Jason looked again at the letter from his brother. He shook his head and looked at the world worn woman and her children in front of him. How was he to find a place of them? Everything was still in such disrepair and Edward was almost never home. Instead he sends a letter, for all the world sounding like he was the older brother rather than the youngest. He looks at the refugees and says: "Well, up to the house with you. Our sister Katherine will get you settled until we can find more permanent arrangements.
He didn't mid the extra bodies. They were needed if Edward's grand plan to make everything "better than it has ever been". He just wished it was more than women, children, the aged and infirm. but then what did he expect from Edward, the man always did have a soft heart. A merciless and mercenary mind, but a soft heart. Oh, there were a few men, refugees, beggars and out of favor guardsmen. The were pretty, universally grateful for the chance to have a fresh start with a guaranteed home, job and security. He imagined they all would be fiercely loyal. Still, he just wish Edward would give him better material to work with in restring it all and building the village.

Katherine Teach, next youngest and closest confidant of her brother, looked at the woman and her children. They were a mess. Dirty did not begin to describe them. She knew she could fit anyone else in the servants quarters, until the carpenters got back in there. Edward sent her, like all the rest. Every woman, child and oldster that he comes across. Her brother was just too soft-hearted, she loved him the more for it, but too soft-hearted all the same. Well, she would settle this woman and then see if she had any useful skills. She leads the woman and her pack of children up through he manor house and to the lesser guest quarters. Opening a door to the rooms inside she says, “We will have to put you in here till we can figure out what other arrangements can be made. I know its a bit dusty and moldy, but it will have to do.” The woman quickly speaks up, “I will have in good order for the next who will be using them.” Katherine, continues as if she were not interrupted; “Dinner will be in a couple of hours -ish. We still need to find a Housekeeper.” The woman looked up with a start. “Pardon, mistress, I have experience. My last employer died in an attack from his neighbors, 'tis how my Jerry died, tis is. He defended his liege clear up ts the last.” Katherine looked at her again, as if seeing her for the first time. “Lady Katherine”, Katherine said absently. An experienced Housekeeper, huh?” This certainly changed things. “What's your name?” “Gretchen, mi Lady” she replied with a slight curtsy.” “We'll try you out. Take your children down to the Manor school in the lesser parlor and report to the sensachal. He will fill you in on your duties and comportment. He will provide you with uniforms as well.” Katherine stood there a moment looking at her with a considering look in her eyes before turning on her heel and walking out.

Gretchen stood in the Great Hall over seeing the evening meal. She had sent her children on to the school. Imagine that! A school for commoners, servants even! She found the sensechal and he give her a general rundown of her responsibilities. Nothing she had not done before, but was surprise at how casual he was with the Family and there given names, even if they were not there. She managed to give her rooms, rooms!, a good cleaning and review the other servants. She found most of them were like her. Women, down on their luck, some with children, some without. Almost none had husbands or were widowed like her. There were a surprisingly small number of men, except the few husbands, grown children, devoted vassals and sailors from down at the dock. She had seen that too, the tri masted ship.
She couldn't believe how she got here. Penniless, dirty and dispirited, she had a sick child. Her girl needed a Healer and she had no money. She had sworn she never would stoop to that level, but her girl sick, her children hungry, sleeping out in the alleys? So she steeled herself, washed her face and body as well as she could in the collected rain water. Straighten her clothing, well, made it straighter nd walked out into the street, looking for a likely but decent looking man.
She approach a couple but was rebuffed, knocked down by one. That's when he appeared, squatting and offering her his hand. She took it, looking up into his face. He looked like a noble savage, but with a kind smile and knowing eyes. She was immediately warmed his eyes. But then her purpose came back to her and she hated herself for doing it. Doing anything that would lower herself in the eyes of a man with such kindness. Yet, her children needed what only money could buy. Taking a deep breath, she asked if he needed any company for the night. His eyes turned sad as he looked at her. After a few moments in a soft, caressing baritone he asks, “Woman, why are you doing this? What brought you to this juncture?” She didn't know why, but she just started talking and talking and talking. She told him everything and let him hold her when she cried. She had thought she had no more tears left to cry, but he just wiped them away with his thumb.
Then the most remarkable thing happened then. He stood up and asked to show him to her daughter, that he might be able to help. She objected she couldn't pay him, unless he would take.... He said in a short voice. “Woman, did I ask for payment? I maybe able to help her, but my way of healing is, different. I will have to have some forbearance and a little trust.” At this point she was willing to do anything, say anything, believe anything, if it would save her daughter. She led them to the alley they were sleeping in.
He got there and saw the conditions A look of anger crossed his face. Then he visibly calmed himself. He walked over to the girl. She couldn't have more than five or six. He looked up at the woman and reminded her, “I need your forbearance and a touch of trust.” She waved him on. He tenderly picked to girl up and held her. Then he kissed her; like a man kisses a woman. She was shocked into inaction. Then she shook her stupor off and started to move forward. She couldn't believe her eyes. What did he think his was doing? Before she took her third step, he released his kiss and looked up to her. Sorrow in his eyes, but not the sorrow a healer has when delivering bad news. He handed the girl to her and said, “Give it two or three minutes.” She didn't know what to think. He seemed like such a nice man... After a couple of minutes of looking to her daughter and staring back to the man she saw it. Her daughter's color improved, fever broke, breathing eased and her chest sounded clear. She looked at her mother and smiled, snuggling closer into her arms. She looked at the man and asked, “How?” He looked away and answered, “Does it really matter?” She shook her head. He looked at her and said, It was just a chest infection. Oh, without treatment she might have died, but a simple fix. Gather you children and come with me.” Shocked she asked with out thinking, “But I thought you said you weren't asking for payment.” Then she caught herself and stood straighter and said, “Oh, course, anything you want, sir.” He was shaking his head before the first words were out of her mouth. “Have I asked for payment, woman?” Looking down and away from him she shook her head no but murmured, “No sir, not yet, but it is yours anything you want of me.”
Disgustedly he turns and walks to the mouth of the alley and waits. She was confused, but did as he asked, she owed him a little faith after all. In silence he led her to a rooming house, a nice rooming house, perhaps the best in the city. She bulked at he gates. He looked over his shoulder at her, “Well, come on.” She reluctantly moved forward. Entering the reception hall was like stepping in to a fairy tale. He walked up to the man on duty and order another suite, with three rooms, and a meal large enough to feed and army to be sent up to his suite.
She stood just staring at the man until the concierge cleared his voice and said, “My Lord, perhaps your servants would feel more....” He got no further before the man threw a sack of coins at him. “You have my orders.” he said gruffly. The concierge just bowed and said, “Of course, My Lord. The suites are this way, across from the hall from your own, in fact.” The man followed the concierge and motioned his head for her to follow. She did, bewildered.
At the door of the suite the concierge said the food would be up to his suites shortly and he hoped his lordship found everything to his liking. The man waited till the servant was gone and looked at her. “Get settled. I got you three rooms. One for the boy, one for the girls and one for you. When you are situation, come across and eat.” He turned and walked into his suite.
She was just too numb. She herded her children into the suite and set to washing faces and hands, getting them as clean and presentable as she could. Finally she went with them across the hall and knocked. “Come” was the response, so she tentatively entered. At first she was horrified at her children's manners, but she couldn't hold out long and feel to as well. She noticed he wasn't eating but still smiling. After they were all sated she looked up at him, confused. “Why are you doing this for us?” He smirked and replied, “Why not?” Nodding to her children he said, “Attend to your little ones. There will be time enough for talk later”. With stomachs full, they were getting lethargic. She herded them back across the hall.
In her suite she stripped her children and shooed them to bed. Using some of the water in one of the was basins, she washed all their clothes and finally her own. She then washed her self as well as she was able in the circumstances. Clothes wet, standing in only her shift, she again steeled herself and walked acoss the hall and knocked on the man's door. He answered, stripped down to just his breeches. At least he was easy on the eyes she thought to herself. She reminded herself she wasn't to bad looking either, now that she was clean and the fever of hunger was gone from her eyes. “What can I do for you? I thought surely you would be abed by now.” She looked away from him and said in a quiet voice, “I... I am here to share you bed.” He looked at her for a long time and finally asked in a soft voice, almost a whisper. “Do you want this or do you feel you owe me this?” In answer she slumped her shoulders. Why was he making this so hard? No man was ever really this good. She looked up in surprise when finally he said, “No. Not because you feel obligated. If YOU wanted to shard my bed, that would be an entirely different matter, but as you do not, than No” She could hear the capital in the last word. Lost for words she stood there stuttering. Eventually he offered her a brandy and a seat. He said more gently if ever you decide you want to do this, for you, come to me. Not before then.” A while later, after she had collected herself, she returned to her rooms, not knowing what to feel.
The next morning he gave a purse and directions to his home. It wasn't until after she left that she realized he never asked her name, or gave his. That's where she found herself. Calling herself back to the present she stepped up to the high table. A very very big high table to accommodate all the Lord's siblings. All the chairs full with one notable exception, the high seat. Without the Lord or a Lady in residence it feel to any of the siblings to formally begin the meal. The last to arrive and thus the one to begin the meal, was Lady Katherine. Raising her glass she motioned to the empty chair, “To our Lord, my brother Edward. We wish a quick return from his travels.” There was a hearty “here here” and the meal began. Soon she was lost to her duties.

Katherine sat at the high table watching everyone, missing her brother Edward. She smiled to Gretchen, the new Housekeeper, glad to have this gem delivered to her. She saw her brother Peter at the far end with his intended. Maybe in a few months they will be betrothed. She wondered if Edward would ever settle down. She'd like to meet the woman who could manage him. Pure chaos in a jar that man. She brought the wine to her lips. Thinking of marriages and pairings only served to remind her that she was “ruined” by contemporary standards. Their neighbor's son thought, thought that being a destitute noble meant same as common. He took her while she was out walking the vineyards. He secreted her away in his family keep. Every day for months he came to her room, her cell in truth, and threatened to …. take her the next day. She didn't know when he would have actually done it, but she had no doubt it was coming. Then one day the world shook and the very stones of the keep came out from the walls.
The winds howling in a thunderous way, it felt like what she had always heard those, tornadoes, were supposed to be like. As the blocks began to fall from the outer wall of her room, that's when she saw him. Her beloved Edward. Her little brother, death walking the earth. When he finally saw her, she saw, and this she still can't believe, the earth itself swelled under him and lifted him to her. He didn't say a word, just swept in and swept her up in his arms. When they left, there was not a stone left on top of another stone and everything else was burning. That's the first time she realized he was … different.
It might have been easy for another to fear him, whatever he was, but she could not. He was still Edward, her little Edward, her baby brother. Even though it took him days, he carried her back the whole way, three leagues cradled in his arms. The only thing he said was to ask if she had been harmed in anyway. Somehow he could not meet her eyes. She assured him not, though she knew just being in another man's home unchaperoned ruined her. She never dimmed in his eyes though. Finally they were home. He called all the family together and found out that grandfather died of the shock of her kidnapping. All her brothers too afraid to come for her. Oh how he railed against them, they thought he might actually do harm, but no, he was Edward. He announced that he was taking the mantle of Lordship since his brothers were not suitable. For a moment she thought they might argue, but then she saw them slowly turn they eyes down in acquiescence.
It had been years and all was well, except he was gone so much. Oh, she heard the rumors, special gifts for the girls who took a night or three in his bed. The plague, the plague was the worst. All those people dead and Edward come back, torn up about his people. He went into the sick rooms, he found the medicine to heal the people. She never had and never would believe those lies about immoral acts to make a pact for their health. He was a smart man. He was a healer. At least they got the Savior Festival right and dedicated it to him, even if it was because of belief in all those detestable lies about congress and the seed of life flowing from him and all that nonsense. Even if it was true, he was her Edward and she missed him, she wouldn't care if he had really slept with every woman in a 1 000 leagues and made deals with criminals. He was her heart. She knew there was no marriage for her now, could never be. Ruined. There was only Edward and he always saw her with the eyes of his childhood. They were the two closest in age, still children when the others were grown or teens.
She was suddenly recalled back to the the present when she heard the knife against glass. Peter and his intended, Vivian, rose. He looked around and said, “My friends, my family, my people, it gives me great pleasure to announce that the Lady Vivian and I are formally betrothed.” There was the required congratulations and toasts. “It only grieves me that my brother, Lord Edward, could not be here to share in our joy. Be assured, he is off securing the very best for our people.” He sat. Well, he saw what he wanted and went after it, she'd have to give him that. She was happy for him, but still she missed Edward. Oh, Edward, please come home soon.

