Ash drug his feet a bit getting back to The Glass Inn. Reign had kept him from his machinations for years, keeping him bound in that Codex- bound even in his own soul and flesh. He hated the man. But that damn glimmer of light that burned in his chest on occasion- it respected the man. Ash knew the fool wasn't dead. No. But Reign's sacrifice was going to cost him dearly.
He almost...mourned him.
He had a drink downstairs- without changing out of bloodied leathers. It was a demonic glamour that kept people from looking at him twice, one he let go as he climbed the steps to their room.
He opened the door and walked in, a summoned imp wiping up the trail he left until he entered the room. Couldn't be leaving trails of blood through the expensive hotel- it was just bad form. Slipping his boots off, and removing his sword belt, Ash ventured further- having given Elyn roughly a twenty-minute head start.

The moment Elyn got home, she collapsed to the floor, just sitting there lost in thought. SHe felt the splatter of blood across her cheek and hand- how long had that been there? Was she that violent in the fight that she caused him to bleed. She leaned back, lying flat on the smooth wooden floor while she tried to get the room to stop spinning.
Lilwen was crying in pain, Verity had yet to be spoken to, Shelzi was dying. But Elyn counted two good things to happen that night: Becoming friends with Lyf and finally getting her revenge. She found herself laughing just before the handle of the door turned and she pushing herself up from her lying position.
"Took you long enough." She should have taken the moment to clean up, but the rush of power still pulsed through her veins. She almost forgot the third good thing: Ash didn't die. Nothing was taken from her this time around... so she thought.
"You look..." Concern washes away all her glory as she lifted herself up to meet him at the door, reaching to shrug the jacket off his body. "I can get them to make us a bath."

" You think small, Elyn." he said as she tugged off his jacket, it had been Ardyn's. Seemingly little more than thick leathet coat, with hidden inserts of protective plate and thin layers of chain. It had seen better days, and luckily the treated leather wouldn't stain with all the blood.
In the other room, the tub was filling with water that welled up from seemingly no where, steam rising from the surface of the raising water level. Such convinient magics weren't lost on Asmodai, even if Ardyn had never taken time to learn them.
"What do you mean, I look, though?" he said with a chuckle. Ardyn didn't know how to best use his own body. Ash was significantly more adept. Few wounds could slow him down for long- his infernal power had a way of oversaturating Ardyn's body- healing nearly fatal wounds in minutes.
" Did you forget we were in a fight, lover?"

She couldn't help but smirk at his words after rolling her eyes. "Show off...." Not that, with the proper spell, she couldn't have learned, but Elyn didn't train for the every day magic. Nor was she able to just pull out magic from no where. He had power beyond hers.... and she yearned for it.
"I saw all the bodies..." In her head she know what Ash was capable of and that the bodies that attacked deserved what they got. She admired his power and the prince of revenge got her everything she needed. Yet there was a hint of fear behind her eyes. Not of his abilities, but of losing him. Everyone would warn her about Asmodai....
"It doesn't matter." She tugged him back with her to the other room, slipping out from her tarnished clothes and stepped into the tub. She avoided his gaze for the time being.

" If you have said it..." his voice grew a smidge colder by degrees, his gaze more insistent as he cupped her cheek with his hand, forcing a stare. " Then it does matter."
He followed her as they moved, only stopping once she got in the tub, blood stained robes, so little of it hers, cast upon the marble tile. Ash was not smiling, instead he almost looked concerned. Something deep in his eyes beneath the apparent surface expression.
" You shared my power tonight. Is that what frightened you?" His mark had been on her flesh, his magic her magic. It replied to her whim in those moments, not him. What she did to Gregorus, ahem- The Iron Lord (loser) had only been nudged. He knew that power wasn't what would take the wind from her sails- so she'd deny what he asked- but perhaps it would push her more to own her thoughts and share them.

