The first thing Elyn did when she got into her room was cover her face with her pillow and muffled the sound of a small nervous scream. All she could see was Ardyn’s face so close to hers and no matter how many times she tried to imagine it, Reign ruined everything.
She sighed, falling back on the bed and thinking over the last few days. Ardyn was like hope in all her darkness. Even if he didn’t want to kiss her… or she didn’t want to kiss him… Elyn found herself drawn to him in ways that she didn’t feel before. Even before, when Ardyn assumed Elyn was just mean because she liked him, Elyn found it easy to deny that. She was the woman who left him in the cell even though she knew he needed out.
And then she got time away from her father and she suddenly felt as if she got some sense of fresh air. The more she thought about it, the more she realized she found him perfect the moment she met Ardyn. After a few moments of feeling like a normal girl who had a crush on a boy, Elyn fell asleep soundly without any of the nightmares.
The morning was no better either. Elyn moved through People’s Palace with a nervous step. She wasn’t sure how she could face Ardyn or her father for that matter, so she tried to avoid them both. Not that she chose a very good spot: Elyn was hidden away in one of the stacks at the library. Her choice of literature? Poetry. How… cliché.

Ardyn had tossed and turned with an ache that had nothing to do with injury. He should of never pointed out Lilwen, much as they both liked her. He was confused that he regretted it so, confused how they had went to bitter acquaintance to the kind of familiarity that involved such a touch. He was quite convinced her eyes had somehow been switched with someone elses, so different they were when she failed to scowl. He thought his departure had been entirely too childish, and it took him fifteen minutes to remember he left his boots outside.
He had crept through the halls just to find them and bring them back, and once returning to his room he paced the room before falling backwards onto the bed with a sigh. He absolutely hated the sound of it.
When the morning came he was bleary eyed when Reign knocked on his door and bid him to follow, and he was alert after he’d been served oatmeal for breakfast and then ‘strongly suggested’ to stay at the desk in the library near the southern end and not get up until he’d read the complete works of the sorcerer Harleth. Thumbing through the pages he had long since forgiven himself for not being able to focus. With a quiet resignation he shut the book and broke the rules by taking a break. Roaming the stacks he went looking for another tome- something that had more to do with his odd condition- despite knowing that Reign had told him such works were limited.

Elyn half knew that her being in the library would eventually lead her to Ardyn. Her father likely knew she was there too, maybe… Something about him changed since the loss of the Darklight, but she didn’t care. Elyn loved him dearly despite her teenage rebellion of sneaking in the library in hopes of meeting a boy. At least they had cover if things…. She shook her head, burring her face between the page of the book. Her face was red from though. She had never felt this girly before and hated it. Yet for some strange reason, she had a small smile that wouldn’t go away.
Footsteps had her lifting her head, listening to them a few stacks away. Elyn shut the book and carried it with her as she slowly stepped through the large tower of bookshelves. Why was she tip toeing? Because she saw the strands of white hair that she certainly knew didn’t belong to her father. And she remained hiding because…. Because she was suddenly nervous!
What was going on? She helped him in a battle, protected a group of children with him. Insulted him! Was cruel! Why was she suddenly wondering if her hair looked okay and wondering if he thought she looked pretty? She wrinkled her nose, suddenly playing off every lesson that Verity taught her. This was what girls did when they liked boys.
She would NOT fall victim to that silly game. She was seventeen, not fourteen! Still… Her internal monologue didn’t give her enough courage to step out and call his name. Instead, awkward Elyn just waiting to see what he was looking for.

