The night was cool, but unlike most people who walked around outside, Queen Laelia wasn't bundled against the dropping temperature. Starscale, the sword at her hip, alleviated fluctuations in her body temperature and so she barely noticed the cold.
Currently she stood near the gate of the palace, speaking to several guards who circled a small fire that kept them warm. Their hushed murmurs barely stood out over the crackling of the flame.
Maggie would have her little sister ginger by the hand , and they walked up to the castle gates , Maggie would be dressed in her finest attire. and she would have made sure that Ginger was too , she had made sure that her instrument and she was helping ginger carry the dress too . Maggie was relatively Short for her age extremely skinny , growing and very healthy looking and very well cared for , She would see the guards and run up to the gates then in breathy Voice say " I am Maggie Mcarther My father is Cairo and they is Ginger , we are sister ,My sister made a dress and I wrote a song for the queen , we would like an audience if we could " she didn't really know what Laelia looked liked . and so did not acknowledge her as queen.
Ginger had followed Maggie a bit in awe of the castle, the calico furred feline girl moving closer to Maggie as they approach it as if she could hide behind or perhaps within her. The dress for the queen is folded in plain white cloth to keep it from prying eyes and Maggie might have noticed it was surprizingly heavy even for a formal gown. Ginger herself was dressed in an overly flouncy and lace covered ballgown, her notion of finery proper for meeting the queen of tyran.

The group fell silent in their conversation as the girls ran with enthusiasm up to the gates. Laelia glanced over, pale brow raising in curiosity. Years ago she would have scoffed at the notion of granting an audience to children. And yet now, having a son of her own, she couldn't help but turn towards the gate. Her mouth curved wryly as she approached with a steady gait. McArthur. Cairo. She knew the name, the man was on her council.
"You wrote a song for the Queen?" She asked, head canting. "I see. And a dress?" Laelia schooled her features not to grimace. She certainly hoped she wasn't expected to wear it. Laelia had no qualms about insulting a renowned seamstress, but a small child? That, she was more reluctant to do.
The gate creaked open at Laelia's urging and she beckoned the two inside to the fire where it was warm. "You both look very pretty. Did you dress up to see the Queen?" Meanwhile the guards smiled knowingly, that the girls had already found the Queen, but didn't know it.
Maggie was actually quite shocked to be let in so easily but then thought well maybe Cairo is much more influential then she thought. She watched the woman's face as she spoke Maggie was ever observant to adults faces . She would walk in at the beckoning and nodded her head " Yes we wanted to represent our family well , but they don't know we came , because we were afraid they would have said no " Maggie could not lie or keep a secret if her life depended on it . She just blurted out usually what ever on her mind , which got her in trouble more then it helped her. " do you know the queen is she nice ?"
Ginger nods and smiles shyly at Laelia "I put on my very bestest dress for the Queen. Do you think she will like it?" she follows after Laelia oblivious to the woman being the queen, she assumed given the company that she was a guard. "I hope she likes the dress I made her. I worked very hard to make a dress a general queen would like." she sounds nervous at that and like she might cry if the queen doesn't.

Of course they didn't know. She couldn't imagine Cairo letting two young girls approach the palace on their own. "Representing one's family well is very important. You add or remove from their reputation with your actions. I'm sure your father is proud of you."
"Do I think the Queen is nice?" Laelia stroked her chin thoughtfully. "Well I'm not certain. I've heard some people say that she's a hard taskmaster. That she isn't always the most patient of people. Tell me: What have you heard?" She asked, casting a glance to the guards who were hiding their chuckles with awkward coughing.
"I'm sure the Queen will think your dress is very nice." Laelia said confidently. "I know she'll like the dress you made for her since you worked so hard on it." She almost chewed through the inside of her cheek to say the words, but she said them!
When asked the question what had Maggie heard " Well I know she a general before she was a queen , and I know that My dad when i am terribly disobedient, threatens to send me to her boot camp . and I heard that once she saved a person from drowning when a god was drowning them , and that my Dad seems to think she is a good person. and Is going to be a good queen "
Ginger beams at Laelia, green eyes glimmering softly "I hope so, I never made a dress for a queen before. I made some for playing princess though, I suppose they are sort of the same. But then I had to think what a general would like, so I made some modifications."

"He does, does he?" She didn't know how she felt about her training being used as a threat that way, but if it worked, perhaps it wasn't so bad. "I hope you obey your father. Even the Queen had to obey her father when she as growing up." She nodded sagely.
Maggie had heard about that? Laelia hadn't been much older than Maggie when she'd saved a child frown drowning during the flood. That had been conveniently caused by her own father. "Well I suppose she doesn't sound like such a bad person when you put things that way." It was certainly a better answer than she thought she'd get.
"Can I hear your song? And see the dress?"
Maggie looks to the person she debates back and forth...." well i would really like the queen to hear it first ..because i spent a lot of time writing it especially for her , but i suppose you have to make sure there is nothing bad in the song , or that the dress isn't laced with poison , which it isn't i promise , we don't want to be locked in dungeons " she makes a grimacing face she would nod to ginger to go first why she tuned her Gittern.
Laelia smirked. "I promise that the Queen will never know that she wasn't the first person to hear it."
Ginger frowns a bit at Maggie's words "Who in their right mind would put posion in a dress. Poison goes in apples remember the story about the witch and the white lady." she resumes her smile at Laelia's words and starts unwrapping the dress, a strange piece as the worksmanship is every bit as skilled as any seamstress could hope for, but the design is one no designer would have made. It had obviously started out being designed as a fancy court gown, but then the skirt had been shortened to kilt length and the underside of it had been reinforced with strips of stiff leather in such a manner as to leave ample movement room. Meanwhile the bodice had been designed originally with the typical boning in mind, but the boning had been passed over in favor of a series of metal plates sew into the bodice and belly of the gown. Under other circumstances such a thing might have looked frankensteinish, but a mind unfettered by how things should be done had adjusted the overall look and decoration to accentuatate the work. She beams at Laelia hoping she would say the queen would adore it and wear it everyday.