Laelia told her she had yet to mourn Ardyn's loss. Was this the case? She also said Asmodai could not be trusted. But Elyn did trust Ash. She felt the connection of the powers, thrived on his own encouragement. He made her feel power she had never felt before. She also knew that power came from darkness. While Elyn was never drawn to light, she was concerned about her strong desires now.
"Your power drives me to whole new levels." She promised with a light kiss against his lips. "I'm not frightened, although I suppose there's a small part of me that does not want to lose who I am. Most of them will be disappointed- some I can handle. But I can't lose Lilwen and Verity too." She frowned, her head pounding with too many thoughts.
"I also sort of thought I would..." She sunk down into the tub, letting her hands rest in the hot water as bits of the Iron Lord's blood washed off her. "I thought I would feel better or something for Ardyn... Only I feel like the cost was too great and I don't even know what that cost was. Lilwen was hurt so bad she was crying."

" Revenge is funny, lover." He said as he ran his hand through her hair in a cherishing sweep of digits, obviously, there was a concern. After removing his trousers and what was left of his fine linen shirt, he moved to sit on the edge of the tub, legs spread just so to encourage some level of modesty and comfort, so she could for a moment- simply enjoy the bath herself.
" You pursued it tonight. Delivered it. And with it, you showed mastery over the man who thought to master you. That is important. But...Revenge isn't justice. Revenge isn't a way to even a scale. What you've lost, remains lost. What you've gained, remains yours. People suspect death to somehow begin something new. " He shook his head almost in pity of the human condition.
" Death is really just a consequence. A conclusion. As is revenge. Your next chapter will have as much mourning as it will have dancing. I will be here for both." It was a moment in which it was obvious that Ash did not, in fact, think like a human. He knew things, things Ardyn could never know, things she had never considered. Suddenly it became obvious how some of Reign's wisdom came to be. Demons could be quite insightful, having been around 'before' creation.

She leaned her back against the back of the tub, her knees pulled to her chest. Violet hues lifted up at him to meet his gaze; his concern. Elyn wasn't sure she would call it love, especially with everything that happened with Ardyn. His loss wasn't as easy as she made it seem, but it was because of Ardyn that she could call this relationship something she cherished. She didn't care that he was partly Asmodai... He was everything she needed right now.
"You're right. It's not justice... I wish I could have given Ardyn that." Her hand reached up to quickly catch any tears she felt against her cheek. "I'm sorry, I shouldn't be thinking like this. I will always have a part of Ardyn as you and you... have stilled the pain inside of me." He wasn't prince charming or some beacon of light, but Ash was a breath of fresh air none the less. In the darkness she could breathe again.
"If anything scares me now, it's what comes next. I'm not satisfied with just the Iron Lord... I want more." If it did scare her, her expression didn't show it. Her lips curled into a wicked smirk.

He leaned in against her ear, moving to kneel beside the tub- not yet joining her. His lips brushed against the curve of her ear, his arm reaching around the other side and cupping her cheek, thumb resting carefully at the peak of her cheekbone.
"There is no such thing, as Justice." It spoke in a whisper as if anyone hear the secret that might shatter. But she could know. She should know. The death of such foolish ideaologies, such myths- it was the next step to her having all that she desired.
He withdrew from her ear, raising slowly to his feet- that smoldering heat returning to his gaze. " Mourn him. Mourn the end of your journey to revenge. But know that the Iron Lord was more than just you and Ardyn. To balance the scales, as usual- takes more than death."

Despite the heat that came from the water and his own breath, Elyn shivered as he touched her. She never realized how much she craved his touch until it was happening.
Her eyes remained level with his, a blank stare remained at his words. She understood now. Nothing would ever be fair, she just needed to make the most of it. And she planned on thriving in life. She followed his gaze as he stood up, sitting on her knees in the tub. She could have worshiped that man, and she was certain he knew that.
"Then what did it take?" She was fully aware how strange it would be to her family to know that Elyn was taking lessons from a demon. But she was willing and open to learn all that he had to offer her. All those years of trying to snuff out the darkness inside of her only made its arrival that much worse.

