Rumors reached silem again. A new queen... but this one carried a name that Nilsia was familiar with. Although Nil never really spent time with Laelia Kaliba, the two houses did a lot of exchanges over the years. Protea never saw the Duke or Duchess, but Nil understood the importance of a connection between all the royal bloods to protect Tyran.
The capital had changed over the years, but it still carried the familiar atmosphere that Nilsia missed. Silem had its own strengths and weaknesses, but it wasn't a bustling city like Tyran or New Arisalon. Instead people went there to get away from work or enjoy the arts. The duchness created a place where people coud be protected in honor of her mother and Sir Avaraine. Now it was time to make sure the capital believed in that little city as well.
"Please let her Grace know that Duchess Nilsia Etnad Zadkiel wishes to speak to her. I sent a letter a few days prior to alert her of my arrival," she said to one of the guards.
Silem and New Arisalon had carried an alliance for many years, the two cities tied together by friendship that had blossomed between Nilsia Zadkiel, Trent Kaliba and his late lover, Sylvanna. Though Laelia had never interacted with Nilsia in person, Silem had dedicated Anemoi warriors to the Tyran coalition army and Laelia had appreciated that a city devoted to pacifism and peace would even consider such a thing. Even a city of peace knew that war was sometimes necessary to maintain the freedoms everyone enjoyed. And so even now that the coalition army had been disbanded, Laelia still counted Silem amongst those she could call allies. The goal of mutual protection could be counted on.
The guard bowed to the Duchess of Silem and addressed her and her entourage as they were invited into the courtyard of the new castle that had been built. "Of course, My Lady. Her Grace is expecting you. Accomodations have been prepared for you and your escort."
Moments later, a well dressed older gentleman approached, bowing deeply. "Welcome to the Capital, Lady Zadkiel. I am Garneth Seamantle, the castle Seneschal. Her Majesty has asked me to lead you inside. Please, follow me." The man responsible for overseeing the day to day maintaining of the household straightened proudly and turned to lead the Duchess inside.

: "Wonderful. A pleasure to meet you, Sir Saemantle." Her tone was soft, ableit flat. There was a hint of a smile on Nilsia's face, but otherwise she showed no emotion. Unlike her other sisters, Nilsia carried herself with far more grace. Not that she had much of a choice... Although she never dreamed of Silem standing on its own so well, Nil had to be a leader since she was young. This was the path her mother could have went on had she not become a goddess... and Nilsia refused to let her down. It was part of the reason why she reached out to the Kalibas.
Now she was meeting Sinead's favourite of them all: Laelia. Truthfully, the woman felt a little nervous because of that, but she hid it well behind her locked mind.
The duchess only came with her daughter, Moira, and a single guard. Travel was easy when you had the powers of light on your side, so she only needed to create a portal for the three of them right from the inside of Zadkiel manor.
On the outside, the palace in the Capital was beautiful, engineers from New Arisalon and from Pendragon's M.A.G.I.C store having created a building that was both aesthetically pleasing, but also fortress-strong and able to withstand a seige. Of course, Laelia Kaliba would have had it no other way. Inside, the decor was still sparse, as one might expect of a household that was still being established. As he lead her, Seneschal Seamantle explained that tapestries had been ordered and were in the process of being created, but that the Queen preferred a low-key decor that was friendly to the royal coffers.
It wasn't long before the Duchess was led to a great hall where Laelia awaited them. Aside from a few guards who watched over the room, the hall was otherwise empty of people. Laelia herself was clad in tan coloured trousers that hugged her legs, and boots that came up to mid-calf. A long steel blue tunic sporting an oriental-stype collar was belted at her waist and from that belt hung Starscale, forged from the metal of her father's fallen godstar and blessed by Sinead herself. She was certainly a Kaliba, sharing similar features to her siblings.
Behind her was a dais and upon it a throne, however Laelia stood below on equal footing with the Duchess, her daughter and guard who were led into the room. "Your Grace, I present Duchess Nilsia Zadkiel of Silem, her daughter Lady Moira Zadkiel, and their escort." He bowed, and then shuffled out of the way to the side.
"Welcome to the Capital, Duchess Nilsia." Laelia said smoothly, her expression devoid of emotion but not unfriendly. "Lady Moira. I understand it's been quite some time since you've set foot within the city."