Ardyn had wandered out of the pragmatic tomes and into the works of people who considered life to be more than the management and acquisition of power. To be fair, the Arisalonians seemed to be more than Arc and his family had presented. Their art had value- it was valued. The works of a man named Aurelius was his early favorite. He had consumed much of the first primer he was given on the philosopher king. Despite loss, he persisted with stoic demeanor and lead the Arisalonians through war to the other side.
That was the part Reign had confirmed in the tutoring he had offered in a few short hours so far. However, Aurelius was more than a stoic. He was a visionary. His view of people, of humanity, of all that they could accomplish, it made the spirit soar. So he pulled from the stack his book of meditations, and leaning against the massive shelves he began to thumb through the first few pages with careful intent.
Ardyn was never going to rule anything. People didn’t understand that reading a ruler’s words did not mean they could not be applied by someone who had no passion to lead. He read the text aloud, oblivious at current- though somewhere deep down he could feel eyes on him.
“Dwell on the beauty of life. Watch the stars, and see yourself running with them.” He looked pensive at the idea.

Elyn found her chance. It was a wonderful thing, surrounding yourself with books. Elyn didn’t like wearing fancy dresses or shoes for that matter. She wore more commoners dresses when she wasn’t doing anything political, and today a simple navy blue dress adorned her petite frame. Bare feet were the perfect opportunity to sneak up on boys in the library, which she didn’t do often. Just this once.
“I think I prefer ‘accept the things to which fate binds you, and love the people with whom fate brings you together, but do so with all your heart.’” She paused only a few feet behind him. Hugged against her chest was a book of poems by Horace, Virgil, and a plethora of other poets. Violet hues cautiously watch him, unsure of his reaction. She still couldn’t find a way to talk about the previous night, but she could talk about books with him. Maybe. Her gaze found his face far too distracting now that she was there.
“Hello, Ardyn,” she said with a sheepish smile. It was an easier time when she was scowling at him.

“Ah, but you’ve introduced love to the discourse. Once you do that, everything gets remarkably more complicated than Aurelius often viewed.” he said with a slow spread of a grin peering over the cover of the book. “Good afternoon Elyn.”
“What do you think about “When you arise in the morning”...how does he say it? “Think of what a privilege it is to be alive, to think, to love?” Ardyn looked rather moved at the thought, as if it was something he built his life on before he ever read it. “ Aurelius understood so much about human nature. It’s challenges. What made it worth living. The world mourns thinkers like him, whether they realize it or not.” For a moment it looked like he drifted outside, outside the thick palace walls- her gaze drew him back to the present.
He turned the page of the book, searching. “I did not know you were so well read, though I suppose I should’ve guessed. This library, have you something like it at your home as well?” He would not deny that this private library rivaled if not beat anything he had ever seen before. That said, being as it wasn’t a Thunderbird, he’d try not to get too excited.

“It’s easier said than done,” she commented dryly. She pulled her gaze away from him, but still listened to his words. Elyn chose to focus on the book in his hands, trying to come up with reasons so to why that looked more interesting than his face.
“I have a lot, though most of my own collection came from my mother. I’m not sure why, but I prefer literature and poetry to anything else. Something about living in a world that isn’t your own….” She shrugged. Elyn loved books, perhaps more than her own magic. In books she could choose a life that wasn’t her own. Not that she had a bad life… Elyn loved being a Kaliba, loved her parents and despite the trials, she never really regretted any of her life choices. But in books, people seem to get a better handle on life than she could.
“I tend to just read anything given to me, really. Before I met my father—“ She paused, frowning a little at the memory of how over protective he became before moving on. “Well, I never had proper lessons. He was my only teacher.”

He closed the book and put it back on the shelf. He might’ve smiled a bit at the mention of her father before shifting to the stack she was near and leaning his elbows back behind him on the edge of the shelves. The proximity was like a drug. Every time he got a taste he found himself wanting more.
“Considering the stories- he’s actually a pretty good teacher. He’s been helping me understand just who I am, or rather what. I don’t think he cares too much about who. At least until last night.” He said with a nervous chuckle.
“Being honest.. I’ve been lucky. While I didn’t grow up with much family, well..any family, I’ve never had problems finding people to learn from. In the Raven Islands it was the study of arms, the warrior’s path. It wasn’t entirely my favorite thing, but it helped. Then Silem… it was beautiful. A city dedicated to peace. I can’t really say it was practical, but it was the kind of place you can’t help but remember fondly.” He paused for a moment shifting to face her, his hip against the stout wood of the stack.
“I’d like to go there.. Together I mean.”