Her name was Maggie and she was a whore. Well, courtesan, and not anymore; still, she knew who she was and where she came from. So, she was a whore, a very good whore, but still a whore. Now, she was chambermaid to the Roseshire House. Who would have thought? What noble would take a whore in and beyond that give them such a position of trust. Oh, she knew what people thought of her and the Lord, why she was really there, but they were wrong. His Lordship had never touched her in that way, not even when she offered. It was a wonder. He knew what she was and said no, because it would feel too much like a business arrangement because that was the only way she could understand such things at that point in her life.
She had been in the capital, in the shopping district, and looking at fabrics. She had been a well thought of courtesan in her time, but that day there was a new merchant in the square. The man was a failed priest. He saw her and heard the stories and then jumped up on a wagon and started shouting about immorality and the ones doing the dark gods work and bringing down good citizens. He pointed at her, she had not felt so shamed since she first became a whore. She tried to escape the square, but she had been crowded in and finally collapsed in tears.
His Lordship was there. He started to move to her, bodily throwing people out of his way. He squatted down and took her hand and whispered in her ear, “It will be alright, girl.” He pulled her up and took her in his arms, protecting her from the glares and stares of the mob. The crowd had almost dispersed and they were moving on when the ex priest jumped down from his cart and ran after them shouting about the whore and her fool. Living an immoral life and serving the dark gods. Then in mid-word he was just quiet. She looked up and saw that his head was gone and the body slumping to the ground and the Lord's sword dripping with blood. He bent and cleaned the blade on the man's clothing. Standing again and taking her back in his arms he walked her home.
When they got to her small house she thanked him and invited him in, let him know he was welcome to her hospitality, all of her hospitality. He came in and sat and talked for a long time. He turned down her offer of her bed and instead asked if she liked what she did. She didn't know how to answer. Finally she said it was necessary, that she had to eat. He looked sad and got up to leave, half way out the door he stopped and looked back to her and asked, “And if it weren't necessary to feed yourself and make your living?” Her eyes welled with tears again. He nodded to himself and left.
The next morning he was outside her house with two wagons, one loaded as a traders wagon and one empty. He called out to her; “Girl, girl!” shaking his head he tried again, “I'm sorry girl, I did not ask your name. Come out.” Stepping out in her shift and rubbing sleep from her eyes she said, “Maggie, sir. What can I do for you? This is really late for me, or really early.” Then she woke enough to recognize him and started. He nodded with a jerk, “Maggie, let's pack your home quickly, I am taking to Roseshire.” In a stupor she just stared at him, finally asking, “Why would I move to a place I never heard of before with a man I just met yesterday?” He looked at her a moment. The kindness in his eyes made her want to melt into the earth for her crudeness. “So you can live somewhere you don't have to ply your current trade and no one knows you.” After a seeming eternity his words sunk in. She nodded, but unable to move, overwhelmed by the enormity of it all. He just got down from his wagon and walked past her, cupping her face in his hand as he passed and began packing her home into the empty wagon. She finally started moving, not able to explain it, but not questioning it either. She packed her home and scant possessions into the wagon. She burned all her bedding and some of the clothes she most associated with her former life.
They traveled together for over two weeks. In towns he always got two rooms and when camping set out two bed rolls. She offered herself to him again, several times in fact, but kept saying no. He would not sale his help and would not buy her favor with common decency. That's the first time she heard him explain that she had to learn to think of her self as something else and that she had to see the act of love as something other than just coin to be spent. He was pleasant, nice and kind the whole journey. The finally they arrived at Roseshire, that's when she learnt he was a Lord for true. He turned her over to her sister Lady Katherine who got her settled and placed her as a chambermaid. It was not the most prestigious job in the Manor, but she was too happy to make beds and not use them.
She had to reconcile herself to something else. She didn't know how or even when it happened, but she had fallen in love with Lord Edward. She knew it was foolish and hopeless. There were scores of women here he brought in from desperate situations. But she couldn't help herself, he loved him. Oh, she would never never voice the words, especially not to him. She suspected Lady Katherine suspected if not down right knew. If she did she never made anything of it, but she noticed that every time he was home she was assigned to him personally. He had never touched her, even when she let it be known to her, subtly he was welcome to her.

Alfred watched them all come and go from his room off he foyer leading to the great doors. Old, he was old. He had seen a lot in his years and done a lot, never thought he'd end up where he was now or where he was before he got here. He had been a beggar in the capital. No one ever starts out wanting to be a beggar. He was a solider, all his life for 38 years, then one day he was told he was too old and put out. He tried making a living, but there are not many opportunities for someone who only knows how to kill. So he found himself on the street begging. Months of it, when some kids, punks , started throwing rocks at him. He had been so hungry he didn't have to strength to get up and chase them away.
A bluff young man came storming down the street and picked them up by the collars and cast them further down the street. He came the the old man and offered him a hand up. “Well, I guess there's no point chasing them off if you die of hunger anyway old fella. Come let me buy you a meal at least.” But it hadn't been just a meal He listened carefully as Alfred had told him his life story. Alfred talked through lunch and all the way to dinner. His Lordship just listened, attentively, but quietly. When Alfred finally run down the Lord asked if he wanted to sleep on a pallet in his room. Alfred was proud, but had been outside so long, he accepted.
The next morning His Lordship gave him a small purse and instructions. How to get to Roseshire and to see his brother Lord Jason when he got there. Smiling he asked him if he still remembered how to march. So Alfred came to Roseshire and found Lord Jason who upon looking at him dismissed him as being useless for the hard work of building down in the town and sent him to Lady Katherine. She was a lot like His Lordship. She sat and listened to his whole story and asked if he knew what a Porter was. He thought he did, but wanted it explained to be sure. “A Porter”, she said, “is someone who monitors the main door. You'd have a room right off the foyer and you would be responsible for deciding who was safe to enter the Manor or not. You would announce guests and visitors and send runners for important matters and take all messages and correspondence.” His eyes grew wide. He had expected some make work position and a kind smile for taking care of him, but no. This was a real position of real merit and important too. With tears in is eyes he knelt down on one knee and swore himself to the Lady Katherine, but warned her he didn't have the knowing of his letters. She smiled at him and promised to teach him herself.
So now he watch the comings and goings, with his grammar primer in his lap. He would please the Lady Katherine, he would.

Sammie saw the flurry of activity, getting ready for the Blooding ceremony. She never had such. Think of it a ceremony to celebrate a girls first moon blood. Father would have killed her first. He almost did kill her.
She was just 14 and father was so angry at her for getting with child, never mind that it was his. He chased her all through their village beating her with a stick of firewood. He did succeed in beating the child from her womb. He finally cornered her between the tavern and the stables, striking, striking striking. Until he wasn't. As she looked up she saw the blade of a sword sticking out of his chest. A big man stood over him drawing his sward free and wiping it off on her father's clothing. The man looked down at her and reached down with both hands and pulled her to her feet. She was near insensate as he led her to the tavern and up to his room, speaking to the matron, ordering a bath readied and some one to go fetch some clean clothes from the girls house.
He walked her into his room and set her down on his bed and started looking at her injuries, cursing under his breath. As the tub and hot water was brought in he ordered the setting up of everything. Finally when the bath was ready, he reached up to her shirt and stopped. halting half way reaching her. He shook his head and let his hand drop. He looked at her with a conflicted look on his face. He stood up and walked to the door. When his hand landed on the latch, she screamed, ran to him and clutched him. He let out a heavy breath and took her back to the bed and started to undress her. At first she was confused then thought, “Oh, well, he did save my life” but she remained silent watching his hands closely. When he had her bare he took her over and set her down in the bath and took soap and a rag and started washing her. As gentle as he was, as soft as his touch, she still flinched at his touch. She looked up at him, fearing having displeased him she saw pain in his eyes. He stood and started pacing the room arguing with himself. He would stop from time to time and look at her and start pacing again. Suddenly he stopped and looked at her and said, “Look, I can heal you, take away the pain, but....” He shook his head and started pacing again. Finally he looked at her and said, “I can heal you and take you pain away, but you will have to trust me.” He stood there, waiting. She was numb, but eventually nodded slightly her head. He knelt down by the tub and kissed, like a woman grown. Shocked at first, she realized she was enjoying it. Nothing in her father's drunken gropping and graspping was at all like this. Her head swam, then it was over. She looked at him with a head full of wool, but in moments she felt it, well being oozing up, she looked at her self as her cuts closed, bruises disappeared and the taste of bile in the back of her throat, from terror, left her. Tentatively he finished washing her, never touching her in any way that felt wrong. Finally, he finish and stood, pulling her to her feet and toweling her off. He laid out the clothes that had come from her house and turned his back as she dressed.
The meal was delivered up to their room. It was more than she had ever eaten at one time. Soon it was time to get ready to go to bed. He turned down the covers to the bed and ushered her in, but when he started making a pallet for himself she started whimpering. He looked up to her and came put his arms around her. She pulled him down into the bed and curled up in his arms like the child she had never been allowed to be and feel asleep.
There was a journey then. Days and days of camping out. Some how he sensed she didn't want to go into the towns and villages. She never spoke and he never pushed. Never did he ask why she was being beaten. Every night he prepared two bedrolls, every night she climbed in with him, needing the comfort and security he gave her. He never said anything about it. They traveled and traveled. He bought her things, new and better clothes and shoes. Other things too, a silver mirror and brush, a chain to wear around her neck, real silver hoops for her ears.
But finally one day their journey was done. They had arrived at Roseshire. He didn't stop or deviate from his course. He drove the wagon straight for the Manor House, for all the world as if he were the Lord his self. Low and behold, it turned out he was! He took her directly to his sister, the Lady Katherine and they stepped away to talk. She heard his mutter fragments: “special....delicate....hurt...light hand...handle it yourself” And he was gone. She became Lady's maid to Lady Katherine. And that was the position she still held.
She she finished her growing up, in the caring environment of Roseshire. She heard the stories, so many of the women here saved by Edward, she blushed, she could call him Edward in her own mind at least. She heard that women he brought here from desperate situations tried to “repay” his kindnesses and, on those basis, he always turned them away. She had also heard the other stories. If a woman was sick, grievously injured or barren, they could go to him and spend a night with and be healed, or made fertile. She heard all these things and never forgot his kiss. She knew now, he was not being... He was just healing her. Yet she still remembered it and flushed from it.
On the night she became a woman full grown, as luck would have it, he was in residence and she went to him. He was ready to send her on her way, but she told him in blunt fashion she was grown now and she had heard the stories and, here she blushed, remembered their kiss. She wanted this. No, she needed this as a cleansing fire to burn away the last of her father's taint. He closed the door behind her and led her to his his bedroom.
She knew for a fact, that she was one of only a few women regularly admitted to his bed chamber, despite what all the rumors said. Somehow it gave her a sense of pride and purpose. Oh, she loved Lady Katherine and was proud of her service, but she always kept her eye out for Edward's return.

