Once upon a time, in a world full of magical beasts, powerful wizards, and superhuman geniuses, a normal girl was born to normal parents in a normal village not far from the capital city. She had a normal childhood with normal friends and absolutely nothing spectacular happened. She grew up to be a pretty young woman with zero magic ability, below average intelligence, and simple needs.
All she wanted was to have fun and be happy, so she left her village and old life behind to become a prostitute in the capital.
There is an old saying that the gods look out for fools and babies, and Sunni's easy life lent great credence to that. Her sweet disposition and cheery nature, along with a lack of shame and a genuine eagerness to please, seemed to spark an odd generosity and fondness in others. Her room and meals in the tavern were paid for by clients who wanted to ensure she remained conveniently nearby. She often received pretty trinkets and tailored clothes, and her coin purse never ran dry.
It was a fortune blessed life. But of course, this story wouldn't be worth telling without proper drama looming in Sunny's future. So let us fast forward to the moment you've been reading this for...

It was a dark and stormy night, and Sunni was taking an evening stroll all alone along the shop fronts down the street from Wendy's Tavern. She enjoyed window shopping, and was absently spinning her umbrella while admiring the exotic goods on display on the other side of the glass.
"Hey!"
Sunni turned around towards the voice and smiled at the two men who stepped out of the alley half a block away. Both men looked as if they'd just got off work down at the fishery. Dirty breeches, stained tunics, and old boots, but it was the blood and slime smeared aprons that gave their occupation away. She'd talked with a lot of the fishery guys when they came into the tavern for a drink after work. Nice folks, hard working, they couldn't help it if they stunk. "Good evening!" she greeted cheerfully. "Isn't it lovely out tonight?"
"It's raining," the tallest of the two pointed out, giving her an odd look.
She bobbed her head in happy agreement. "It is!"
There was a beat of silence as if the men expected her to say something else. They shared a look when she didn't and just stood there with that big smile on her face. Sunni was finely dressed in the latest fashion, wearing a daisy print gown in tailored silk, delicate lace gloves, and adorned in a set of pearl jewelry that both men knew would fetch a hefty price with their buddy down at the docks. Her umbrella even had a carved ivory handle. They both grinned, coming to the same conclusion.
The tallest guy spoke again, distracting her while his partner slowly eased his way around to stand behind her. "Haven't I seen you before? Maybe near the docks?"
"Me? Oh no," she giggled, shaking her head. "I never go down there. It's stinky. I do spend a lot of time at Wendy's, though?"
"The tavern?" He leered at her and stepped into her personal space. "Now what's a fine lady like you doing hanging out in a place like that?"
"Lady? I'm not a lady!" she laughed. "I'm an escort." Sunni smiled proudly. One of her past clients had told her he didn't like it when she called herself a whore. Besides, escort was a prettier word altogether.
"Are you now..." The tall one reached out to stroke a curled lock along the side of her face. "Fancy name for a whore. Suits that fancy dress you're wearing."
Sunni kept her flinch to a minimum, not wanting to hurt his feelings. He smelled like dead fish. She was going to have to wash her hair this evening, it would take hours to curl it again. Oh well. "Thank you! It was a gift."
"Those pearls of yours too, I bet. Say... Why don't you help me and my buddy out? A free romp and those pearls, I think."
"What? No, no... It isn't nice to regift gifts."
"No?"
"No."
"What about that free romp?"
Sunni shook her head. "I'm sorry, mister, but I don't think you understand. I'm an escort, not a loose woman."
His smile slipped a notch and his eyes narrowed. "You think you're too good for me and my friend? That what you saying?"
She bit her lower lip. This was going to hurt his feelings. She hated doing that, but lying was such an awful thing to do to someone. "Well...yes."
The first blow came from behind, a meaty fist brutally connecting with the side of her head and immediately knocking her to the ground. Her umbrella flew out of her hand and slid into the gutter. Thunder rolled. Lightning spiderwebbed across the sky behind the two men laughing down at her. A heavy boot slammed into her ribs and Sunni's pain filled cry was nearly drown out by the raging storm.
Hands grabbed at her. Silk was ripped away and their laughter got louder as she tried to put up a fight.
"I prefer to just take what I want, anyway."
