Tyrannight’s the game
I’d like to talk about Tyran as a whole before I share all the responses of the survey we’ve asked you to complete. Although Beth and I try to continue to keep the core elements of the game that a lot of older players loved, we are not the same Tyrannights/Vamp pub… obviously, lol. I want to state that we do not claim to own the rights to the title of the game or claim that this is the true version. That is the furthest from the truth. Beth and I just continued a game that was passed down from Dawn to James, to Jess, and now us.
This is our own twist to the game people once knew a loved. YES, we want to keep some similar elements, but we have added our own twist to the game as any past owner did themselves. I understand that some come to us and say “Well, it never used to be this way” and while I do get that, we’re not that original game. We’ve changed certain things for a reason and it’s certainly not to just sit here and be bitches about it, lol. Mostly, the changes happen because like everything in life, change needs to happen in order to stay relevant.
While we want to see everyone’s home thrive, we also need to cater to new players as well to draw in people from other games. If not, then yes… Tyran will die. So there’s some information on why we run things the way we do. I hope this clears something up about the game itself and that while we’re still trying to keep a lot of what the old owners brought to the game, we are not them. We’re Beth and Jacey just trying our best.
Thanks!
How are you feeling about the current admin roles (gods and the queen?)
Results: 72.2 Yes
I’m just going to touch on the reasons that were given to us for wanting change.
There’s some confusion as to what a god role is…Admin roles are simply storytelling fodder, as I’ve said countless times before. They might have their own private stories on the sidelines, but they’re not really major IC roles. If there’s something being done by the gods IC, it’s like events for the players, not for us.
Why did we go back to Light/Dark? The last survey, before the revamp, we had an overwhelming request to go back to the old gods. Fewer gods made it easier for temple roles to fill out. However…. You also do not have to believe in any god!!! You are free to think they are just idiots and have your own religions (i.e. some lycanthropes serve the lunar goddess). We accept all religions, it’s just that the light and dark ones have interactive hosts. They are, perhaps, more physically prominent. We are also trying to move away from the original bloodlines to get away from Dawnstars original bloodline and make room for new family titles.
There was a question of what are important player roles and I think it got lost along the way that the PLAYERS make the game. Sure, the admin sort of design the story, but remember that we are a freeform game. It is up to you to decide how important your character is and if you come to admin/event runners, we can certainly help you with this! Please, please, please just DM us if you need something for IC to help you. We can show you how to gain that power you’re looking for. But here is a list of some important IC roles we NEED the players to fill. These are important roles, seriously! I cannot stress this enough that you can be as powerful as you want without needing some title of ‘god’. (considering that one admin isn’t even a god)
Temple roles: We need players to fill these roles because they are actually important. Everyone down to the messenger. Sometimes people come in calling for the god, but we actually want temple staff to answer these calls and get involved, not us. We’re the guiding forces. I’m also adding roles to the church that is in the capital.
Governing roles: Anyone who completes the land requirements are officially part of Tyran lore. As stated, we are freeform so you can play what you want, but these players who put in the effort are officially part of the land as a reward for their efforts. Reach out to the already existing kings/queens/leaders of cities to make connections with them! Usually, people who play these roles want to affect the land the best they can.
Court roles: Beth is trying to come up with a few ideas for roles involving the capital. However, like I stated before we are open to suggestions! Come to us and we will help you!
Finally, there was a comment about more people being involved with others. Unfortunately, we cannot force anyone to RP with someone, but some advice on how to get other players attention? DM them! (: Communicate. Ask to RP with them, don’t just assume. The admin are one example of people who will RP with anyone, you just need to ask. And if you want more god interaction, again, ask… although we do prefer to sort of join say the high priest player with the one looking to get information on the temple rather than the god.
Are the current rules clear enough and easily accessed?
Result: 88.9 yes
We will be making sure all staff (starting with me, Harold, and Beth) are going over the rules so they fully know and understand them. There is still a little bit of rewording we would like to do for some of them.
A reminder that if you have an issue with a player, your first step is to try and communicate with them in DM. Talk to them, don’t just assume IC actions means OOC feelings. Sometimes it’s all about miscommunication and we are all human…. We’re all allowed to make mistakes.
If there are rules being broken, screenshot and come to staff. We will help you deal with this, but if you don’t come to us, we might not know!