When the book was put away, Elyn didn’t have any more distractions. She had nowhere for her eyes to look except for on him. It wasn’t just because he was handsome, but Elyn liked the way he held himself. He seemed to be collected despite the trials he was going through. She was a little jealous of him and his heroic stance.
“I am really happy to hear that.” Elyn thought she had it bad when she didn’t know who her father was until she was thirteen, but Ardyn had it worse dealing with what he was. “I hope you find what you’re looking for and I hope it helps you live a happy life.”
She tucked a strand of hair behind her ear, adding to the nervous laughter. “Yes, that was rather… rude. Kind of funny though, how fate works. First Lilwen and then my father.” She shrugged. “Maybe it was just not meant to be.” She half joked.
“I’d love to see Silem. I’d love to see everything really. As much as I adore living with my father and Shelzi, I don’t think I’m going to be able to for much longer.” She was getting older, for one thing. And for another, Elyn didn’t want to butt into their little family life. She was happy for the two of them, but she wasn’t sure if she could handle it all… all the time.

Ardyn couldn’t help but notice that small gesture of tucking her hair behind her ear. It was cute. It was alluring in her own young way, and he found it the most intriguing thing to watch. She had a twinkle in the eye despite the momentary shift to their mutual embarrassment.
“Yeah..kind of funny.” he echoed, unable to agree much with her half joke. After what they had cited from Marcus Aurelius, he didn’t want to consider fate his enemy. He didn’t know why he was floundering, just like he didn’t know why he had trouble controlling how often his eyes looked into hers.
Damnit. He had just finished reading about the imperative, a kind of draw placed in Arisalonians who survived the collapse. Survival quite literally needed Arisalonians to meet and procreate. It had not escaped Reign’s notice that Ardyn was a boy, and it was established by Ardyn’s own observations that Elyn was a girl. According to Reign’s ‘talk’ that he gave him, Ardyn and Elyn were the first Arisalonians of differing genders who were not related, in roughly several centuries. Reign had been squirrelly about just how many.
He had never really been *this* interested in anyone. He had never been so offended. So impressed. So infatuated. Everything about Elyn- good and bad stood out. She shined brighter than anything he had witnessed. When she had been so angry at him, he’d been miserable. He wasn’t even able to get properly mad. Ardyn probably wouldn’t of understood all this anyway. But this had complications beyond the norm, whatever the hell the norm was.
“Elyn, we should go. Like..when this is over you know. But yeah. No excuses. Just go. Visit Silem, take a ship and see the Raven Islands- really see what the big deal is about this rock.” What was merely a good idea, felt like the most remarkable adventure. Together. Yeah. He could understand Reign’s frustration.

She saw the way he looked at her; she wasn’t blind. It was strange but nice to have someone look at you like you were the only thing left in the world. It was also nice to feel that way about someone, because she certainly felt something strong for the boy in front of her. Elyn was rather sheltered and really never even met someone around her age that wasn’t related to her or one of the guards who took very little interest anyways.
“Ardyn…” She took a step forward, parting her lips to say more but suddenly stopped. She didn’t want to ask ‘when would that even be?’… they had no idea when this war would even come to an end and what would happen to either of them.
Her heart felt as if it wanted to leap out of her chest. He made her nervous and that was all she could think about. That and exploring the world with him.
“I would want nothing more.” She swallowed, running out of things to say.