She wasn't the first Kaliba to take lessons from a demon. The hypocrisy was that Arc had seen nothing wrong with cavorting with demons to establish the foundation of his victories in Tyran. All of them had their own skeletons...
" It took your father." He said no longer looking away. " I don't know why- but he 'cleaned up' after Shelzi and the opening to the Web she left. The Iron Lord had discovered it- and other threats were encircling it. Reign...made sure it could not be used again."
He sighed. He had not wanted to be the one. But if he witheld it now, he would be in violation of her trust- something that he didn't want to be in.
" I'm sorry." Condolences from a demon, weren't so great- but it was evident that he was trying, and that it was genuine.
" He's in the Web now. Lost to anyone, everyone. Anywhere, and everywhere. Anytime and everytime."

Elyn's ears began to ring. She wasn't sure if it was just his words, the steam from the tub, but the room began to spin again. For a moment she managed to keep eye contact with him. Part of her knew that he was truly sorry, but the rest of her didn't care.
Her body hunched forward, dripping hand griped at her hair. She wasn't fully aware that she was screaming at first. She thought it was someone else in the back of her mind, but it was most certainly her when her throat finally began to throb in pain. The water in the tub lashed away from her, as if she were in a little bubble that wouldn't let anything close to her. Not even for Ardyn did Elyn bawl her eyes out, but her father was... He was a king in her eyes. He helped shape her to be the woman she was now, even if he was trying to protect her from the demon in front of her.
When she looked up, the water came splashing down and over the edge of the tub. Slowly, she stood up, glaring at Ash with rage similar to what she felt in the pit. Elyn's hand thrusted in his direction and a large burst of energy aimed at Ash's chest. "Are you sorry, Asmodai? ARE YOU?"

Asmodai was bonded to her. Ash, bonded to her. And as the burst of energy plunged into his chest, causing fractures in ribs, and the expelling of all his air, she'd feel her ribs splinter, her lungs ache.
Bonded. She didn't read the spell. Didn't ask what all it meant- but binding a demon to your service, always had a cost.
Ash went flying back stumbling back on the marble tile, and catching himself on the doorway. Nude, battered yet again- his eyes for a moment flashed in rage- but it was but a second, before past a ravaged exhale of an agonizing breath, he looked at Elyn and smirked.
" I was. " And like that, in a flash of hellfire he was gone. A moment of clarity, and she'd remember he'd be close at hand. Where else could he go? But Ash didn't want to be her punching bag- possibly because she might not survive. Arriving at the Temple of Evil, his focus split between her ailing psyche and mourning- he returned her to the source to recharge.

Elyn welcomed the pain to her chest. She knew the cost- knew what sort of bond she was getting into. To hurt him meant that she could feel the pain she wanted to feel. It was her fault, even if he said he was cleaning up after Shelzi. She helped put her father there and now she would never see him again.
Every breath she took caused her to wince, but she refused to remove her glare.
"Come back here, Asmodai! Don't you DARE leave me!" But all the shouting and walking caused her to fall upon the bed. She wrapped one of the sheets around her, letting the tears escape her. The more she cried, the better she felt. The loss, the anger, the pain... It all came out on the pillow and she began to feel better.
~I'm so sorry....~ She hoped Reign could hear her. She wasn't sorry for everything, she knew that. Ash was important to her, she had no regrets with him even if she was angry. But she wished she could have done more- give him reason to have faith in her.