Harold and Beth are currently reworking the dice battle system to not take five hours. Any suggestions?
As most of you have stated, Beth and Harold are trying to lower HP and/or upping DMG. We’re trying to find a balance between making new players feel like they can stand a chance if they work hard and not letting older players feel like they can’t take pride in all the work they’ve done to get rank.
As for the couple who said get rid of dice, no. This is something that is a ‘cater to the masses’ thing and there are a lot of players who actually do like having the option between the two.
Any other suggestions can be sent to Beth or Harold. Please remember that we are freeform, so having any sort of structured system would ruin that.
Thanks for your advice!
Any other suggestions for events you would like to see?
Results: 94.4 yes for more non-battle events
Thank you all for your suggestions. We will be passing on these ideas to the events runners but feel free to either 1. Run your own or 2. Talk to them about running one.
What would you like to see more as a reward for participation in quests?
Results: 94.4 for all of the above
We will come up with more ways of including all of the listed ideas as rewards for events. It is up to the event runner on what type of reward they would like to give out, but we’re glad that you all like these ideas.
Should there be enforceable ic consequences if someone commits an offense against their character? (i.e. threatening other characters but not answering challenges made by those characters)
Results: 83.3 yes
It’s been in discussion for a while and we really think this will help balance the three rezzie rule as well. Some comments we noticed is that there’s no fear in challenging others since they can back out, or characters will taunt other characters but vanish. We will be making a rule where the first offense of this, a player can avoid an issued challenge, but if they continue, they will not be able to keep running forever.
Do you feel comfortable coming to staff if you are having an issue with another player?
Results: 88.9 yes
We encourage people to try and talk to us when you have an issue. If it’s an issue with another player, yes we want you to try and work it out on your own. COMMUNICATE. If someone takes OOC information IC, please just talk to them first, they might not realize it. If issues continue, we welcome you to speak to us.
Furthermore, you are more than welcome to block another player who you feel is harassing you. Obviously staff cannot be blocked, but if there’s an issue with another player and you even just need to let us know you don’t want to communicate with them, feel free to come to us.
Would you like to see more ic/ooc discord channels?
Results: 53.6 in favor of no OOC || 73.3 in favor of yes IC
We know that Tyran is more than just a game to a lot of us. It’s a place where we make friends and discuss RL. We’re a close knit group of RPers that have a lot of similar interests. We will revisit if needed. If there’s something you really want to see (since we didn’t ask), DM us and we will see about adding it!
On the IC side, sometimes people get confused on where play is happening… We are certainly going to discuss adding channels that might help clear up both location confusion and whether a character is nearby to overhear/see things. If you have idea's, please let us know!
Anything else you would like to talk to us about!?
Some things that were brought up that we want to touch upon: Please note that some of these issues can be resolved with communication. Do not be afraid to talk to players about what you want/don't want.
Location issue? A little confused about this, but we’re hoping the IC channels will help.
A reminder that ALL characters who perma died before Beth and I took over can come back with no issues. However, we’ve agreed that after 3 rezzies, we have to draw a line on keeping characters dead. Furthermore, if a player kills off their character and wants them to stay dead, that is their choice and we need to respect that.
Time travel to the future is not allowed in Tyran. Going to the past or revisiting old memories for your character is welcomed though. Future inventions are also not in Tyran. We’re not a historically accurate game, so I don’t get too fussy about like… toilets (Magic, lol) and sometimes people forget and say spaghetti or something… we won’t be nit picking. Even for seers, you should be careful about ‘seeing’ too far into the future…. Game play might not work out that way
Staff roles are based on a few things: rule knowledge and activity are some examples of what we look for. Inactive staff (including event runners) will be removed from that list and if needed…. Replaced.
Finally, another reminder that if you own a RPG, feel free to put it up in promote yourself and ask someone to pin it if you need us to! We are more than happy to support other games! Always have been! And we especially love it when they’re willing to help us in return (which is what the forum advertise section is about!)

Thank you again, everyone, who took the time out of their
day to be honest with us. Remember, this is just a game… we want everyone to
have fun here. We understand our version of Tyran might not be for everyone,
but we are trying our best and sometimes when we make staff choices, it’s not
to be mean. We take the input from the players and try to keep everyone happy.