Allen looked down in his lover's eyes. “Barry, my love, I have to finish this letter for Lady Jane.” He shivered with unexpected pleasure. Even after all this time, he still did not believe he could call the man he loved, my love, so openly and blatantly. It wasn't always thus. He was beaten, had been stoned when he wandered into Roseshire. The Lady Katherine was out seeing that the men got fed, she was just like that, he wandered in and fell down in the middle of the road. She had him brought to the Manor and tended him herself. Eventually he opened up and told his story. It was simple really. He was gay and his own people tried to stone him. Lady Katherine tsk'd and asked after is childhood and education, she was pleased to learn he could read and write and had a very good hand. She immediately made him the scribe here and he took to it and flourished. He even met Barry and they fell in love. He worried that the Lord might be angry when he returned, but the man only took him out for drinks to celebrate his luck in love.
He was ecstatic here. Had a man he loved, a lord and lady who accepted him for who he was and a good trade. He was so very happy. So he looked into Barry's eyes and leaned down to kiss him and told him to run along and he would be finished soon.

Jason looked at the plans and then at the foundation for the new boarding house in the village. Well, at this hadn't been ruined in the earthquake. So many buildings damaged or fallen. He needed 20 work teams for this and he was already months behind with the two he had cobbled together with the small pickings of men and boys in the village. Edward was a fool, all these women, children and oldsters. There was not a good dozen score of men in the whole villages. There was no help for it, he would have to press the sailors into work till the damage was repaired. It would take this weight in gold to hire enough men to set things to rights before the year was out. He blew out his breath, Oh Edward, come home and help.

Peter watched his brother Jason strive towards Edwards ideal. The damage from the earthquake was a worry, but Jason was always resourceful, he would manage. Jason was ambitious, but no worry. Even if anything happened to Edward, he, Peter was oldest and then Justin and then...Well no need to worry anyway. He was happy to let Edward have the headaches and the title. He had a good life, a warm home and a woman he loved and soon enough would marry. He was happy. He would just continue in his vineyards in blissful contentedness. His wines were even starting to gather a name. Who knows, perhaps before he died his efforts could lend a tidy income to the family's accounts.

They left that afternoon and traveled for days. In towns and villages they always had two rooms and in camp two bed rolls, until one night Roon had a nightmare and Edward woke her. She curled in his arms and cuddled into his chest. After that she always slept in the safety of is arms. She never had a father, but she thought it must be a lot like this. Safe. Having a father must feel safe. Edward made her feel safe. She never asked to curl up next him and he never said anything about it. It was just natural. She guessed that too was like what having a father would be like, knowing you could take what you needed with out having to ask. She needed his safety and he gave it. She never asked and he never mentioned it. It was good. She didn't know what love was, but she guessed she might love him. He took care of her and talked to her and listened intently to what she had to say. But most of all he made her feel safe. That's what she remembered from that trip. What she would always remember.
Over the weeks of their travels together, he watched her grow. Every day she was less and less the grubby street urchin and more his little protege. She walked with her head higher and a brightness in her eyes. She was more assertive and inquisitive. Oh, she was smart as a whip too. She already had learned her ABC's and numbers. She was even starting to learn to figure and recognize simple written words. He taught at every juncture. When he bought horses she learned how. When he haggled a deal, she watched him. When he cooked in camp she watched and even started helping. She was learning to use her knife and he was teaching the basics of self defense. She was a sponge and he happily poured everything he could into her. Oh, there were still moments. She still had nightmares and needed to sleep with him. He didn't make a big deal of it. It was what she needed and it was little enough. She still always looked to him for approval when he let her order the food or pay for supplies. He even let her haggle a deal or two for him. He was happy she was with him. He did not know he could become so attached so easily.
That's how they found themselves when they reached Roseshire. Katherine was ecstatic to have a little girl to lavish her love and affection on. His other brothers and sisters were generally indifferent or just unsure. But she wore them down. And oh, did she love Katherine. They were inseparable. It was an odd family. His sister mother and he father and she happy child drinking in the love and affection from both of them. And joy of joy, the servants loved her too. They went out of their way to spend time with her and make her feel at home. And she was at home. He thought she finally was really starting to realize that. He stayed at Roseshire longer that visit than he had in many years.
Yet, finally the time came. He was to make another trip to the Seelie for more fae wine and other new trading goods. As much as he wanted to take her with him, he would never expose her to the dangers of dealing with the fae. Besides, she had her studies and new friends. That was not how she saw it. She was angry, oh so angry. He weathered her needle sharp tongue and just said that was the way it had to be. They looked at each other or a moment. He would be shamed to admit who started crying first. So it was the rode out of Roseshire with a new appreciation of life and hope in his heart. He finally knew what it was to share himself so fully with someone. He would make this as quick a trip as he could.

Katherine, Jason and Peter were huddled over a desk full of reports and lists. A train of refugees of widows and orphans from a village, a week away had arrived in Roseshire Edward sent them after the earthquake. Same gossip about he working miraculous healings and darker rumors about how. But send them he did. Now they were doubly overwhelmed, not just repairing and building up to the influx of people, but now this new group.
Katherine sat back and thought to her self, “Edward, what are you doing? What are you thinking?” That was a stupid question, she admitted to herself. She knew exactly what he was doing and what he was thinking, but would he never learn he wasn't personally responsible for saving the whole world? She chided herself at the thought, she knew his heart and would not fault him. She was worried about these rumors. Not bad enough from their own home, but coming from away like this? If they must revere him surely they could do it for something less.... sordid.
She had heard another rumor of him traveling with a dark skinned woman, a pirate, he called his betrothed. A ship even arrived with a letter of rights for them to dock in the harbor. The captain met the descriptions even. But then, Edward engaged? If only it could be true. She knew her brother and he feared that kind of intimacy. Fear not giving himself but of hurting another. No, he might have taken ….company, yes, she would call it company, with this woman. But she feared Edward would never marry. At least she had been able to keep Roon from this gossip so far. She hoped to forever. Such vicious lies, why lie about such a good man?

=====Dusk, on the hill at the edge of town under the branches of a weeping willow====
Tasha came out of the tavern in her dress to find Barbara standing formally dressed holding Edward's scabbard-ed sword, out in front of her with purple and gold streamers tied to the hilt. Barbara nodded solemnly and turned to walk slowly through town toward the hill.
Tasha hadn't seen the place where they would marry yet. She was in her dress, hair in an elegant updo. She was fidgety. Nervous
As they approached the top of the hill she saw him, dressed in a suit of finest cut done in purple and gold with a circlet on his head. Standing there with his hands held behind is back and a man behind him holding her scabbard-ed sword.
Tasha was lead to the altar. The wedding dress lightly grazing the gown. No veil upon her head. Raven hair up in a up do, white flowers, baby's breath in her hair. She smiled seeing him all dressed nice. "Well don't you shine up nice..." she spoke softly, blushing
He smiled at her, reaching for her hands turning slightly toward the mayor. That's when she saw all the survivors from the night before turned out for their wedding.
Tasha took his hands and gasped seeing the survivors there. There were so many. Her eyes danced like twinkling stars.
Edward nodded to the mayor who began. “We here are to give witness before all the gods, the crown and the people to see the binding and joining House Roseshire and the Captain of the Brair Rose in marriage and in life. Please speak you love and commitment to each other.
Tasha smiled as she gave his hands a squeeze. "Edward...these past few days, have been wonderful. All the years I spent at sea seemed but a blur now that I am with you. When I agreed to become your business partner when I first came into port...little did I know that what more of a partner I would be." She spoke looking into his eyes
Turning the the man behind him he took the ring and placed it on her finger. “You Natasha Marie Bloodsmire, hold my heart in you hands and my life in your keeping, I give you all that I am and all that I can ever be. You are my wife and my partner in life.”
Tasha smiled, placing his ring upon his finger as well. Tears welling up
He turned to the man behind him again, tying purple and gold scarves on the hilt of her sword, then taking it he went down on one knee holding it out to her saying: “My blood before yours, my life before yours and my breast always your shield. You are not only my wife but my partner and heir. Lady Natasha Marie Teach of Roseshire, I am yours to command.”
Tasha smiled softly. She took the sword from him. Edward Phillip Teach...I am your right hand. Your second mate on our ship of life." She moved the hilt to him as she tied his hand loosely to the hilt "you will be my blade. I will be your sheathe... " she cut off as she swallows a lump in her throat
Barbara begins to surreptitiously poke her with the hilt of Edward's sword from behind.
Tasha looked to Barbara with a soft smile as she handed back the hilt of his sword to him. Their hands still tied into the hilt. "You are the wind in the sails of me ship....the tide in me sea..."
He took the sword and stood, holding her hand faced the people as the Mayor said: “Having witnessed the commitment and unity of these two souls before the gods, the crown and you good people, I now present to you Edward and Natasha Teach the Lord and Lady of Roseshite. You may express you feeling to each other.”
Tasha smiled turning to face the crowd as the mayor spoke. She turned to face her new husband. Moving to kiss him deeply as the people cheered.
He gave her a kiss she felt in her toes an held her for what seemed like and eternity as the crowd erupted around them.
Tasha smiled as she kissed him back. They were alone..just them. She didn't hear the crowd. Time seemed to slow for her...
After the kiss she smiled at her, “After we mingle, I have some paperwork you need to review and sign”
Tasha exhaled feeling shaky, feeling as if butterflies were fluttering. "Aye..."
Looking down at the people she could see they put their everything into the celebration. Many of the men were bandaged or limping but still setting things up. Many of the women with a distant look in their eyes, or refusing to look at her, or meet her eyes. Not a one of them showed any signs of their injuries of the night before.
He led her down and strolled among the people who feted them, though simply, with all the sincerity of their hearts.
Tasha looped her arm around his as they walked. Silently. Her gown swayed softly as she stepped
He eventually led her to the tavern which was empty and walked over to a table with a packet of papers on it.
Tasha could hear the music outside as he led her inside. "It was beautiful, 'Sug...."
He looked at her with a look of such supreme bliss that he actually glowed. Sitting he motioned to the chair next to him.
She nodded, moving to sit in the chair he gestured
He opened the package and pulled out a stack of papers. The first was a statement that she was the Lady Roseshire, his partner and heir. The next was a deed to a little piece of land just across the bay from his village. Then there was a letter orfrights to his accounts and properties and a number of letters of credit that she could use to draw on the House's accounts. He opened an ink pot and sharpened the quill for her before holding it out to her.
She smiled a she took the quill and began to sign. After she signed it, "'sug..." she smiled pulling out a leather parchment. "This...makes you co-owner of the Briar Rose...and able to find where my treasure is.."
He smirked and drew out two final pouches, one with enough gold and gems to keep a pirate crew happy for a year, walking around money he called it, and the other with a score of the same broaches he gave her, as now she had the right to give them out and sitting on top of them, one of the other kind, a silver broach.
Tasha looked to the broaches. "What's this 'sug?"
"You are the Lady Roseshire, it is you right to give out guest right and favors on behalf of the Family." the capital he put on the word family was clear in his voice. "And remember, we talked about you earning the other broach? Oh, I think you've more than earned it, don't you?
Tasha nodded softly. "I certainly think so, 'sug.." she looked to the broaches then him.
Smiling at her he asked, “So, wife, what do you want to do now?”
Tasha smiled, "well husband...there is a party outside in our honor..."
Standing gallantly, making a formal bow, fluttering his cape she asked, “Shall My Lady permit her humble servant to escort her out?”
Tasha smiled as she took his arm. "I thought he would never ask.."
He led her out into the early night celebration and slipped his arm around her, almost possessively.
Tasha smiled as the people offered their congratulations
The night progressed with well wishers and food and dancing. Sometime after midnight they found themselves “dismissed” for the nuptial night.”
Tasha still felt herself swaying and singing. Feeling flushed from the alcohol offered to her. Sometime in the night her hair was let down in a vast amount of curls.
Walking her to the door of the tavern he turned them to see the people and held her in his arms.
Tasha smiled holding her arms around his neck. Some men were giving him catcalls and stuff about the wedding night. The women couldn't look
He tensed as he saw how the women wouldn't meet her eyes. He whispered into her ear; “I'm so sorry my love.”
Tasha laughed a bit. Slurring her words. "What are you sorry about?"
“The way they are being toward you” he nodded his head to group of women walking past the couple.
Tasha looked to the women who shied away. "They don't like me...oh well...I love you anyway."
With a sad sigh to his voice, “Honey, its not they don't like you, its that they are ashamed before you, especially standing with me as my wife.”
Tasha sighed looking to him. Sobering up as it seems. "I know 'sug...." she kissed his lips.
He returned the kiss tenderly and suddenly turned them toward the stairs, grinning he looked at her again, than just swept her up into his arms.
Tasha squealed in delight as he scooped her up. Laughing with glee.
He carried her up to their room. Walking in, his breath caught as he saw that the room had been festooned for the newlyweds.
Tasha gasped softly seeing the room. "Oh my Poseidon..." she breathed...
He walked in, kicking the door closed behind him. He walked slowly to the bed and reverently laid her down.
Tasha looked upon him. Hair cascading down in soft curls. Rose petals falling upon her ebony skin.
He knelt down beside the bed and just watched her.
Tasha smiled. Chuckled as she moved her arms by her head. Stretching and arching her back a moment before relaxing with a sigh. She looked over to him. Reaching out her hand to cup his cheek.
He leaned in and kissed her softly on the lips, then kissed her palm and reached out to the fastenings of her dress.