A few things had happened since the library. Ardyn and Elyn kissed. It was more than that, he felt such relief, such exhilaration, that the whole night ended up winding up the two teenagers more than he would've wished, as evidenced by the need for a cold bath before sleep. Being neophytes did little to curb their appetites, but morality and propriety won the day. Barely.
The next morning, Ardyn woke to the birds singing and the sun shining. His goofy grin came to life shortly after he rolled out of bed and washed his face of any remnant of his slumber. He got dressed with a whistle, a goddamned whistle. Today, he had off. All of it. He wouldn’t be pouring over books, he wouldn’t be in the lower levels being ran through his paces, and he wouldn’t be helping Victor train.
Today was a good day. He had all but forgot the weeks horrors, and with the extreme militarization of the streets, commerce was beginning to return to the city. He was almost certain this was the kind of day he could leave without trouble.
Of course he didn’t. He went in search of a girl, one who had him utterly infatuated with her first, and this family of hers second. He found himself out for fresh air after searching for her in vain, (he got up too early) and he idly rocked back and forth on his heel towards the railing idly running his finger along Phaen’s tell-tale perch. The thing was so big his talon had gouged the wood.

The only thing Elyn wanted to do all day was to stay in bed. The first thing she did when she woke up was brushed her fingers along her lips, reflect on how Ardyn had stolen a number of kisses. Elyn slowly pulled the sheets up over her head to hide her blush, although no one was in the room with her. She reminded herself how little control she had around him and made a note that she should not kiss him alone in the back of a dark library again.
After a moment of collecting her thoughts and calming down, Elyn pulled herself out of bed. Fingers ran through those long strands of silver blonde, tying them up into a ponytail today. Every single move she made was because of Ardyn. She could still feel the ghost of his fingers running through her hair and thought that maybe if it was up and out of the way, he would be less tempted.
She slipped into another one of her simpler gowns, this one a deep purple that made her lighter hues stand out against it. Standing in front of a full-length mirror, Elyn stared at herself until she was satisfied with her own looks. The Kaliba family had a reputation for beautiful people, but Elyn was like any normal teenager… totally self-conscious.
She put on a pair of flat shoes before leaving her bedroom behind to start the day. She paused, thinking about heading down the path to Ardyn’s room, but she thought better than that. A dark library was bad enough. Instead, she went to where the cliffs were, wanting to watch the sea. She always loved the smell of it, but since meeting Ardyn it was all she could think about. New Arisalon was like a second home to her, but the sea? It could take her anywhere she wanted. Although she did have magic, she enjoyed the mundane ways of travel most.
Soon, she hoped, they could leave.

Ardyn’s own hair he had to secure, his hair was just long enough to be horrifically annoying when the wind picked up, and today was the kind of day that would carry a ship long and far. As much as he enjoyed Verity’s company, enjoyed the library (especially after last night) , and enjoyed Rosewyn’s doting hospitality, he knew that while he belonged her- he was destined for somewhere out there.
Usually he felt wistful when watching the sea. His departure from the Raven Islands hadn’t been without pain, and on occasion he found himself longing to return. However weighty, a man cannot think of origins when a pretty girl comes round. He was surprised she came to the cliffs, just like him. It was a peaceful place, but somehow wild- its height inviting the wind, the green of it reminding him of a complicated childhood at least around the best scenery.
“Good morning..” he said with a moment of nerves pushed down as he approached where she came. “It’s a beautiful day, don't’ you think?” He could've sunk through the grass, into the earth in sheer embarrassment. He wasn’t sure why everything he said seemed wrong. He could only fight back the constant barrage of images, sensations, memory of just how intense their first (several) kisses could be. He didn’t know what this is. But it had him thinking that it sure did beat his aimless wandering. Now he could wander with her.

She turned to face him. Although embarrassed, her face seemed to light up with a smile at the sight of him. “Ardyn…” She whispered his name, watching him for a moment before turning back to look at the crashing waves.
She was nervous, there was no denying that as she stood there wondering if she should keep space between them or run into his arms. She desperately wanted to have him hold her again, but that was also her hormones running wild.
“I… was just thinking about the sea. I, uhm,” Her hands continued to smooth out the material of the dress as it moved in the wind. She needed to do something with them! “I was just thinking about leaving this place with you. I really do want to go everywhere and see everything. Do you ever feel like you just want to keep going and never stop? Never settle?” Despite all their adventures, everyone seemed to eventually slow down. They got married, had children… While they were things Elyn was sure she would eventually want, she wasn’t sure if she liked the idea of ever keeping still.

