listen to their peers well before their parents it seems” he sighed heavily.
Peter looked over at that “oh yes because I see Zephyr or this woman as my peers…. I think not. Why not force them the accept another as ruler? So what if it means things will be a bit rough for the new king. Not like it wasn’t rough for you and you managed. I just don’t see why you can’t do that and leave me to my plants.” he grumbled and folded his arms across his chest in a protective manner.
Bastion shook his head “As I just said… to put another that is not you would be cause for war.. what part of that do you not understand…” he frowned and looked at Laelia. “As you see he just does not listen to me… “ he moved to get up, stretching his legs a bit. “As to the support of your rule, I agree with the stipulation that should you ever turn fowl like Protea I’ll be the one coping off your head” he replied, even though he was sure that he would lose more than his life at such an attempt he wanted her to know where he stood.
"So no do we shake hands, sign aa contract?" he asked, not sure how things went from here.

Laelia's icy blue eyes snapped dangerously to the young man, Peter, as he so flippantly discarded the notion of peerage. "I will tolerate questions and even disagreement. But I will not tolerate disrespect, boy." She said sternly, staring at him with a withering gaze.
The Queen stood to her feet and turned her attention back to Bastion, extending her hand to shake. "I sincerely hope you would make the attempt if nothing else." She said to his stipulation regarding support of her rule. Laelia didn't need to contemplate his likelihood of success. It seemed he had already done so.
Laelia slid her gaze back to Peter. "Are you ready to accompany me to the Capital now? Or do you have things to gather first?"

Peter caught her tone and her gaze and just glared right back at her in challenge almost. It seemed that Laelia did indeed have her work cut out for her. He was wanting to protest. He was wanting to go home. He didn’t want to go with her at all. He opened his mouth to protest but Bastion cut him off. “I will have his things brought along latter if that is ok my queen” He said and reached out to accept her offered hand.
He shook her hand then pulled away to look at his son “Peter… if you would please go with the Queen at this time and no more of that mouth boy.” he said sternly and held the boys gaze until Peter would finally get up moving to go with Laelia, even if he may not want to. He could see he had no choice in things and if that was the case he would plan on being a brat so that she would consider sending him home. She would have to earn the boys respect just as he would have to earn hers.
“Lets go then..” Peter said gruffly, waiting now on Laelia to lead the way.

"That is agreeable, King Bastion." Laelia said with a nod of her head, turning her attention away from Peter. "I will write to you with periodic updates."
"Come along." She said then to Peter, lifting her helm from the table and tucking it beneath her arm. She trusted Ser Morgenstern would accompany them on their way out.
"Terryn cannot bear three riders, and so we shall ring gate back to the Capital." She advised once they reached the gate and the griffon that waited for them beyond. The large male griffon raised his white feathered head and stretched his mighty golden wings, standing to his feet.
Laelia pulled a small silver ring from her left smallest finger and tossed it to the ground. The ring expanded, activating a teleportation gate. "Everyone through." She said, and stepped into the ring followed closely by the griffon. Once they were all through on the other side, the gate closed and the ring shrunk back to its normal size. She stooped to pick it up and replace it on her finger.
They had arrived in the busy main courtyard of the palace, where nearby guards snapped to attention with surprise and raised their hands in salute to their Queen. Laelia handed Terryn off to one of the few griffon keepers she trusted to attend him, and then turned to look to Peter. "Welcome to the Capital. Lets get you settled."

Bastion gave her a nod and a final bow “that would be appreciated and I shall send funds for his allowance and upkeep. I wouldn’t want you having to pay for his feeding needs after all.” he smiled, handing over a bag of coin already before they would go.
Peter watched this transaction with a scowl on his face “Oh just wonderful, you really do want to treat me like some kind of slave to be sold don’t you?” he said to his father but his father said nothing and simple waited on them to go.
Peter huffed and moved out of the building with the Queen. “so am I to believe that the stories of you are true then. Did you truly cut of the had of the old queen?” he asked outright, seeing the griffon and scoffing a bit. “Pegasus's are far better for riding you know, better temperament.” He informs her even as she would open the gate and order them through.
He looked at the way everyone jumped when she arrived “huh, seems everyone around here is wound a bit too tightly if you ask me. Jumping about like a bunch of jack rabbits over a woman just because she is queen.” he said shaking his head. Taking in all the emotions and energy about him would cause him to shimmer ever so lightly. He took a deep breath in and let it out with a satisfied sigh. “well at least the energy is clean and plentifully” he grumbled a bit, running his hand through his green hair as his vine tail sway back and forth at his back.