======The next morning at the door of the tavern=====
They stood at the door ready to leave the tavern and it looked like, if anyone in the town hadn't turned out, the had to be deaf, dumb and blind. He looked to her and shrugged.
Tasha blushed, now dressed in her usual pirating attire. Her sack over her back. "Wow...are you sure it's not our reception again?"
Speaking out of the side of his mouth he says; “Let's just move to the wagons and smile, but don't stop or we'll be here all day.”
Tasha laughed softly as she did just that. Moving to throw the sack in the wagon.
When they finally get to the wagons, she saw that the new one with all the wealth in it has had its tongue directly connected to the original wagon and a second trace of horses were present at the front of this get up. Edward gave her a hand up onto the wagon.
Tasha climbed up into the wagon. The villagers kept handing them gifts.
Teach climbed up and stood in his seat. He raised is hands to quiet the crowd. He said, “We thank you for you show of affection and gratitude, but now we must be on our way to Roeshire, we have already sent your widows and orphans on ahead of us and will relay your0 love and concern to them. Know you will always be in our hearts. He then turned and sat down and looked to Tasha.
Tasha smiled as she let him speak. The crowd erupted in cheers. The women looked to him bidding their goodbyes to him but didn't really look to her. But she ignored them. She waved and said their goodbyes. "It's like we're the king and queen of Tyran.." she spoke to him.
“No” he said in a tight voice. “In their darkest night, we were here. The Crown was not. This is what we nobility do.”
Tasha nodded softly. "I guess I have a lot to get used to now"
He looked to her with a fierce intensity and said, “You already have the core of it, heart.”
Tasha blinked a moment. "Heart? Is that what makes nobility?" She spoke softly. As he took the reins, the horses moved. The people saying their goodbyes got smaller and smaller. "Then a lot of people would be noble too if that were the case. You are the first Noble I met that wasn't a pompous ass"
He snorted, “We nobles forget why our class exists. To protect and provide for our vassals. And that takes heart, putting their needs above your wants.”
Tasha regarded him for a moment. Her hand reaching over to take his, her wedding ring and her engagement ring glinting in the sun. "Kinda like how I act with my crew..." she blinked and cursed as her other hand went over her face. "My crew is gonna kill me! I went and got hitched without them around." She laughed.
He laughed and looked at her laughing so hard he had tears in his eyes. “You think your crew will want a pound of flesh for missing the wedding? Wait till Katherine gets me alone.”
Tasha smiled softly. "They all gonna tan our hides, 'sug." She kissed his hand softly.
He reached across himself with his left and to take hers and see the rings lay side by side as he inter laced their fingers.
Tasha smiled looking to his ring then hers. Then up to his eyes. Her thumb stroked his hand softly.
He sighed contentedly as he set the team to an easy pace toward the fork in the road what would eventually lead them home.
Tasha sighed softly. laying her head upon his shoulder as the wagon moved and bounced.

Evening found them at a new campsite and enjoying a well larder-ed meal.
Tasha sat at their camp. Eating. "You sure know how to cook sug" she said placing down her finished plate.
He looked at her smirking; “At least you won't have to worry about going hungry around me. And at the rate you are rejuvenating, its a good thing you like my cooking.”
Tasha laughed softly "Good thing too, because I am starving." she helped herself to another plate and began to eat. "Some people may think I maybe eatin' for two." She joked.
He stared into the fire and very very quietly asked, “Would you like to be?”
Tasha didn't hear him. "Hmm?" She asked as she took a bite.
Looking up into her face with a completely still mask of a face he repeats himself, “Would you like to be?”
Tasha blinked softly. "Like to be what 'sug?" She ran her fingers along his cheek
Still with his face a mask of perfect stillness the responded simply, “Eating for two.”
Tasha blinked, dropping her fork. It clanked onto the ground. "Maybe..."
He turned his eyes back to the fire and said, “Let me know when, if you do.”
Tasha cupped his cheek pulling him to look to her. "Did you want a baby?" She asked softly.
Looking deeply into her eyes; “We will have a very very long time together, Natasha. I can wait and you need to settle into your new life and get acclimated to it.”
Tasha looked into his eyes. "Edward...did you want a baby?" She repeated softly. Caressing his cheek
He sighed, “Like having a wife, a woman to share my life and heart with, its a dream I never let myself dream.”
Tasha turned to face him. Taking his face in her hands as she regarded him. "You made one dream come true, 'sug..." her voice soft. Honey eyes gazed into his as her fingers ran along his beard and cheeks. "Did you desire more?" She spoke softly. Taking a hand and placing it on the small of her stomach. "A child here, more sooner than later?"
He looked into her, almost past her as if in a dream, then shook himself from it. “No my love, you have given so much already and been through so much change for it. I have seen the stress it puts you under. I will wait.” He looks at her with infinite love and devotion and says, “You will tell me when, beloved.”
Tasha kissed his lips softly. "Alright"
He began to undress her.
Tasha kissed more hungrily as she went to undress him. "I don't mind when....I just...." she sighed kissing him more..."I don't..know..." she kissed him again "how to be a wife...."
He laughed as they got tangled in their own clothing. “You seem to be making a fair start of it to me. Like I told you, you tell me when and if you want a boy or girl or twins.”
Tasha smiled nipped his lips. "Why not have it be a surprise when we conceive and what I carry ?" She looked to him.
He stopped for a moment. “It can certainly be a surprise to you if you want, but as I direct the aethor flowing from me, I have to consciously direct it. I honestly did not think you wouldn't want to know. It never occurred to me to make those kinds of decisions for us both.
Tasha nodded softly. Breathing heavily
After they were both bare, he just pulled her into his embrace and held her, skin to skin and sang softly to her.
Tasha listened to him sing as he held her. Kissing his flesh.

They crested the rise and saw it. Roseshire. In the valley laid the village and the small harbor and on the hill the manor house, built like a sprawling fortress He grinned wildly and looks at with glee in his eyes and said one word, “Home.”
Tasha gasped hearing him. She stood up, her hand resting on his shoulder for stability as she looked at the village now her home port. "Wow sug! It's beautiful!" She gasped as she looked. She can see everything . She even saw the sails of her ship. "Oh my god! The Briar Rose! Oh how I missed you girl!"
Passing through the village the villagers turned out en force to witness his return They ooked at her in a knowing way. It is almost exclusively women, child and the elderly. There are a few men and nearly a quarter of those looked like sailors. She saw the harbor and both of their ships berthed there. He continued on through to the bailey forte of the Manor's wall.
Tasha continued to stand. Too in awe with the village to notice the people looking at her. She would notice something then point it out in a exuberant way. Like a child seeing something exciting.
She heard laughter and welcomes from everyone in the courtyard and a sudden rushing, running sound and just as he landed on the ground a woman rushed into his embrace, “Oh, Edward your home.” He enfolded the woman in his arms and delicately kissed her forehead, her cheeks and laid a chaste kiss on her lips. “Aye, Katherine, we're home.”
Tasha giggled turning her head as the woman bowled him over. She hopped off the wagon in a graceful stride as she watched his siblings.
Suddenly Katherine looked up, “We're home Edward?” She looked at Tasha speculatively. “Yes Katherine, we. This is my wife, Natasha.” The look on Katherine's face was priceless. Mouth gaping in a perfect O. The she burst into tears and ran to sweep Tasha into an embrace and peppered her with kisses saying, “Oh sister welcome, welcome.”
Tasha made an oofing sound as she fell over. Gasping lightly as the wind sailed out of her lungs "Thanks...just...call me Tasha..." she grunted as the woman's grip was like a vise. How the hell does that woman have that much strength
She heard his named screeched and seemly from out of no where a young girl, no more than seven came flying through the air and landed in Edwards arms wrapping herself around him. “Edward! I've missed you. Where have you been?” Looking over to Tasha and back to Edward she saysid: “A wife, huh? I thought I was going to get to be your wife when I grew up.” Looking Tasha up and down she continued, “Don';t matter, I don't mind sharing.” He laughed contentedly as he held the child wrapped around him in an embrace and Katherine reached out and ran her fingers through the girls hair saying, “Roon, don't you want to meet Natasha?” Upon looking closer she saw that Roon was dressed almost exactly like Edward, just a little more femininely.
Tasha started to.feel a bit overwhelmed. Backing up a bit as people began to surround her. Offering well wishes and congratulations. Her breathing picked up, he could visibly see it. "Y...yes...thank you..." she repeated breathlessly. She saw the girl but was unable to say anything to her right now.
Seeing his wife's discomfort he started away, still carrying Roon in his arms and said over his shoulder, “Katherine, please come with us to our rooms.”
Tasha felt the world grow dizzy as she fell to her knees. Gasping as she was hyperventilating.
Quickly passing Roon of to his sister he was immediately at her side, picking her up and putting his lips to hers.
Tasha gasped softly, trying to breathe...the people gather around them. Murmuring. She laid her hands on his shoulders. "E.ed....ward.." she gasped feeling his lips on hers.
He looked up and with a voice born to the sea bellowed, “Alright everyone, let's back to your day. You can all see her at dinner tonight.” He started walking with her in his arms toward the Manor house, Katherine, Roon and Katherine's Lady's Maid in their wake.
Tasha laid against him, eyes fluttering as she felt herself being carried.