Laelia observed the gown with a curious eye. It was unique and far more practical than most gowns. The skirt was cut to the length of a battle skirt, and one could in theory wear leggings with it. The leather reinforcing beneath the skirt added a layer of armour unseen to the casual observer. The metal plates in the bodice acted as their own kind of armour and while it was not something Laelia thought she would ever wear, she admired the creativity and thought that went into it. "It's unique and creative. I've never seen anything like it. And your seam work is flawless. I could never make anything like this. I'm sure the Queen will feel the same way." She said, patting the girl's shoulder.
After ginger had showed her dress , and Maggie had finally tuned her Gittern to perfection which took a little bit because maggie had been a late bloomer to picking an apprenticeship. She took a deep breath and begin plucking out a simple tune on the gittern and them she started singing Maggie's voice , was sweet as you would expect a 13 years old to be , but it was more developed for her age , which would give a hint to some natural talent that was being trained and honed .
At the earliest of dawn We heard the trumpets sounding of death final song There Is blood on the floor The general has killed that queen And sat in her throne. General Laelia sliced her head. Queen protea is dead. Protea head rolled on the floor Queen Laelia kicked it out the door All hail Queen Laelia, Long live the general queen. This her time. Her place, her legacy Tyran Unite! One Kingdome one land one Queen General Laelia sliced her head. Queen protea is dead. Protea head rolled on the floor Queen Lealia kicked it out the door Long live the Queen She Gives freedom She Gives justice and fair sovereignty. Long live Queen Laelia.

As the girl began to sing, Laelia didn't know what she expected, but this wasn't it. The lyrics while amusing (and not entirely accurate) in their composition, were made somber by the girl's serious recitation of them. She imagined the girl hadn't performed this song to her parents. The were words most parents wouldn't want their 13 year old child to say. But Laelia, a woman who had run away from home to join the military at an age even younger than Maggie, wasn't concerned over how young Maggie was.
Most all people dreamed of a life where their name was immortalized in song. And while this song had been written by a 13 year old, it was still touching. Humbling. It took a moment for her to find her words. She swallowed hard and smiled slightly. "I should let you in on the secret now. I'm Laelia Kaliba. Don't worry. The Queen of Tyran has thoroughly enjoyed your song."
Her gaze found Ginger. "And your dress. You are both precious. You have my thanks."
Ginger's eyes grow wider and she says softly "You are? Did you really kick the old queen's head out of the door? Did you use that sword to do it?" she pauses then and grabs Maggie to dance around "She liked my dress!" she yells that last with all the abandon a ten year old can manage.
Maggie's eyes got very wide as she was in front of the queen the whole time . Maggies face was frozen in shock for a moment , she thought she would have to go through the agonizing affair of having to curtsy, she had practiced her small talk . and she was standing in front of them like a normal person . but then she relaxed , and she bowed and nodded her head " thank you Queen , Laelia Kaliba , it was honor to sing before you " She said that with such mechanics , that she had obviously been practicing that line over and over and over.. She put a hand on gingers shoulder to calm her down and whispered out of the corner of her mouth, to calm down give a curtsy and say "thank you "

Laelia shook her head. "No, I didn't kick her head. I'm afraid that part was slightly...embellished." Laelia cast a sideways glance to Maggie, but it wasn't in disapproval. No song or tale was ever entirely accurate. "But I did use this sword." A low chuckle rumbled in her chest as Ginger danced around happily.
"I'm honoured that you wrote me a song." It was endearing to watch Maggie go through the stages of realization as to who Laelia really was. "You're both very talented girls and I'm confident you're both going to go a long way. "
He brow furrowed slightly. "I've enjoyed our conversation, but I'm afraid I have to stop hanging around and get back to work. I'll have Sergeant Tomlin escort you back home, alright? I don't want you walking alone in the dark."
Ginger gives a deep curtsey as directed by her sister "Thank you for your time, Queen Laelia. It was a pleasure to make something for you." she then resumes hugging Maggie "She liked it she liked it." having lost her control once more.
Even Maggies eyes got wide again when Laelia said that was THEE ACTUAL SWORD of the beheading " holy shit " she then covered her mouth and turned around before she would ruin her good standing with the queen " Thank you !" She would say one more time before heading off with ginger and Sergeant Tomlin .