"I did execute Protea Kyanite." Laelia replied with a nod. "What other stories you've heard, I cannot say." There were likely to be many floating around, some true, some not, some perhaps simply overly embellished.
Her lips pursed in a grim smirk, retorting with blatant sarcasm at his attempt to inform an experienced general as to the suitability of her war mount. "Oh, by all means...Perhaps you would deign to share your superior knowledge of aerial mounts, their training and suitability for warfare. Since you seem to have so much experience with the subject, that is."
Laelia glanced sideways at the young man without missing a step. "Be careful not to offend Terryn then, with your scrutiny. With his less worthy 'temperament', such a thing surely wouldn't be wise." She said, pointing out the flaw in his logic. Did it truly make sense to insult a creature you believed had a poor temperament?
"It is called 'respect', Peter." She replied to his observation when people snapped to attention when she arrived. "Perhaps you will earn such reactions one day. But not today. No one respects petulance."
She led him from the courtyard and up through the main doors into the palace proper. The corridors were built of sturdy stone. The decor was not overly embellished, but possessed an elegant and understated military theme. Tapestries here and there depicted great battles of Tyran's past, and armour and weapons of historical importance were on display. Laelia casually showed Peter where the important areas were on their way through. It took some time, however it was necessary for the young man to know where he was going.
Eventually they found themselves in the royal wing where the living quarters for the royal family and distinguished guests were located. "Your chamber is here." Laelia opened the door to a room that was decorated with various essentials. "If you have need of anything that has not already been provided for you, tell me. I'll leave you to get settled for now. The bell will chime when it is time for dinner."

Peter listened intently to what Laelia was saying. “I have heard many a story about you, like that you have a twin and are the daughter to a demon. Also some seem to think you are born of angles and carry a glowing blade that revels your true angelic winged form. So I have to wonder which it is or if it’s neither for you see quite human to me. I have met demons and you haven’t the taste of them.” he told her as each race had it’s own unique taste to it energy for him.
Peter opened his mouth as if the indeed go on about which mounts were the best but then quickly shut it as she pointed out the obvious folly. He glanced at Terryn and his jaw stiffened as he thought what damage the creature could do. “Well perhaps I will speak of it to you when Terryn isn’t present so that he doesn’t take such offence. Though if he is unable to listen to such talk without violence then is that not in itself proof of bad temperament?” he asked her in turn.
“I see.. so you think so lowly of me do you?” he asked. “Back home plenty respect me and tree me the way I should be treated without fear of what might happen if they don’t. Can you say the same?” he wanted to know as to him it looked more like the people her feared her.
He followed her along and into the palace. It looked empty and cold compared to the home he was used to that was built into a tree and full of life and warmth. His purple hues trailed along the tapestries and he wold pay enough attention to where things were so that he could get around latter. "It’s a very cold place… ever thought of adding some flowers in?” His voice echoing a bit off the walls as he spoke. “I just need to spend time outside each day and lots of water. The rest I can get myself. See you at dinner then” he smiled slightly and tuned to go into his room and started unpacking.

Laelia snorted at the rumours he had heard. "At one time, there are those who would have likened my father to a demon, but he was quite human. Arisalonian. Blessed with a long lifespan and a few other benefits, but human nonetheless. The rest is hogwash."
Rolling her eyes, she waved her hand dismissively. "Peter, Terryn's temperament is just fine. I was merely pointing out the flaw in your logic."
"You've done little since we met, except sullenly complain about your circumstances and try to shaft your responsibility. Which has given my opinion of you very little to work with. Do people only treat me respectfully because they fear me?" She shrugged. "You would have to ask them. I have high expectations for the work they do. But as for how I am treated? I don't exactly have a 'bow or be beheaded' policy."
"Flowers." She said thoughtfully. "If you feel so inclined, the gardens could admittedly use some work." And with that, Laelia left him to settle in.