He carried her up stairs and down halls and when he finally arrived she understood what he meant when he had rooms. A whole wing of an entire floor was his, theirs now. He carried her in and laid her in the largest bed she had ever seen, goose down and satin sheets.
Tasha frowned softly. Coughing "Edward...I'm sorry...I ruined..." she breathed. Obviously stressed.
He smiled down at her and Katherine handed him a glass to hand her and Roon crawled in bed to snuggle her.
Tasha looked to him. And Roon. Gasping still.
He laid down on the other side of her and asked: “What is it tesoro mio?”
Tasha shook her head..."I...don't know...just hard to breathe.." she frowned softly. It was just a normal panic attack, brought on by the stress of the new things.
Edward looked up to Katherine's Lady's Maid and said, “Sammie, run, go get me a tincture of Valerian and lavender mixed with willow bark and honey.” The girl ran from the room.
Tasha coughed gasping. "E..Ed.." she called him, scared.
He cooed to her, “Hush my love, I have something that will calm you.”
Tasha nodded trying to calm.
He girl, Sammie she thought she heard her called, returned with a tall glass and handed it to Edward who held it to her lips.
Tasha tried to drink, started to cough a bit.
He started to rub her back and sing softly to her.
Tasha curled her fingers around him.
He looked up and said, “Family only.” Katherine's Lady's Maid and the other servants left, leaving only him, her, Katherine and Roon. He looked at her and with his eyes, begged her to be ok.
Tasha her eyes fluttered closed as she went still in his arms.
As she curled up in his arms, Roon wrapped herself around Tasha and Katherine made her excuses and left.
Tasha seemed to have passed out.
He gathered Roon in his arms and walked out into the sitting room just off the bedroom, where Katherine was waiting and closed the door to the bedroom behind him. He sat down with his sister and his ward and started weeping.

Tasha awoke with a start. Coughing a little as she looked around the room. Her breathing settled. She moved to the door...opening the door as she saw her husband weep. "Edward?" She spoke weakly.
He looked up and smiled weakly. “Ah, beloved, how are you feeling?”
Tasha wobbled softly on her feet but put her hand on the wall. "I'm..I'm okay.." she breathed.."Why are you crying?"
In the time it had taken her to prop her self up, his eyes were dry, he was on his feet and heading to her. “I am sure I don't know what you are talking about.” Katherine snorted and Roon looked on with her jaw on the floor.
Tasha nodded softly, breathing out a little. She still looked a tad pale. "I thought I heard..." she shook her head. When he came to her, she moved her arms around him. Shaking lightly as she held him close.
He brought her back to the chair he had been sitting in and sat down pulling her down to sit in his lap.
Tasha curled onto him. She chuckled. "What a first impression....I normally don't swoon like that. A hell of a captain I am..."
It was Edward's turn to snort and Katherine's to drop her jaw on the floor. She said, “So you really are the captain of that ship down there.” At the same time Edward said “You were just overwhelmed my sweet.” and Roon asked “Can I have a ride?”
Tasha smiled weakly...looking to Katherine "What?" Tasha sighed softly. "Aye. That is the Briar Rose. She is mine. She maybe small but she packs quite the punch.." she chuckled as she ruffled Roon's hair. "Aye. You can be my second hand...get me crew into shape." she grinned.
Katherine said “The rumors brought by those women and children that came a couple of days ago said Edward was with a woman a ….. sailor and calling her his betrothed.” She looked at Edward with a mock sternness, “And you, we have to talk about all these refugees. I love you for your soft heart, but we need skilled immigration here, not more fruits of your need to save all the world by yourself.” Roon just beamed at Tasha
Tasha smiled softly "Would you like that kiddo? You can stand at the helm too and steer her too."
Beaming Roon looks back to Edward, “Oh I like her Edward. You can keep her.” He just snorted, “Thanks for the permission to keep my own wife.” Roon rolled her eyes, looking up to Tasha and asked, “He just don't get it does he?”
Tasha laughed as she looked to her. "Maybe..." she looked to Katherine then to Edward.
Katherine grinned at Tasha and said to Roon, “Honey, why don't you take Edward to see your projects and experiments, Natasha have some talking to do.”
She nodded with a heavy exhale. Here it comes. The cross examination of the sister. Great. She smiled and stood up. "Go on love...I'm ok"
Edward let himself be dragged from the room by the hands, laughing.

As soon as the door closed Katherine looked at her with wide eyes and a conspiratorial excitement. “Ok, spill. How'd it happen? How'd you capture that walking bit of chaos in a bottle and how the hell did he keep you a secret from me for so long?”
Tasha blinked some..."Easy there love. We met about..." she thought a moment. "A week ago I think. I came into port and ventured into a partnership with him. We traveled a day or two before well....we became betrothed.." she spoke softly.
She blinked and whispered the words like she could make senses of them, “A week, a day or two, dear gods, that man really is chaos in a bottle. How did he win you so fast?”
Tasha shook her head. "I don't know..." she breathed.
Katherine laughed, “You know everyone had given up on him settling down and getting married.”
Tasha smiled softly "Well here we are.." she showed her the rings upon her ebony finger.
Katherine looked down a little sadly. “There's something you should know. You will hear the rumors soon enough anyway. I'm your sister so I have a duty to prepare you. There are stories of his skill with healing. Some say he demands a …. unspeakable price to heal a woman. Others, the kinder ones say life flows in his seed, but that is just as disgusting a lie. Oh, he is different. The things he can do with nature...” She gasped, “You needed to know so you will not be surprised.” She shook her head and whispered, "Please forgive me for being the one to tell you, but you have to be prepared."
Tasha chuckled softly "Oh 'sug...I'm well aware..." she stood looking around the room.
She looked up surprised. “You know, and you married him anyway?”
Tasha nodded "Well yes...." she poked a figurine.
Looking at her as if she were a puzzle she said, “Don't get me wrong I love you more for it, but how can you have known the lies told about him and still wanted to marry him?”
"Because they're just lies. So why should that bother me?" She spoke with sternness.... obviously she didn't know of his powers so she went with it; like he hadn't told her.
Katherine stood and walked over to Tasha and kissed her once on each cheek and gave her a hug.
Tasha blinked and hugged her back. "What's that for?"
Katherine laugh a soft tinkling sound, because you are just too good to be true.” Pulling her back to the chairs as Sammie brought in a tea service and light refreshments. “Come on, you've known him so briefly, you have to have questions.” Sammie curtsied to the two Lady's, but Tasha caught a mixed look of joy and sadness in her face.
Tasha shrugged sitting down. "Not really no..." she looked to Sammie as she caught the sadness but shrugged it off.
Katherine not to be deterred, “Well, what about Roseshire and, Oh,” she brought her hand to her mouth. “Dear, the two of you will have to be presented to society. And of course now that he has a wife, you will take his place at the Bloodings. It was never proper to request him to over see it. Never before, but after the plague the women of Roseshire were adamant. Tell me how to be a good sister for you. What can I do?”
Tasha bit her lip softly. "See, I have never been ..." gestured around her. "This..." she moved away a moment. As if pacing. "I ain't noble...I mean before this...I have no clue how to act beside him. At events and the like...."
Katherine laugh her tinkling crystal laugh and said, My dear Natasha, that comes with time and practice and I will always be at your shoulder to whisper in your ear. For the rest of it, just do that. Be at his side and take his lead. Like at dinner in the evenings, it will begin when the two of you enter, he says something and tells all to eat. You don't have to do anything unless you want to or he asks you.”
Tasha nodded..rubbing the toe of her boot with her heel. She looked more like Jack Sparrow than Queen Elizabeth. She sighed some. "That be easy."
Katherine sighed, and asked with all the concern she could muster, “Did he at least pay a good bride price for you? That always marks how much a man regards the woman he hopes to make his wife.”
Tasha smiled. "Aye...he did. But I told him...I don't mind that...I don't get the price and all that stuff.." she moved looking at a picture. It seemed to be a portrait of Edward as a child.
Katherine looked a little confused, “Its to compensate your family for the loss of a daughter. The greater the perceived loss worth of the woman, the higher the price.”
Tasha smiled. "There is no family, Child. Just me and me crew. I has no mother or father or any kin." She sighed tracing the cheek of the portrait Edward child. . "Price don't matter. I would be just happy with just the weddin'"
Katherine replied and an upbeat manner, “Well, you have a family now, a big one. And the price does matter, it expresses how much he regards you.” Looking a little wistful she asked, “Was it a nice ceremony at least?”
Tasha nodded "Aye it was. Magical."
She sighed, “That sounds like Edward.” “What sounds like me,” he boomed as he walked back in. I sent Roon on to her afternoon classes.”

He looked at the two and asked, “Sister, what embarrassing childhood stories have you been telling my wife?”
Tasha gasped as he came in. Startling her.
He laughed as he swept by her, depositing a kiss on her lips, then moved to his sister for a hug and finally to the sidebar for a drink.
Tasha kissed him back when he kissed her. Watching him move. "Oh she thinks you didn't pay me well enough for my price.." she teased...and obviously lied. She was kidding all and all.
He snorted and said, “You didn't seem to complain at the time.” He took drink, “You know how valuable that fae wine is. A princess might have so high a bride price, but who else?”
Tasha laughed walking up to him. "I know 'Sug..." she kissed his lips tenderly.
Kissing her back he laughed and said, “Than convince her, or she'll never believe you've been reimbursed enough to put up with me.”
Tasha laughed softly. Looking to him with a glimmer in her honey colored eyes. "I don't know, 'Sug. Maybe I should let her." She grinned as she ran a fingertip along his arm.
Looking at the two of them sitting together a look of wonder and sheer joy came across his features. “Wondrous” he whisper. “Two of the three people I most love in all creation in this room.”
Tasha tilted softly. "Two of the three? You have another member of you family not here 'sug?"
Teach snorted and Katherine laughed softly, “Well, you did promise to take her out on the Briar and to even let her pilot the ship.”
Tasha chuckled "Oh, that child. I'd forgotten about her." She smiled as she moved to look around more of the living area.
Edward laughed and said, “Oh, I don't think Roon will let you forget her for long.”
Tasha paused by a window, glancing out. "Your daughter is beautiful though" she assumed that she was his.
A smile came to his face. “Yes, she certainly is.” Looking to Tasha he said, “Would you ever believe I found her when she tried to pick my pocket back in Beaverton? She was all dirt and attitude then.” His smile broadened at the memory.
Tasha gazed outside to the city before them. Seeing the bustle of the town. Lots of decorations were up, celebrating the marriage of their Lord. "That's a shame. I wonder how a sweet girl ended up on the streets."
A look of far away sadness in his eyes, “She said she doesn't remember having a family.” He snorted. “She didn't even know how to take a bath when I found her months back.”
Tasha turned from the window. "That's sad.... maybe she was taken away when she was very young..." she sighed, holding her arms.
The smile returned to his face. “Oh, but she has flourished so much in the few months she's been her. She can read and figure, she is learning her manners and comportment. Her knife and fighting skills have become impressive. There's still fear and loneliness in her though. She still sneaks in to my bed and my arms when I am home.”
Tasha smiled "It's amazing 'Sug, that's amazing. " She looked down a moment.
He looked concernedly at her. “What? What is it my love? What troubles you?”
Tasha smiled softly looking up to him. "N..nothing 'sug..." she looked outside the window.
He wasn't fooled. Looking over his shoulder he said to his sister, “Katherine, can you give us the room for a moment?”