She posed a good question. He turned to face her, leaning his hip against the rail. She looked radiant as usual, those light hued violet eyes had such a stare. He could read her a little better, he knew just how much she met his own wish to embrace as if the night’s sleep had been such a very long time.
He wanted to meet her in embrace, but instead he just smiled at the sight of her. The question he mused for a moment, keeping his hands to himself for now. “I don’t know. I’ve never really found a place I wanted to stay at for too long. I’ve enjoyed traveling, but I…” he shrugged. “ I don’t think I’ve found my home yet. I think when you find it, settling isn’t really what happens. But...I wouldn’t mind living on a boat or something.” That last sentence definitely came from a 17 year old boy.
“ It’s easy to like New Arisalon. I guess. It’s busy, and even though it’s going through a horrible time, I can see the beauty in it. But there is beauty everywhere. It’s our good luck to have the opportunity to find it.”

As she faced the rising sun, Elyn closed her eyes to embrace its warmth. But nothing compared to Ardyn now, even the sun. Lashes fluttered open, chanting her head to the side. "A boat?" She laughed at the idea, though it didn't come across as harsh. More so it sounded as if she was amused by the idea. "I've never been on a boat before. When I traveled to the temple of magic, my mother sort of had us meeting up with any cart who would take us north." The countryside was beautiful too.
"The first time I ever felt something like home, it was when I met my father." She leaned up against the railing, almost looking as if she wanted to stand on top of it, jump, and run away forever. It wasn't that anyone forced her to stay there. Ardyn really experienced that more than she ever did. But the idea of running away was so tempting. To leave the danger behind.... but Elyn wasn't a coward and she loved her family far too much.
"I feel very pathetic," she admitted with a shaky laugh. "I read a lot of books about romance and the beauty of it. Ardyn.... you have so much power over me. The world was always so black and white with me..." she blushed at how foolish she was. If her father thought someone was in the wrong, then they were in the wrong. Anyone against her family was against her. "I was so desperate to be part of the family I never got to be with as a child that I was blind to everything else around me. I know you have forgiven me, but I let you stay in that cell despite knowing what it could potentially do and now you're so willing to help my family; to help me. What did I ever do to deserve to have someone open my eyes to the world?"

He looked at her with an expression that seemed to reflect some measure of pity. He felt for her, carrying that around. He slid over to warm up beside her, and though he had intention of restraint, he gave in and slipped his arm around her, draped over her shoulders to bring her near against him. “Pathetic, would never define you.” Came his words almost like a rebuke.
He found that smile again, the one that had been plastered on his face since some time after his cold bath. “If I have power over you, it is dwarfed by the power you wield over me.” He said with quiet admission before leaning his head towards hers until the two of them touched briefly. “I cannot say what I would’ve done, if I thought something was a threat to you. So I can understand, your motives, your intent. You are not only forgiven, it is forgotten. I’ve seen what evil you and your father were trying to prevent.” His expression grew serious, but not sad. No, sorrow was far from him despite the guilt he felt on occasion that he did not mourn the strangers overly much. “ You deserve much better than me, Elyn. You’re kind- kinder than you’d like to admit. You’re intelligent, and we simply do not have the time to go gushing over everything else you are in excess. If you were blind before me, know that I was rather aimless before you. It’s similar enough, don’t you think?”

Eyes drunk him in, starting from his face all the way down to his feet. She found comfort as his arm wrapped around her. Although hormones didn't go away, she didn't feel the same desire at the moment as she did the night before. Right now, talking to him, everything was different.
"I don't see myself as some emotional girl all tangled up with some boy." She wrinkled her nose as the last word left her lips. "I didn't anyways..." she wore a hint of a smile. Despite he serious topic, she still felt happy.
"Oh Ardyn...." she sighed and laughed at the same time. "I look forward to the both of us learning everything together." She made no comment on whether she deserved better because she was sure they could go in circles all day.
"Teach me how to dance."

