Trips home to New Arisalon were supposed to be filled with happiness and family. Yet all Elyn felt since her return was guilt. Seeing Lilwen again was the best thing that could have ever happened to her. She missed her best friend dearly and the twins just as much! Instead, Elyn pulled away from her friends after noticing how smitten Lilwen was to her uncle. Not that she could blame Lilwen… training under Trent was as big as training under Reign. They were some of the best mages that Elyn knew and she always aspired to be her uncle one day.
Black spires plagued her mind every night, causing her to wake up in a cold sweat. She only intended on staying a few days, leaving the guilt in her friend's hands. But days turned into two weeks of Elyn avoiding everyone and spending time in the library. She had three options: ask Trent directly and risk it being true, ask her father and cause a rift in the family dynamics, or… or see if the future changed.
Elyn peels back the sheets from her sweat covered legs. She moved to the window where the light from the moon spilled over her body. New Arisalon was so beautiful all year round, but something about the crisp autumn evening left Elyn breathless. She couldn’t let history repeat itself… the city will not be built on hundreds of innocent lives.
The young mage got herself a pack and filled it with parchment, a quill, and ink. She grabbed her wand and snuck out of People’s Palace- which wasn’t that hard since she was free to move about as she pleased. Her main concern was waking up Trent.
A portal was created outside the manor, teleporting herself to the ruins of the temple where she and Ardyn had one of their first dates. A blush crept over her cheek, glancing down at her ring before bringing her focus back on the mission at hand,
Nature was cruel to the temple, covering the old stone in leafy vines and moss. Elyn crawled under two fallen pillars and entered the temple. The only sound that came from it was the light hum of natural magic left behind. Elyn felt connected to it- she always had. Magic was in her very soul and she felt off the aura of others. But right now, what she needed most, was the find the signature of her father. She needed that room.

The mystical ruins of the Temple of Magic had shifted slightly, both in the physical and metaphysical. It appeared in that empty antechamber, that someone had passed- no. Many had passed through. An entrance had been made but then collapsed coming from a different angle into the antechamber- scorch marks could be found along the stone archway- or rather its collective pieces scattered amidst the rubble.
The floor, once even enchanted marble had deep scratches at the passing of heavy boots with spurs and spiked cleats. The marks upon the marble whose enchantment failed, showed at least a dozen such people passed through here.
The quiet of the Temple seemed disturbed, even if it was silent. The ambient magical energy seemed...diminished at first pass, then almost stained at the next. The hallway was dark, nebulous even, but at her approach it seemed that around 30 feet away, a blue flame sparked and sputtered to life inside one of the hanging lamps. The light was strained it seemed, but it cast the hall in enough faint illumination to see.

Bare feet tiptoed along the marble floor. She felt the coolness of the night against her, enjoying it. Violet hues flickered over all of the lights, letting them guide her. Elyn trusted the magic, though she knew to keep her guard up.
She missed Ardyn, her friends, her family... Ardyn knew most of the truth, but Elyn felt so alone in her struggles. She knew that she was relying too much on the idea of prophecy was dangerous, but she had to know. She had to know if their futures changed.

Storyteller: The hall came to a fork. Previously, that fork descended into a light pool of water to the left, and to the right a winding staircase at the end of the hall, a rather concealed staircase in fact. It lead to the Hall of the Avatar of Magic, Reign's dwelling- where he had served the goddess who was now her stepmother, and the Lady Valerian who had once more faded into history and the changing of the age.
Knowing which way to go was easy, both with memory, and the flickering flame ahead that once more sputtered to life.
At the head of the fork was something difficult to miss. A corpse. The body was female, around 5'9, and was wearing a heavy cuirass of steel, pauldrons, vambraces, and greaves. The body was bloated and the putrid smell was sickly and sweet- a decay that was marked by the odd fungal deposits along the skin. Strangely enough, form first glance- the body had no easily discernible cause of death.
Elyn Kaliba: Elyn didn’t express much emotion at the sight of the corpse, though it did cause her to stop for a moment. She covered her nose with the back of her hand, silently praying for the soul that lacked in strength. Elyn would not become that.... still... it was best to examine the body.
Still keeping her nose covered, Elyn stepped closer to the corpse before pulling out her wand and whispering a spell to reveal to her what happened with it. Perhaps there were traps in the temple she and Ardyn missed. Elyn was anxious, but patient to keep herself from running down the hall her father once worked in.

Storyteller: The wand for a moment was sheathed in a ghostly white radiance, and the corpse resonated with the same. The light formed the image of the body at the time of death, a face contorted in fear- then sudden realization, then death. The flesh rotted in the very same moment. Magic killed this person, and it seemed to do so with a gaze.
in the water to the left, drops could be heard- drawing Elyn's attention to what rose from it. The beast was gnarled, and humanoid only in shape- flesh covered in black splotches of nercosis and hard calcifications. Hands ended in wicked claws, clumsy but strong- and a distended jaw was filled with sharp wedge like teeth. The head was dominated by a singular wide eye that blinked once before the creature let out a horrifying hiss.
Elyn, for a moment- felt her mind open in the view of that eye, and something was plucked out. Not stolen, but known. Something secret. Her studies of dark magic with her father, revealed this as a Nothic. A twisted spellcaster who had been warped by foul magic in undeath, obsessed with secret and forbidden knowledge.
Intelligent, but also mad- it had not went to strike at her. (Picture in character art)
Elyn Kaliba: The young Kaliba watched the animations of the corpse with an arched brow. Her head tilted down at the creature, startled by the sudden appearance. She scowled towards it, slowly moving around the Nothic all the while keeping her wand at her side. She dared to take in a sharp breath before skipping along the temple hall. She followed the path of her father's magic.
Only once did she look over her shoulder and back at the body. Elyn whispered a silent prayer. Tyran might no longer have a host for the faith of magic, but Elyn did not need Shelzi or Lady Valerian there to confirm her faith.