Nilsia was interested in all that the Seneschal spoke of as well as the beauty of the remodeled castle. However, it wasn't until she reached the great hall that she actually smiled at the sight of the Queen. She certainly reminded Nil of Trent and all her worries left her. If Laelia was anything like her brother, Nil was sure they too could be good friends.
"Your Grace," she spoke as she knelt into a gentle curtsey. Moira followed upon hearing her name, pushing forth a mock smile. "It has changed a lot, but there's still something familiar about it. I suppose it's partly my home as well, even though I oversee Silem. I thank you for seeing me, I am sorry that I'm a little later than others, I suppose." She gave a sheepish smile.
From the corner of the room stood a guard strapped with leather armor. Their hand's remained laced together behind them and from behind a butterfly mask they watched their queen protectively. Nilsia canted her head at the guard, then smiled to assure she was only happy to see the queen so well protected.
"As I stated in my letter, my hope was to come here and speak to you about keeping a strong alliance between Silem and the capital. I also have been approached about the idea of opening another school, but here in the capital."
She and her brother were alike in some ways, but very different in others. For one thing, Trent was far better at social situations, the smiling, the schmoozing. He seemed to enjoy it. His sister didn't enjoy it so much. Laelia rarely smiled, a byproduct of her particularly disciplined upbringing from a young age. It was a foreign expression on her face. That wasn't to say she appeared unkind. Just...neutral.
"Think nothing of it." She waved her hand at the Duchess's apology. "I appreciate you allowing me the time to settle before making your visit. There were many matters to attend to, and without a palace to entertain guests, I'm afraid I made a poor host."
Her head canted at Nilsia's proposal. "I would be very pleased to maintain a strong alliance with Silem. Silem has been New Arisalon's oldest ally and I did hope that by nature of our familial connection, that alliance could extend between the Capital and Silem as well. Your contributions to the Tyran Army were also significant. Though it is now in a different capacity, I wish to continue my pledge to offer Silem aid should you need it, and vice versa."
"But we needn't discuss the details here in this hall. We should at least sit and be comfortable as we talk." She approached them and then gestured towards a side door in the hall, which led into a sitting area with chaise lounges and comfortable high-backed chairs. A sideboard was well stocked with refreshments, which were offered to the ladies.
Once Nilsia and Moira were seated, Laelia would seat herself and continue. "A school would be welcome. An educated populace is imperative for my vision."

Nilsia understood Laelia's lack of smiles. When she first stepped up as leader, many wondered if Nilsia had the heart for her people. She proved that she didn't need to smile while leading people to peace... just power and perhaps a great mind. Moira wore a similar expression, though she did a horrible job at hiding her distaste for the capital. She eyed the room with caution, glaring a little at the guards. Nilsia cleared her throat only once to warn her daughter before giving Laelia her full attention.
"Of course, I had hoped for nothing less," she spoke of the alliance. After hearing about the shambles of Protea's crowning, Nilsia had planned on only keeping ties should the military swear to her. Once Protea's head fall, so did Nilsia's faith for this magical queen.
At the mention of the lounge room, Nil gave Laelia a wry look. "Would it be possible to have someone show Moira around the castle? I brought her here so that she may get comfortable with the capital. I would like her to get to know the world a little better... and its history." Besides, Nil knew Moira cared little about politics, but someone had to keep the girl out of trouble.
Once Nilsia was seated (and Moira should there be no escort), the Duchess jumped right into business. "Your vision.. I'm curious as to what that includes. I once worked with Queen Sapphire on the idea of a council to keep all the nations together, but as you and I know the crown has been passed far too often for anything to happen just yet. I'm hopeful for your reign."
Laelia glanced to the girl and lofted a pale brow. "Of course. My sister Verity speaks highly of you, Lady Moira. If our discussions hold no interest to you, my son Zephyr would be happy to show you around the castle." She instructed the Seneschal to find her son and have him take Lady Moira around.
Once the Queen and Duchess were alone, Laelia continued. "My vision is that of a prosperous Tyran. Progressive, industrious, educated. I want to empower the people to do great things for themselves and provide the foundation for them to do so. Schools, institutions of higher learning for those who have the aptitude, jobs. I do not want to recreate New Arisalon, but I intend to borrow a number of it's concepts."

[Moira] She spoke highly of her? It was hard to believe, seeing as how Moira knew she was being rude to everyone who came by. Moira wasn't a bad person, although she did carry around that spoiled princess look. Truthfully she found that there was a lack of respect for her house and her mother cared far too much for these... Kaliaba's that it was borderline annoying. "I think that would be lovely," she lied with a smile, glad that it wasn't little miss sunshine she was talking to. That girl knew too much... She waited outside to be shown around, the butterfly knight asking her questions while she waited.
[Nilsia] A sigh left Nilsia's lips. "I am sorry, she's just very naive of the outside world. I suppose that is partly my fault...." She she was dwelling on that fact, Nilsia gave no hint of it. Instead she pushed forward on the plans for the capital. "Yes, I agree. I've seen how New Arisalon thrives and I think many of its methods will work well in the capital. Silem has a well known school that's a little different than the rest. We started off rebuilding and reaching out to those who had no homes or jobs. Part of our school allows those without education to learn the entertainment business.. Proper arts: philosophy of the gods, story telling, theatre... it helps keeps them off the streets without having to join a caravan of random strangers. I was hoping that idea could also be implemented here."
Laelia shook her head slowly. "Raising children is difficult. It's hard to know if you should shelter them or expose them to reality. I sheltered Zephyr from the knowledge of his father's heritage and now..." Her words trailed off and she shrugged. "I understand more than you know." A rare showing of solidarity for another mother faced with the uncertainty of how to raise their child.
With that out of the way, the topic was discarded for business. "That's certainly a unique idea. I see no reason not to try it and see how it works here in the capital. The revenue it generates through entertainment would help support the school, if not eventually fund it completely."