Turning amidst the pillow, something crinkled and crumpled underneath.
My Dear Daughter,
By now, you've returned from your adventure. No, your crusade. I hope you've learned how empty it is. Even the Prince of Revenge didn't feel the need to avenge himself against Shelzi..... Revenge is a tool. It's important. It ends a season, my sweet Elyn. I am both sad and proud that you have pursued it, and no doubt achieved it.
The Iron Lord was a relic you know. Of Sin. Laelia's indulgences for Mordred, made our Father leave the realm unprotected. For once, Kaliba family affairs took precedence over our responsibilities. I don't think anyone can be blamed for it. But in the end, it was Laelia's sin, Grandfather's Sin, and even my failures with Shelzi- that brought this along. Shelzi is no proper Goddess of Magic- too swayed she is by it. But I took my job as Avatar very seriously. More than once, I pulled her from the brink. To be fair- Asmodai did his part as well before She banished him. Shelzi has done many things to balance her account, but just as I paid my debts, she will soon finish paying hers.
I'm sorry I've been distant. Sorry I couldn't help Ardyn- I tried. And I don't hold a single judgment for you, my daughter. I've talked with Shelzi, and we think your path is your own- and while you would've ended up no different than Kieran without the acts I took long ago- you are not without a soul.
I suspect, neither is this "Ash" now. Be careful. But Shelzi has paid some of my price for this, Ardyn always liked Apricot Cookies.
Enjoy your life, my daughter. Pursue the heights and endure the lows that will always pursue you. I wish you could have the 'simpler' life you once wanted. But it was never in the cards for you, just as it wasn't for me.
I did what I did, to ensure that no one got the Leyline. No one got the Web. No one can use it without disastrous consequences. Even Grace, born to it- lacks volition. No concept of good or evil. She views the world as if it were her private theater. The Web is a cosmic power the Gods shouldn't touch, much less those who would see it and wish to change the world.
Because that mission would end in being trapped amidst the web.... you have to understand, I wouldn't let you pay the price for Shelzi or for me. As Avatar of Magic- it was my job. My decision. One I made long before Shelzi's madness. Long before you and I ever met.
When time has passed, I've ensured other letters will come to you. Despite my position- I have to believe this is not goodbye. I love you.
Your Loving Father,
Reign Kaliba

Elyn read the letter over and over again until she was no longer crying as she read it. Reign always took care of her and Elyn never doubted it for a second. She was still sorry she couldn't do more for him, but that was just how life worked. She finished her revenge and would leave it all back in the temple of magic ruins. Maybe she would use the 'tool' to get something later on- the letter did not change her ambition, just her pain. However, for now, she relaxed.
Elyn wrapped the sheet around her like a cloak and stood in the middle of the floor. "Ash.... Please come back to me." Her eyes red from crying and her throat hurt a little, but she wasn't in as much pain with Ash lingering in the temple. "Please." she said again.
Ash didn't put her father in the web, Reign did. Elyn just wanted someone to blame for all the loss that happened and was about to happen. Shelzi was on borrowed time as well. Both of them would remain in her heart. Elyn would not give that up; she would not give up love. That was what made her different from her cousin. The darkness might have been her place of glory now, but she would not lose sight of who she was.

He emerged from the bathroom, clean and washed. Perhaps he had done so in the Temple baths, but after giving her that time he returned. He had no wounds, once more- and wore a black linen wrap around his waist that hung a couple of inches above his knees.
" You never have to ask twice. You just have to ask." He said with a quieter than normal voice. He felt the pain- understood it and he really didn't want to consider just how much she had experienced.
He didn't say anything else, as he approached her, his arms sliding around her form as he settled behind her. His embrace was close, warm- his lips brushing along the curve of her ear. " I am sorry. Your father, played a masterful game. I take no joy in seeing him taken from the board. "

"I felt like I owed you a second please." She wrinkled her nose, holding his arms against her and leaning back against his chest. "I'm sorry too.... Sometimes I forget what he's done. I idolized him far too much at times that I didn't believe he has flaws. He makes his own choices. Just like I've made mine."
The fact that he was sorry warmed her heart, while his touch warmed her body. She slowly turned around, lifting her arms up to wrap them around his neck. The sheet fell back when she did, leaving her body bare.
"You will be honest with me, yes?" She didn't wait for his reply. "Besides the bond, what do you want out of this? What do you want from me?" She glanced back at the letter on the bed. "I fully expected my family to warn me about you," she paused to give him a coy smirk, "but I have to know... You are Asmodai- I am the daughter and family member to a handful of your own competition. I'm not sure what is to become of us, but I want to know what you think, if that's okay."