After she had left the room he looked back to her. “Ok, what is it really? I'm not buying that its nothing.”
Tasha sighed. "Do I really belong here 'sug?" She moved to him. "I know I am married to you and supposed to be here but...I feel as if I am a fish out of water."
He took her in his arms. Looking out the window he reminded her, “We don't have to be here often or long. I just have to make the occasional appearance. I'll follow you anywhere.”
Tasha nodded softly as she kissed his lips. "I know...."
With gentle concern in his voice, “Tell what to do to make this better for you, easier on you.” As far as being the Lady Roseshire, till you get your feet under you, just be the ship's captain you are. Though with a bit less colorful language.” he smirked.
Tasha caressed his cheek softly as she looked to him. "Aye aye my captain"
He sighed a sigh of relief and asked her brightly “Shall I show you around the Manor?”
Tasha nodded "Yes. Give me the grand tour, Master Teach.." she teased
He visibly stiffened. "Lord. Always Lord or Lady, never master or mistress. We have some here that were slaves once."
Tasha blinked. "I..I'm sorry.." she walked with him looking away a moment.
Relaxing he reached over and stroked her face. “Never apologize to me for such a small thing. I love you and that love is complete enough to ignore almost anything.”
Tasha smiled. Leaning into his hand. "I love you too..."
First she lad her through the Lord and Lady's rooms, they occupy when in residence. There were five bedrooms, one of which he informed her was traditionally the Lady Roseshire's as sometimes she needed space or they, in past might have only been political marriages. He showed her her private sitting room off her bedroom. Another of the rooms was obviously Roon's. Their private library and study. A novel idea, a room instead of chamber pots another room that had a big marble pool he said was the bath tub. A private and intimate dinning room for themselves. Just the tour of their private chambers went on and on.
Tasha walked about with wide eyes. Everything was ornate. So beautiful and so not what she's used to. "Wow...this place is huge..."
He smirked, plainly proud of how his home delighted her.
Tasha went to touch a statuette. Accidentally knocking it off. She gasped and went to catch it before it hit the ground. She saved it just within a hair's breath.
Teach looked at her lovingly. “Tesoro mio, don't you realize all this is as much yours as mine now? Do not be so jittery. That piece might be worth something, but its only a thing, my love. You are all that's important here.”
Tasha exhaled the breath she was holding. Placing the statuette back. "I know, 'Sug. Just hard to realize this is mine too. I vaguely remember living in a single room cabin with a dirt floor...this...never dreamed of this..." she turned to him.
Turning more fully to her he said in a soft voice, “And I never dreamed of having someone to share all this with, making me truly rich.”
Tasha smiled, blushing. "Then I have all the treasure my heart desires. Right here...and I don't need a map" she moved her arms around his neck.
He kissed her and they dropped down to the floor.
Tasha fell with him as she continued to kiss him. Holding him close.
They never finished the tour that afternoon. Instead, still on the floor of the entrance foyer of their rooms he looked over to her and said, “We need to get ready for dinner. They can't start till we arrive.”
Tasha eyes fluttered in total bliss. "Mm? What? Oh right...dinner.." she spoke dreamily. "I'll just put my back on clothes be ready in a jiff."
He laid there in his nudity, with his hands behind his head, just watching her, a shit eating grin on his face.
Tasha looked to him as she traced his face. Just as nude as he. "What?" Her fingertips grazed his lips.
Smirking he looked at her and responded, “Nothing, just enjoying the show.”
Tasha smiled as she gazed into his eyes. "Good show then?"
“The best” he said as he pulled down on top himself.
Tasha arched her back softly. "Mm aren't we gonna be late?"
Purring into a kiss he said, “They won't start without us. I promise. They can't.”
Tasha kissed him more. "I know but it's unfair.... to keep them waiting.." she pulled at him. Not wanting to let him go.
Smiling he teased her, “What would be unfair would be to leave your husband here languishing.”
Tasha laughed softly. Moaning some. "You know you always have me."
They were “late” getting to the Lord's entrance to the great dinning hall.

Tasha blushed as they finally made it. "Sorry we're late."
Looking back in the private entrance corridor and joining them. Katherine said, “Oh, don't worry about it. We expected the newly weds to take their time.” She returned to her seat. He then took her hand and led her out onto the dais where the high table was sitting. All his siblings and Roon were seated along the table. There were two elaborately decorated chairs standing empty at the center of the table. As they entered all stood and silence filled the room. He led her to the empty chairs.
Tasha was blushing badly as they walked in. All eyes on them. She squeezed his hand. Dressed in her pirating outfit. So out of the norm with all the dresses.
As they reached the chairs a girl with a silver tray with two wine glasses, approached and he took them handing one to her, raising the other he said in a loud commanding voice. “I find myself thrice blessed this evening. The joy of being home among my family and you my people. The bliss of a new wife and the thrilling joy at your enthusiastic welcoming of her. So I present to you my wife, Natasha Teach, Lady of Roseshire, my wife and partner. My heir and love.” Looking over to his sister, “And you my beloved sister will be our second.” There was joy and happiness on all faces till he said heir, then there was confusion and among some and apprehension, except Katherine who looked on in a knowing way. Until he said she was their second, then it was her turn to look confused and apprehensive and everyone else knowing and happy.
Tasha watched him speak. When there was confusion and talk, her smile disappeared for a moment.
He turned to her to see if she wanted to speak.
Tasha shook her head softly.
Raising his glass higher he said, “To homecomings and,” looking into her eyes, “Family”. He drank and said to those gathered, still looking into her eyes, “Sit, enjoy and be at your ease.”
Tasha raised her glass. "To family..." she spoke softly, sitting down when he said to sit.
Sitting by reflex, he continued gazing in her eyes as the meal was set before them.
Tasha looked to the food "Looks good..."
Finally breaking off from gazing at her he looked down to his plate. “Well, seems the kitchens know there's a new mistress of the house and have out done themselves to impress you.”
Tasha laughed softly, "well they have..I never seen so much food..." she began to eat. "Oh my gods it's heaven."
Their was convivial and happy banter over dinner till a disagreement erupted at the end of the table. Two of his brothers her talking heatedly with their heads together. She distinctly heard, “I know its important but gods dammit man you will let the man enjoy his first meal home with his new wife.”
Tasha turned her head towards them. "What's important?"
They turned to her as one and just as the older brother, Peter was saying; “Its nothing, Natasha, nothing that can't wait.” His brother, Jason, was saying; “Its the costs of the repairs and new building projects. The only way we will ever finish by years end is to hire out and that would cost both our weights in gold.” Teach just watched her to see what she would do.
Tasha blinked "Well, if it's that important then do it. Hire all that you need to make these buildings go up as planned. Don't worry about the costs."
They looked at each other and back at her and finally at Edward. He said, “You heard your Lady. Do it.” Then he returned to his meal.
Tasha blinked a moment as she looked to Edward a bit.
Turning his head to her he looks a bit confused, “Tesoro mio, what is it?”
Tasha smiled taking his hand as she kissed his knuckle"Nothing 'Sug.." she looked to him with love.
Jane, Edward's oldest sister and securely a spinster, asked her, “Child, will you be sitting over the Blooding this week for poor Edward? The other men at he table just groaned, Katherine smiled and Edward's face went stony.
Tasha blinked a moment "I.. guess so..." she looked towards Jane.
Edward looking directly at Jane said, “Natasha, that is not necessary unless you want to do it. It's my responsibility and obligation.”
Tasha looked to Edward...her face stoic, but her eyes swimming. "We...we can do it together...."
He nodded looking at her with speculation in his eyes. “You are natural in your new role. I do not understand why you have worried.”
Tasha smiled softly. "I don't know...new world...new...life...just doesn't feel right yet."
He smiled, “But you manage it so smoothly.” Katherine reached across the table and said. “Sister, you do.”
Tasha blinked looking to them with a soft smile. "I know...but...I just... something is missing but I don't know what yet..." she got up slowly from the table. Her food half eaten. "Excuse me..." she moved to leave.
As she stood the whole room stood.
Tasha left the room quicker than she thought.
Teach sighed and continued with the meal, perforce for the sake of his people seeing him present. As soon as he could, though, he went to seek her out.

Tasha was in their private bath. Steam feeling the air. She lay in the hot water, eyes closed as she tried to relax.
He stepped into the room and leaned up again the door jam, not saying a thing. Waiting on her to decide what she wanted or needed.
Tasha she sighed softly as she floated in the water. "I'm sorry 'sug....I made a mess of things again."
Laughing he shook his head, “Nonsense. You are the Lady Roseshire, you may do as you wish. You are even expected to have certain eccentricities.” Still standing there watching her, he sighed. “I'm the one who is sorry, tesoro mio, for having done this to you.”
Tasha sat up. Moving to the edge of the tub. Resting her arms on the side, looking to him like a mermaid holding onto the edge of a lifeboat. "Why be sorry. I agreed to this."
He shook his head, “Just look what it is doing to you. What happened to that self-assured, bad ass that tried to fight off a monster by herself to save her partner? The woman, even knowing what I am charged forward to claim me as her own? Where's the bad ass who won me over so completely?”
Tasha chuckled "Oh she's here... somewhere..."
Shaking his head he sat on the edge of the tub, his fingers playing in the water. Not meeting her eye, he said: “Don't you see? It is as I always feared. My love is destroying you, strangling that fearless and reckless woman I love.”
Tasha cupped his cheek. Water dripping from her hand. "You're not destroying anything..."
Looking to her with tears in his eyes, “I fear that I am,” he whispered.
Tasha shook her head. "I love you, Edward...don't fear me.." she kissed his eyes softly.
Looking into her eyes, “Ah Natasha, I don't fear you, I fear for you.”
Tasha looked to him. "I'm okay...I'll be okay..." she kissed his lips.
He returned the kiss with all the tender love in him. Then looking at her he had an inspiration. “What you might need is to be around that which you know. Would you like to go down to the Briar and take your crew out for drinks. Just you and them. I know you have been worried about them and her.”
Tasha sighed. "Not without you..." her voice broke.
“I had planned to bring them and the crew of the Empress up in a day or two to fete them and let them meet each other. Let an air of frivolity and congeniality fly.” He said looking into her eyes. “But you need, I think, a sense of the familiar. I would understand if you wanted to be with them.”
Tasha looked back softly "I love you..." she brushed the side of his face.
He smiled. He held out a large pouch of coins. “Likely you won't need it, the people will already know who you are, but if not. Enjoy yourselves.”
Tasha ignored the bag and pulled him closer and kissed his lips deeply. "I'm not going"
Arching an eyebrow he started stripping while kissing her and making sure the water was still hot.
He quickly slipped into the water with her, pulling her to him, wrapping her limbs around himself.
Tasha moaned softly kissing him. "I don't want to be apart from you."

Tasha slept soundly against him.
About half way through the night she woke up to find a very nude, seven year old wedged between them.
Tasha gasped waking up. Feeling Roon "Roon...what are you doing. "
She looked up sleepily she said, “I came in and saw you guys naked and figured that's just how we're sleeping now. Why are we all sleeping naked?” She looked at her with such innocent curiosity it was almost comical.
Tasha blinked softly as she stammered trying to think of an answer.
She heard a lazy laugh from Edward as he said, “Roon, we'll talk about it in the morning.” He pulled the child to his chest and reached across her to drape his arm on Tasha.
Tasha blinked but settled back down..beginning to doze again.
She woke to Edward tickling Roon and her screeching in glee, both still very much nude.
Tasha slowly sat up. Wincing lightly as she reached behind her, pulling a hard doll from her back. She looked to them as they played. "Odd.." she thought.
Without even looking up to her or stopping this tickle attack on the child he said in soft voice. “If we make a big deal of it, it will fasten itself in her memory and forever will she associate her body with something to be hidden away, a cause for shame. I will not handicap her in that way. Though if it makes you feel better, this is the first time I have ever been nude in her presence.”
Tasha blinked, moving from the bed "alright.." she wrapped her sheet around herself as she strode to get dressed.
Telling Roon to go to her room and get ready for her days classes, he looked to her and after the door closed behind Roon said, “Alright, spit it out, clearly you disapprove.”
Tasha sighed, putting her clothes down. Still nude. "Edward I understand your intentions but....it's not right to be...this in front of a child...."
A deep frown settling on his face. “What? You would have me traumatize the girl by making a fuss about it? The god's made us as we are, we profane them by our insistence their handiwork must be hidden. If Roon and I were not so easy with each other... Who the hell do you think had to teach her how to bathe?” He was clearly very heated by now.
Tasha blinked backing up. "Bathing a child is one thing but being as we are in front of them...." she shook her head. "Do as you must but...I will choose to shield my form from the innocent. I know...not much coming from a pirate." She dressed herself.
Standing he looked at her and stormed from the room, still very much naked.
Tasha sighed softly finishing as she got dressed. She left the room. Leaving the manor in haste as she headed to the docks. To the Rose.

