*Mykal stood on the battlements and watched the sentries as they stood their post. His hands were clasped behind his back, and was as still and silent as a statute. The Fida'i were staring out into the darkness, intently searching for any possible threat that may present itself to the mountain fortress.
He knew this task, although simple in appearance, was anything but. The silence, the stillness, the solitude could allow an unfocused mind to wander. A wandering mind equaled death. If not from whatever threat may come from without, then certainly from the instructors within. Very few were admitted into training to become one of The Brotherhood, even fewer survived.
A sudden movement to his right caught his attention, it was another one of the students, the Russian Natalia, she showed promise he mused as she approached with sure quick steps. He inclined his head as she stopped and bowed before presenting him with a small scroll before stepping back and clasping her hands before her, and keeping her ice blue eyes locked on him. Waiting...
He broke the red wax seal with a simple flick of his thumbnail, and unfurled the scroll and began to read the elegant script. His face betrayed nothing, he rolled the scroll back up and tucked it within the folds of his robes. *
"Natalia... what is the height of the peak to the left?"
*Natalia thought for a moment, she knew it would be better to simply admit not knowing rather than give a false answer, the only question she had was what the punishment would be. She raised her chin defiantly, and answered in a calm, neutral tone.
"I was instructed, but I do not recall sir..."
*Mykal nodded once, and then responded in a low measured tone.*
"Then I suggest you climb it, and take note of your steps... for they will give you the correct answer. And you better hurry dear Natalia, the sun will be rising soon."
*He then pivoted neatly on his heel, and headed into the mountain itself, and prepared himself for his long journey into the deepest part of the mountain to meet with Al-Ashrad, the Amr of the Brotherhood. He who walked with the founder of their clan, Haqim himself. He was one of the first brought into the fold by Haqim.
As he walked he gave one last thought of Natalia, he sincerely hoped she would make it back, and would have the correct answer. She did show promise after all...