Storyteller: Ignored, and not engaged- the Nothic did not give chase. Instead it sank back into it's inky water, and left the girl be. Down the hall- she went, until finding herself in the Hall of Mysteries- where Reign worked magic beyond that of mortal men- where the Darklight had mingled with the Avatar of Magic to great effect.
The room's entire ambience was chilled, stark, and quickly lighting up along the ceiling into the pin pricks of light looked no unlike a night sky in which not just stars were visible but other heavenly bodies. The black walls were warm to the touch and the inky substance within the stone shifted in counter to her touch. Something about the room was responding, reacting to Elyn.
In the middle of the room there rested a pedestal made of a shaft of black stone rising from the floor in stark contrast, almost like a spike erupting from earth. It looked like volcanic rock, but polished somehow. At it's precipice was a rounded basin of tarnished silver, at closer inspection covered with runic inlay- repeated in such a way that it was nonsensical. The basin- once filled with molten silver- yet cold to the touch- was empty.(edited)
[20:59] Elyn Kaliba: At the sight of the room, Elyn's lips pulled back into a grin. Not that she thought she would have trouble finding the room; it called to her often. For a moment she stood there, feeling the pulse of old magic and new move through her body. Lashes fell against her cheek as she ran her fingers along the wall.
Part of Elyn hesitated a moment as she opened her eyes once more. The empty basin that her fingers gripped at was empty and she wondered if she could even do this. For a moment she wanted to take a step back and call for her father's help. The child that Elyn was never really gone away... she idolized Reign more than anyone in the world.
"You have to work..... Please..."

[21:01] Storyteller: Silence. The catalyst for the room's enchantment was gone. In fact- the catalyst was the source of all that magic- concentrated. Bound to this place. It was gone. Nothing in it's space. For a brief moment, there was an energy in the room- a presence that brought a chill to her spine- and then nothing- as the pin pricks of lights, went out one by one and all was covered in unnatural darkness.
[21:07] Elyn Kaliba: Elyn shook her head, "no, no no!" She shook the basin violently. The dangers of her soul being so tied to magic that it tended to get out of control when her emotions got the best of her. A violent pulse of energy escaped her body and flew against the black inky walls violently. Elyn demanded that her magic worked.
She fell to her knees, still gripping the basin. "I need to know. TELL ME!" She felt her eyes burn with the threat of falling tears. Was New Arisalon in danger? Was Trent the problem?

[21:10] Storyteller: At her explosion of energy, she ignited a single sparking flare of hope, the room lurched back to life, as the lights flickered amidst the copy of the celestial bodies. In the flickering of the light, someone stood on the otherside of the basin- clad in armor- eyes were baleful pin pricks of light.
The figure stared in her direction, the room shuddering under a sudden strain- and the pillars that lined the sides began to groan. The room, from the edge furthest from her began to collapse. The temple ruins shifting under the sudden strain of magical power.
If she did not leave quickly, she'd risk being crushed.
[21:18] Elyn Kaliba: Elyn's head snapped up at the figure that stood in front of her. She slowly lifted herself up, egotistically thinking she had done something in her favour. She stared back for what felt like a long moment, only to have her attention shift to the collapsing room.
"STOP!" her voice echoed through the room and her body reacted. Expelling from her body was a small bubble of protection. Rubble bounced off it and onto the ground around her feet. She glared at the figure in front of her who kept the secrets of the future. She knew her shield would not last long, but she just needed to get a better look.
"W-who? Is this the threat? Is this the savior?" She felt her hands tighten into balls, frustrated that she couldn't remain there to figure it out. She glanced over the amour and the face, hoping to find some sort of clue before the room actually did kill her.

[21:21] Storyteller: The Face seemed obscured in shadow, but had a decidedly more aged appearance- rugged compared to Trent's eternally youthful features. If this was future, past, or even present- the Room and it's enchantments oculd not say. Even the magic of the Avatar ended, and with the Darklight essentially changed- nothing sustained this room and it's magic once it's last iota of power was spent.
That last iota of power was spent doing what any father would do. Saving his daughter.
Blackness took everything, and when light was seen- it was the pale moonlight that cast the old temple grounds in a appearance of dread and mystery. SHe had been teleported as far as it could manage.
Within the temple, stone crumbled and halls caved in under the sudden quake.
While the familiar grasp of her Father's magic felt close at hand, so did a presence that lingered for a moment and was gone. A whisper heard on the wind.
"Meddler."

[21:34] Elyn Kaliba: Elyn tried to drink everything in she could, but she was racing against time to understand who the figure was. Before she could run, darkness overtook her and dropped her right outside of the temple where she could witness its fall. The signature of magic was like a cold hand giving her shoulder a squeeze.
"I have to," she snapped at the night air. The ground around her feet shook with anger, her magic spilling out of her body once more. When the presence left her, Elyn felt alone in the cool breeze. Her arms wrapped around herself, attempting to keep her magic within.
After a few moments of standing alone, Elyn dropped to the ground and pulled out the parchment and ink. She pulled out the ink bottle, throwing the ink onto the parchment before using her other hand to circle her wand over the parchment. She closed her eyes, imaging the figure that she saw and when she opened her eyes, the ink moved along the page with ease to draw out the man she saw clad in armor.
Fingers lifted the page closer to her, staring intently at the image. Good or bad, she had her answer.
