At the evening tea, Victor couldn't help but find himself utterly distracted. He wanted to talk, to visit, he wanted to support Raylinn- inevitably it would be time for whatever further conversation the two were going to have to begin- and his time there end. But he had some surprise that Rosewyn just dropped the bomb. Specifically-
"I realize you both still have things to work out between the two of you. But I want you to know, Raylinn, that you are welcome in our family if that is what the two of you decide." She raised her teacup and sipped from it. "I have always been fond of you and have enjoyed watching you grow alongside my own children. That won't change."
His mother knew how to make a statement, and he knew how to have a splitting headache. It felt like thunder rumbled under his skull, and it along with the emotional subject matter, he reached out for his Mother's hand on one side and Raylinn's on the other. " I'm sorry... Excuse me." he said standing up and leaving the apricot cakes on the table between them.
" I'll catch up with you before you take the portal back- meet you there actually. " He said to Raylinn with a smile that said she'd be fine. While he didn't entirely understand what she was alluding to- he could guess- and it sounded like this was a conversation he wasn't supposed to be involved in.
" I'll see you soon as well, Mama." He said as he went to move away, withdrawing from them both and slipping out the exit into the hall.