He remained in a black mood all day. People who usually flocked to him fled his sight. He even called his brother Jason a “tight fisted, skinflint of a fool”, publicly. It was clear he was avoiding her. He never came to the docks and never sought her out.
Tasha spent the majority of the day away from the manor. She was on the Rose. Leaning over the stern as she looked to the water below. Still tied to the docks as the sun was setting.
Dinner time came and word was sent from the manor asking if either of them would commence dinner.
Tasha got the message. "Aye...start without me. I'll be there in a while..." she said softly sending the messenger back.
A little while later Roon came down, acting very demure and subdued. “I've been asked to let you know he has been seen taking his horse to the old Butterfield estates.”
Tasha smiled to Roon. "He is, is he now?" She looked to her. "Is he alright?" She asked softly.
A look of fear crossed her face. “I've never seen him angry before. I could swear I actually saw his clothes smoking. I asked if I could go with him. He said he was going to commit a little wanton destruction.”
Tasha ran her fingers through the child's hair . "Its alright Child.”
Roon looked up to her and in a small voice asked, “What did I do?”
Tasha held her close. "You did nothing wrong, love. Sometimes grown ups fight. And disagree"
Roon clung to her crying.
Tasha held her close.
A few minutes later the entire sky turned red, it was a false sunset, it was in the north.
Tasha exhaled softly as she held the child. She felt herself slipping to the deck of the ship. One knee hit the wood as the other knee stayed up. She still held the girl, not letting harm come to her.
After a long time the red sky started to change, the gray clouds of a severe thunderstorm came into view, looking centered over the same distant place.
Tasha looked up seeing the storm. She exhaled pushing herself up. "Roon head home...I need to go to him.." she slowly walked off the ship and started in a decent run towards the storm.
On her way she saw funnel clouds form.
Tasha ignored the clouds as she kept going. Her eyes straight ahead.
Long before she arrived the storm blew its self out.

When, hours later she arrived, she found him sitting on a stone that could only have been part of a large building, looking into a camp fire. His vitality, though still high, was noticeably dimmed, as was the innate feel of power around him.
Tasha made it to him finally. Breathing heavily. Sweating up a storm from the run. "S..'sug..." she spoke as she collapsed.
He looked up, saw her collapse and got up and walked over to check on her.
Tasha was alright...just tired from the run. She panted as she slowly moved to sit. Shaking softly. "A...are you okay?" She spoke as he reached her.
He turned and walked off a little ways, his back still toward her. “I just have to get accustomed to what you think of me.”
Tasha got up and went to him. "What are you talking about 'sug?" She placed her hand upon his shoulder.
He whispered, “Its because of how I heal isn't it?”
Tasha blinked and turned him around to face her. "Edward. I am fine on how you heal. You do great things. I am at peace with that..." she cupped his cheek.
Still in a whisper he responds, “Then how else is it that my own wife believes that I could ever be... depraved with a child?”
Tasha eyes widen. "Edward...." her voice soft. "I don't think that all...why would you think I would think such horrid things?"
He turned away again, “You made you feelings plain this morning.”
Tasha growled "Don't turn from me..." she spoke harsh then sighed and spoke calmer "Please." She moved closer. Holding him in his arms. "I'm sorry about this morning 'sug...I had a horrid childhood. Was done with things you not want to imagine. It seemed odd to me, the subject of nudity I'm front of children. It wasn't my place to yell as I did but I do not think of that of you..."
He looked genuinely confused, “Unless you believed I had perversion in my heart, how could you ever think there was anything wrong with letting a child be a child? It is cruel to make them grow up too fast. All too soon life and the world around her will cloud her heart and innocence.”
Tasha sighed "Because when I was a child it was not allowed...unless..." she didn't finish the sentence.
“Unless what?”, he asked, sure he didn't want to hear the answer and just as sure he had to.
Tasha looked down.."Unless the customer wanted you..." she rubbed her arm.
He took her in his arms. “There was a time I would have gone to your home and raised the entire city. I have done the like before. Then I came here the last time.” He looked around to giant building stones scattered around and old charred remnants were the only other indication a large building or buildings had once been there.
Tasha held him close as he took her into his arms. Shaking still. "For five years....I did it....after they killed...." she paused as her hand rested over the small of her stomach. If Edward remembered, there was a nasty scar there. Old. But there. "I ran....I ran so far...."
Holding her more tightly he whispered into her ear, “Who did they kill, Natasha?”
Tasha closed her eyes. "My baby, 'sug...."
His breath left him. “I understand now. I should go and destroy that land, for destroying something so precious and beautiful in you.”
Tasha held him tight as a shuttered breath left her. "I was just fourteen...I left...ran away...became tough...became a pirate. I returned to that place...and laid waste to it...."
Looking around them again, he said so softly she has to strain to hear him, “Qui tacet consentire videtur.”
Tasha looked to him. "What 'sug?"
"He who remains silent is understood to consent." He answered. It's why I destroyed this entire keep and family and not just the son."
Tasha looked to him. "What are you talking about? This place had a family?" She looked to him.
He sighed, “Just before I became Lord of Roseshire, this place was very like Roseshire, oh the keep was more a fortress and the village smaller, but still.... Well, really its not my story to tell its Katherine's, if she is willing to relive it. If not I will not.”
Tasha nodded softly. "Are...we okay 'sug?" She asked softly. Looking to him. "Poor Roon was all upset."
He sighed shaking his head. “I talked to her, asked her not to go nude around you again. I might have been more abrupt than I would normally have liked.”
Tasha sighed "S..she's a child...she can go nude if she likes...I need to learn to let go of that..." she kissed him softly.
He shrugged. “She was a street kid. Though I understand most children go through a nude phase when they are toddlers, well she has never been allowed to be a child. She may simply try the edges and see if I was telling the truth, that I would never send her away. She would always have a home here.”
Tasha nodded "I know that....new place..new family.." she sighed looking to him. "I am sorry I upset you. I didnt mean...."
He looked at her with new eyes. He knew there had to have been trauma in her life, but this? He got down on his knees and kissed her stomach, her womb.
She watched as he knelt down. A softness in her eyes as she felt his lips upon her flesh. A soft smile appeared upon her lips as she laid a hand upon his head. He would see the scar, it was healing yes, but was still plainly visible. "'Sug...." she spoke almost in question but also with assurance. He looked up into her eyes with loving care and kindness and asked, "Yes my love?"
Smiled looking down to him. "I know...you want a child..." she spoke softly as her eyes glimmered.
He looked up with understanding love and compassion. "We discussed this before. I can wait."
Smiled softly to him. "It's okay 'sug...." she ran her fingers through his hair. "Although...even with your healing...it will take a while to heal....the damage they've..." she sighed.
He looked up shocked, “Surely you know by now that's not necessarily true.”
Tasha slowly lowered so she was face to face with him. Kneeling before him. "I know 'sug..." she looked down, her hands moving up her shirt. Exposing her stomach and scar. "I...won't lie. I'm afraid. Even with us newly married..." her hands trailed along her chocolate skin.
Ok, he was clearly jargoned, “I know you are, beloved, I said I would wait. Whether tonight or a hundred years from now, I'll wait. I can surely give you that much at least.”
Tasha cupped his cheek softly. Leaning forward and kissing his lips.
He kissed her back with warmth and tenderness, but a hesitation so slight she wondered it she really felt it.
Tasha thought she felt the hesitation. But she held him close. "I love you Edward."
“And I you, wife. Let us leave here, leave dark thoughts and feelings to this dark place. Let's go home.”
Tasha nodded "Yes..let's go home"

He retrieved his horse and boosted her up on it then took the reigns and started to lead them home.
Tasha looked down upon him from the horse. Watching him with love.
He remained silent as if in deep thought and just walked into the night leading them home.
Tasha was silent the entire ride back. The only sound was the sound of the horse.
As dawn was breaking they finally reached Roseshire. A very tired looking Roon ran to greet them, but as soon as she reached them she was instantly quiet and would not look up. She didn't say a thing, just watched them walking andn and fell in beside them.
Tasha smiled weakly. "R..roon..."
The girl looked up demurely and very tentatively asked, “Yes, Natasha?” Edward reached down and picked her up, carrying her in the crook of his free arm.
Tasha "I'm sorry...love...for causing you pain...I didn't mean..." she winced , moving in the saddle. "Please...call me momma..."
Roon beamed looking up and thoughtful and Edward looked back in complete, drop dead shock, mouth hanging open.
Tasha smiled softly looking down to her. "And Edward here....will be your daddy.." she looked to her with love.
Edward, apparently lost for words for once, kissed the child's brow and cheeks and laid his head on her shoulder as he carried her. Tasha could see him breath in the smell of the girl.
Tasha smiled softly watching him. The horse shifted under her. She watched her husband and their daughter together "I know you love her, 'sug...the way you are with her. She's your daughter. "
Tears glistened in his eyes. “Roon, child, do want to be our daughter and to call us Mother and Father? Or would that be too strange to you?” Roon looked to him in confusion, “But Edward, you have been my father since we left Beaverton.” She heard Edward's breath catch.
Tasha smiled "Then you are our child love...and soon...you'll have a brother or sister to play with one day."
Roon's inhaled breath was audible. “Really? When? A brother or sister? I'd love either, or even one of both.” Edward lost a step and covered it by handing Roon up to her on the horse.
Tasha helped Roon onto the horse with her. Wrapping her arms around her. "In time love...but it won't be long. Months will go by quickly and I will need your help. Can you do that my child?"
Roon turned on her horse and kissed Tasha.
Tasha kissed her back. Holding her close, shaking lightly.
Roon looked concerned, “What's wrong momma?”
Tasha breathed out softly. "Nothing, child..."
They finally reached the Manor and Edward sent both is girls off to bed and called the scribe to his library and Katherine as well.