His hand reached to cup the rear of her thigh, lifting it up to rest at his waist, the two of them nestled close together. " I do not have competition."
It was a statement of poignant reminder. Lesser demons got married- had little families and played house. Lesser demons might submit to such human ideas. But Asmodai? Asmodeus was a demon lord. He didn't have foes- because he would last forever. Even what Shelzi had done would not destroy him forever. Even the death of this body- would not be eternal. Asmodai simply didn't view the Kaliba's as something he'd want to destroy- when half of them were so keen on destroying themselves.
According to the chatter, even Arc would die sooner or later. For good.
But that only addressed the last part of her query, and to explain the rest- he had to admit something that might hurt.
" I don't know, what I want from you. That wasn't really part of the deal, when Kieran pulled this part of me from the endless multiverse. He plucked a part of me, shattered from what I was- and he put it in this body- bound to you- a desecration of your Father's previous wards and sacrifices."
" I can admit that I am fond of you. That....that I love you, I think. The emotion is foreign to me." " I can be honest and say that I am very happy you are mine- and I enjoy being yours. Perhaps, love is too..." His face for a moment squinted in disgust. " Human an expression. Limited. Reductive. "

She arched a brow at his retort. No competition? Well... He wasn't wrong, she could give him that much. The sting of thinking about her family was hard, but she swallowed it. Maybe as Asmodai he didn't, but now he was Ash. She wasn't sure how the summoning worked with this body, but at least for now he would need to adjust.
The word love made her flinch. She was scared of it ever since she lost Ardyn. How could she ever love again when lust was so easy and Ash was so very good at it. She found herself giving out a small laugh, pressing the palm of her hand against his cheek.
"You don't have to tell me you love me or even love me at all. I'm not sure what I feel for you, but I do know that my family warning's mean nothing to me. I will be careful- I'm not yours to use as a pawn." She didn't think he wanted her for that, but she liked the idea of making it clear. In fact, Ash was the only one to give her the power to take what she wanted. "But you have all of me now, Ash. I thought that my purpose was to kill the Iron Lord and move on and I would feel much better, but I know now that I'm wrong. Out of all this pain, I've got you. Maybe we don't love each other- maybe it is such a human expression. Maybe we're more."
She reached down to unwrap the cloth around his waist, dropping it behind him. Her eyes flared with a need to be reminded of whatever it was they shared. "Didn't you say earlier... something about dancing with the mourning?" She laced her words with innuendos. "I think i'd like to dance now." She lifted herself up to the tips of her toes and kissed him with need.

He was pleased with her response, and as her kiss fell away from his lips curled in a small smile. Elyn had gone from grief and rage to arousal. She was far more dark inclined than she realized. This was not the way to sort through feelings- thorough thoughts. But it was the best way, in his humble opinion to bury them for later. Or for good.
The wrap was easily undone and underneath he was as naked as she, his hand raising to cradle the back of her head, insistent in his yearning kiss in return. He was hungry. Plenty of violence tonight. Satiated in bloodshed- he would need to find some further satisfaction with this other pursuit.
Once more he lifted her hip with his grip at the back of her toned thigh, his grip would leave prints of course, reminders to her human flesh of who kept her, and who would claim her. So high he lifted her hip and moved at her frame, that the leg still at the floor barely touched as he moved her towards their bed.
His steps were broad, but he paused at the foot of the bed. He had taken many initiatives, and in her hunger... it was time he see what all the formerly demure Elyn had learned.
"Yes, of course. We're more." He said with some finality, his eyes roaming her form. " And yes. Of course, you do. Lead. "

Elyn reveled in the pleasure. She felt her body press and relax back into the bed. She couldn't help but keep her body close to him. Her legs relaxed, but they never fully untangled from his body. Lips lingered against his, whispering that she loved him, even if it was a human trait. She couldn't deny it.
"Thank you for dancing with me tonight." The innuendo was there, but it was minor compared to the adoration in her voice. "Ash I... I thought I was just giving Ardyn new purpose when Kieran came to me, but I don't think that anymore. It's you who's mine. And maybe I did give him a new purpose or something and maybe I'll soon have to pay a great price for what I've done, but I wouldn't take it back. A lot of my family... they're not going to like this. I'm not overly concerned, but I suppose I'm just trying to say that I'm glad it's you." She wrinkled her nose at how sappy she sounded. It felt strange to say after all the loss she faced recently, but it was the truth.