Tasha passed out as soon as her head hit the pillow. She was so exhausted from the run and the ride back and the entire events of yesterday.
Edward was anything but idle while his wife and daughter slept. He called in the scribe and Katherine and her Lady's Maid to witness the document. When he was done he came in search of them and found them together, asleep. He just watched for a time then crawled in beside them.
Tasha slept quietly and peacefully.
As evening drew near, Katherine herself came to wake them for the coming evening meal, Sammie in tow.
Tasha awoke slowly. Wincing, her muscles still sore. "A..alright..."
Teach woke and jumped from bed. Eagerly walking to the parlor and saying over his shoulder, “Natasha, I have papers to be signed. Roon go get a quick bath.”
Tasha got up and went with Edward, moving slow and tired as Roon went to take a bath.
There were a stack of papers. All saying the same thing, a proclamation that Roon was the daughter of Edward and Natasha Teach and was thereby entitled to all the privileges and honors thereof. The top copy was the most ornate but all said the same thing. There were numerous copies for them to sign and Katherine and her Lady' Maid to witness.
Tasha signed all the paperwork, stifling a yawn.
When the papers were signed he handed them to Sammie with instructions that the top go to the Manor's official records vault and the rest be distributed throughout the Shire. He then looked up and said, “I wonder what's taking Roon so long, I did say a quick bath.”
Tasha shrugged softly. "I don't know 'sug...." she yawned. "I'm still so tired..."
He walked to the bathroom door and listened and snorted, “That child” and threw the door open standing there with his hands on his hips. “Roon Grey Teach, I thought I told you a quick bath.” She sat there looking sheepish with a doll in each hand and the soap and sponge dry as a bone.
Tasha chuckled watching him as she sat on a chair just beyond the bathroom.
Edward walked over to the tub and took the soap and sponge and commenced to wash a recalcitrant little girl, as he spook over his shoulder. “Don't laugh too hard, you can go in the drink too.”
Tasha smiled. "No thank you..." she reclined and shuts her eyes for a moment.
Once he had Roon suitably clean he picked her up out of the bath and started toweling then dressing her and brushing her hair. “Sure you don't want jump for a quick bath before dinner?”
Tasha blinked awake. "No thanks....I'll end up falling asleep for good.”
Once dress and coiffed, Edward swats Roon on the bottom and says, “Now go help your decrepit old aunt Katherine get ready for dinner. I for one intend to wash the dust off me before I sit down to eat. Katherine snorted. “I'm not even a full year older than you are Edward.”
Tasha smiled tiredly despite having slept all day. She walked into the bathroom with him to at least be there for him to talk to.
Katherine and Roon left their rooms as Edward started striping to slip into the bath. Looking up to Tasha, tenderness entered his eyes. “I love you so much. Thank you.”
Tasha blinked softly as she looked to him. "I love you too...and for what, 'Sug?" She sat down on a chase lounge.
“For being you.” he said as he sliped into the tub, using the same water from Roon's bath.
Tasha looked to him. "You're welcome...I guess.." she smiled laying upon her side on the lounge. Yawning. "I saw the storm 'sug....while I was on the Briar Rose. I knew it was you....I ran to you from the port..."
“I know” he said as he looked down.
Tasha blinked "You know?”
He snorted, “Well, you arrived over two leagues away without a horse and just after I expended a bit of wrath..... Doesn't take a genius.”
Tasha blushed softly feeling a bit embarrassed. "Oh..." she smiled softly. Running a hand through her hair. "I am sorry I made you mad."
He shrugged and answered, “I thought we agreed to leave those dark thoughts to that dark place.”
Tasha nodded "I know.. you're right.." she got up. Walking to him as she sat beside the tub. She cupped his cheek.
Looking into her eyes, his green eyes took on the shade of tropical waters, “I know what you told Roon, about a sibling. Don't rush yourself on my behalf.”
Tasha smiled softly. Running her thumb along his cheek. "It's alright 'sug..."
He let out a deep breath. “As I told you, just let me know when. If you have any preferences for gender, or number or anything else, tell me that too, then.”
Tasha smiled. "When it happens...I want it to be a surprise. If you can.. about what the child is...the number....I'm not used to being able to tell right off what the child is." She looked into his eyes.
He looked into her eyes and said, “I can do it and let it be a surprise for you, though somehow that feels.. dishonest to me. Gender, ok, you don't want to know, I won't tell. But tell me what you would like, a boy, a another girl, both. I will certainly take it under advisement.”
Tasha nodded. "I don't know 'sug...”
He looked at her with an evil light in his eye, “That's alright, Roon and I will just conspire over it.”
Tasha smiled to him softly. Picking up a washcloth and began to was his arm softly. "You're going to have her choose aren't you? I can just see her not knowing what she wants, going from sister to brother..." she chuckled as she ran the cloth along his skin with care. "What about you? What do you desire? A son or a daughter?"
He laughed, “Why be choosy. Why not one of each?” He looked at her with teasing eyes.
Tasha chuckled. "I'll be so huge with twins...are you sure you can put up with me eating for three?" She looked back into his eyes as she tended to him with loving care. Cleaning him till no trace of dirt was left.
He shook his head, “Unless you asked for that specifically or said you truly didn't care, I would not do that to you.”
Tasha sighed softly as she looked to him a softly. Her hand ran along his beard. Scratching his chin shaking softly. "I want...to make you happy..." leaned forward, lips barely touching his. "Let's have a baby..."
He looked into her eyes with a deep abiding love and responded, “We have a daughter, want a son then? And if you want I can do it tonight or give you a few days or weeks to get used to the idea.”
Tasha nodded softly. "A son..." she kissed his lips softly.
“A son”, he sighed, “So many choices, light eyes and complexion or dark, tall and broad like me or small and athletic like you....” His voice just trailed off considering all the possibles.
Tasha smiled watching him. "You can choose how our son will look?"
He smiled impishly, "Only in a general manner. I can choose a light complexion or dark, but not specific shade, light or dark eyes, but not specific color and so on like that." Looking longingly he reminded of what he had told her before, though being a touch more clear, “Remember my love, my life, it is always life that flows through me, but I am the directing force. The intelligence that tells it what to do and how to work.”
Tasha nodded softly as she just stared into this eyes, leaning against the tub. "I know..." she gazed at him for a moment until she was startled by a loud knock on the door. "My Lord, dinner is waiting."
He roared a booming laugh and jumped out of the tub and threw the door open, “Sammie! Why are you being so shy? Things may not be able to be as they were, but no need to act as if it never was!” Waving her away, she left with a look at Tasha of pure and abject apology. “We're on our way dammit!”
Tasha laughed softly "Perhaps she didn't want to disturb anything." She stood up softly as she walked into the room.
Walking into the room and pouring himself a rum before walking his closets to dress the grumbled. “They walk around lying by trying to deny the past ever happened. Why? Do they think you are some brittle shrinking violet?”
Tasha walked to him. Helping him get dressed. "Who are lying?" She looked to him.
He grunts. “Sammie, trying to pretend she wasn't my favorite lover. Maggie trying to pretend she's not in love with me. All the women here, never mentioning the things I must do for them. As if giving it a name will crush you somehow. Its enough they hide the full of it from Katherine, but you are my wife, my other half.”
Tasha shook her head softly. "It's not going to bother me and I know." She moved in in front of him, buttoning his shirt.
He looked at her, jargoned by what he had just so freely volunteered and said, “You should know, Sammie came to me, it was a need in her then. And I've never laid a finger on Maggie.”
Tasha didn't look to him for a moment. Her fingers on the last button. She stiffened slightly as a shuttered breath came from her lips. "'Sug....it's..alright.."
Shaking his head then scratching it he looked at her and sat down. “What am I doing to you, Natasha, my beloved? I swore to us both, Never Again, and so it shall be.”
Tasha looked to him as he sat. Her hand cupping his cheek. A single tear traced down her cheek. "You can...I just...don't wish to hear of it..." she was trembling. Trying to hold herself back.
Looking back at her, steel entering his eyes and voice, “Never Again, my wife. Never Again.”
Tasha looked into his eyes. "I will not be the cause of my husband's death because of my selfish desires." She cupped his cheek.
A sly and cunning look entered his eyes. He knew how to end this discussion and never have to have it again. “Very well, my love. Very well, but only those you choose.”
Tasha blinked softly as she didn't have an answer to that..another tear fell as she moved to turn from him a moment. "As....you wish.." she finally spoke after a long while. Her voice small, barely heard.
He rocked to his feet and took her into his arms, “Tesero mio, don't you see how much I love you?”
Tasha leaned into his arms. "I do see...." she looked up to him. "I love you too...but how...can I let you die all because I may not be here?"
He snorted, “That's simple, never be far from me. We are joined as one flesh and our lives are one. This is how we will live. They will write songs of the undying love and devotion that we could not bare to be parted.”
Tasha smiled. Her mind raced with what ifs. She took his lips tenderly in hers. Moving his hand to her stomach...to her empty womb as she held him close.
He smiled down at her, “Day dreaming about our son?”
Tasha smiled "yeah." Blushed.
Reaching down and taking her chin in his fingers, tilting her head up he kissed her, very thoroughly. “We should head down before they send someone else up.”
Tasha kissed back. "Y..yeah...we should go.." she spoke dreamily.

As they entered the great hall two things come immediately to her attention: The seating at table had changed. She was at Edward's right as before, but now Roon is at his immediate left and Katherine was at her right. And the complexion of the gathered people was different. About half sailors and many of those her people. She could only assume the rest were his.
Tasha blinked as she noticed the change. As her crew saw her, they began to bang on the table and stomp the floor, creating such a ruckus.
The regulars and Teach's crew rose in silence as is customary and patiently waited.
Tasha blushed as they only got louder. She moved to sit in her place.
Edward saw her slide into her seat while everyone else continued to stand but said nothing. He raised his hands out over the crowd for quiet.
Tasha blinked as she stood up. "Oops.." she mouthed to him. Her crew quieted down finally.
Raising a glass he said, “We had brought you, our valued crews, to come tonight and share in our joy of married life. There is another joy for you to share in with us tonight. We now have a daughter, Roon Grey Teach.” He tilted the glass to her. “She will share out a piece of our prosperity to you with her own hands after dinner, so you may share fuller in our happiness. To the cause and core of my happiness and joy, “ tilting the glass toward Tasha, “my wife, Natasha Marie Teach, Lady of Rosesire.” He finally took a drink.
The crew yelled out "To the Captain!"
Teach bellowed out like a man used to shouting orders on the quarterdeck, “Sit! Eat! Enjoy!” He then moved to pull Tasha's chair out for her.
Tasha sat down as the crew began to eat with absolutely no manners. She Chuckled. "I'm sorry."
He laughed, “Why do you think I removed the usual crowd with the weakest stomach tonight?”
Tasha laughed as she began to eat. "Good thing.."
As the meal came to desert, Roon looked up to Edward and he nodded to her. She rose and went to two tables in the back, one piled with ingots of gold and the other with ingots of silver. She collected a number of each into a satchel and started around the tables of sailors and started handing out gold to the officers and silver to the crew.
Tasha watched as the satchels was handed out. The crew went nuts.
Edward looked on pleased, but with a cunning, knowing look in his eye.
Her crew began to sing...very off key...a song praising Edward and Tasha.
Just then probably the oldest woman Tasha had ever seen walked into the great hall and just started walking straight to the head table. She could see Edward visibly tense but maintain a pleasant smile on his face.

Tasha blinked looking as the woman came to them. She stood up as she approached. "Hello, I don't think we've met. I'm Tasha.."
The woman blinked at Tasha than looked back to Edward waiting to be recognized. He sighed and said, “Welcome Crone Eugenie. It pleases my heart to have you here to share our good fortune and joy.” Motioning to Tasha, “This is my wife the Lady Natasha.” The woman eyed them then said plainly, “M'Lord, M'Lady,” she gave a painful curtsy. “The Blooding be tomorrow night at midnight.” He sighed again and said, “Yes, of course Crone Eugenie. I will be there and my wife....” He looked to Tasha to see what she wanted to do.
Tasha smiled. "We'll both be there." She stayed standing.
The woman smiled and Teach said, “We are celebrating, Crone Eugenie, please partake and enjoy yourself. Tasha saw the first genuine smile from the gap toothed woman and she curtsied to him and reached her hand out for Tasha's.
Tasha took her hand. "Yes...please enjoy yourself."
With Tasha's hand in hers she curtsied, pain plain on her face, to Tasha saying, “Be a true pleasure to have a proper Lady back in Roseshire, M'Lady.”
Tasha blinked a moment. "Thank you..." she looked to Edward , questioning eyes.
He had a smile in his eyes. The old woman than turned and walked to one of the tables where the sailors were drinking, took one's drink and said non-pulsed, get your own sonny.”
Tasha smiled. "Who was she? What did she mean lady back in Roseshire?"
“She is the eldest of the elders among the women. That's why she uses the title Crone. And well, my sisters are Lady Roseshires. Katherine is a Lady Roseshire. You as my wife are THE Lady Roseshire. There hasn't been one since my mother died giving birth to me.”
Tasha frowned hearing about his mother. "Oh...well I'm glad the people are happy.
Looking at her and he continued, “Katherine has been the defacto Lady Roseshire, me lacking a wife, but she and all the people are ecstatic a proper Lady Roseshire is in residence.”