At her whispered declaration his lips once more formed a smile, warm- not self satisfied, and he said just once, " I love you." As his body melted into relaxation, and as he slowly shifted as she spoke her peace. He moved from his position atop her but did not leave the entwined position, shifting to the other side of her body, arms ensuring she stayed in his embrace.
He listened carefully- and while her justifications, her thoughts on the process could change- he knew that what she did, she did out of desperation. Out of love lost- as much as any darkness in her heart. Not that he could, he wouldn't judge her. But further to that, he was impressed, she would stand by him as a person- instead of the magical creature he was. It was another thing Elyn did, that regardless what came to bear- he wouldn't forget.
" I promise I'll be on my best behavior. And I won't kidnap Verity again. "

Elyn curled herself up against him, the heat from his body and their intimacy keeping her warm in the winter night. She let her mind go over her words, satisfied with what she said. She couldn't make too many promises to him, but she could at least let him know she was there for him.
Her fingers lace with his own, idly stroking the back of his hand.
"Yeaaaa....." A sideways glance paired with a smirk was given. "That was probably your first mistake with her. She's who I worry about the most. Verity is... well, to call it what it is, the ball of sunshine isn't someone who can understand the dark. But I love her dearly and never want what is happening between my grandfather and uncle to happen with her and I. It would kill me. I know that we might have to fight on opposite sides at some point in our life, but I hope that it won't be this bad."

" Is it that bad now? " He asked, curious to that. "Arc hasn't moved against Trent. Trent hasn't moved against Arc. I don't imagine you guys had a winter solstice meal- but..." He closed his eyes for a moment, not tired- but intent to hold her. To enjoy stillness for the rest of a cursed evening.
" It will be what it is. You cannot let your friendships or family stop you from happiness. And I doubt Verity will. Despite all her light- she'll understand you- even if she doesn't understand your path. The girl has strength of character..."

"No.... but admittedly I hated that he threatened my father and Shelzi. I have a feeling that if Arc moves at all, Trent won't let him get very far. Besides, my relationship with Verity is different from how my grandfather views his children and grandchildren."
She tried to accept that everything will be how it is, but that wasn't Elyn. "You're right about one thing... I won't let them stop me from what I want. I just hope that we can do better than the generation before us, even though we make the same mistakes." She laughed at the irony of the situation.

" You should talk to him. Trent I mean. " He said with a shrug of his shoulders. " I imagine the two of you might not be so diffeent in that regard. As for the new generation- I can't judge. Time will tell if they were cautious or cowardly, ambitious or just greedy. "
" The family has split. But it was always going to be that way. Balance. What a crock. In the universe, we are all playing for a team. Especially if we don't think we are."

"I plan on speaking to him, I"m just not sure I'm quite ready. I have some things to think about." There wasn't much, but she needed to also work things out with Lilwen. They seemed off still, but Elyn wondered if that was because she knew about Reign. She winced, moving on from the topic.
Instead of focusing on that, she gave Ash a playful pout. "But what if I don't want to pick a side?" She couldn't hold in her laughter. How did she feel so relaxed around him?
"We should also go back to the temple at some point. Kieran will be there soon and something tells me that being with a demon comes with a price..."

" I recommend Azramore. When the Temple is a part of our lives... it will not release us easily. Kieran won't be there until after the corronation and wedding. Rumor has it he's training with Baracus and his nanny is fucking the goddess. "
" If we meet him there...we may end up meeting everyone else instead." As much as the Temple had for him, he wasn't in a rush for her to be too exposed to that at once... there is a difference between being corrupted, and being warped.
Kieran, was the Prince of Hell. The Prince that was Promised- a demon who was 'native' to the matieral plane. In the hierarchy of hell, he knew the kid outranked him. It wasn't the kind of thing Ash liked to think about, and thanks to an apricot cookie- Ash couldn't get it out of his mind.