He couldn’t help but smile at her command. It sounded like music, it lulled him to comfort even as he began to imagine just how to do that. Considering the premise, he nodded to himself only after he found himself the proper idea.
The Magisters sold music, held in Aetherium that brought music to life in waves of sound. He couldn’t entirely afford one of them, but maybe if he borrowed one? Or maybe if he took her there? The gears turned and he nodded. “How about tomorrow night?”
Now he was committed. Tomorrow night, he was going to teach her how to dance. “The Great Hall, after everyone has went to sleep. It’s got plenty of space, enough light. It’ll work perfectly.” The hall had acoustics, and it was closed up at night. No one would be around and she’d have her privacy. “Just past midnight.”
Young love was something entirely new to him, but he had decided he was going to give it all that he had. He’d read of such gestures- it was past time someone did it for Elyn. She was a princess, more or less.

"Tomorrow?" She hadn't really thought he would come up with a time and a place that fast. She pondered over it, using the time to think as an excuse to stare at him. Her lips pulled up into a bright smile, nodding in agreement. "It's a date then!"
While Zephyr was kind enough to teach her a little, she was rather interested to know what it was like to dance with someone who wasn't dancing with you out of obligation becase you were their cousin.

Ardyn didn't hold back on his effort. Despite the odd crowd here and there, things were peaceful enough in New Arisalon, showing a kind of calm before the storm. Things had went about as bad as they reasonably could.
It took him half the morning just to find someone who'd sell him the Song Spheres, as they'd been marketed. It was outrageous in cost, and he certainly didn't have the coin without selling some of his minor 'loot'. He'd been lucky enough to find a driftglobe on a little crawl through a dungeon. His profits from that little expedition gave him enough to buy two of the Spheres and he didn't even have to sit through a long explanation of how it worked. Oddly enough it required little more than the tap of a finger.
The Sphere was able to vibrate the air just like an orchestra would, or a band, or some other kind of entertainer. It could play only one song, though like most arrangements that could extend to considerable length. With that acquired, he'd need only find the right clothes...
When he was essentially ready he went to set up their place in the Great Hall keen on his surprise, and hoping Elyn wouldn't think it too foolish.

Tonight was not the night to wear commoners clothing. Elyn wondered if she should have consulted Lilwen or Shelzi first, but it was far too late for that as she stood in front of the mirror in her room. She wore plenty of dresses for all sorts of occasions. There were even two in her wardrobe that were for the really special parties. As special as Ardyn was, this was not one of those occasions.
The dress was of white and soft pink silk. The fabric hugged her body until it reached her hips, flowing out slightly in decorative layers until it touched the floor. Her hair was left down again, although she pulled it all to one side, letting it hang over her shoulder.
Elyn snuck through the halls silently, peering around the corners just to make sure no one was there. The last thing she needed was for her father to ruin her... again! Rather carefully, Elyn pushed open the great hall's doors, shutting them behind her. A gentle sigh of relief left her lips before she gaze around the room.
Ardyn had certainly outdone himself.

Ardyn had brought in flowers he had spread in a ring around a place on the floor- even smooth stone, perfect for movement if not a little hard on the feet. The room carried their fragrance, while paper lanterns shielded lit candles both on the floor and upon the table he'd brought in to the side, laden with some wine and some water, fruits and whatever else the kitchen would give him. He hadn't been wrong, the place was deserted- and the seat of power for such a nation was currently her dance hall. No other people, not even a band- but the soft and gentle music that emanated from a smooth white sphere which rested on a small prop.
Ardyn was dressed in black trousers, fitted for him just earlier this week at Rosewyn's request. He wore a gentleman's waistcoat of a deep blue, while his shirt was pressed and starched, unlike the functional clothing he usually wore. The collar of the shirt was high, accentuating neck and his broad shoulders. He smiled as she walked in, his breath easily took away at the sight of her. "Hello, Elyn..." he said with a teasing bow. " You look stunning." he said, as he took a few steps forward to her. The white was so soft, even just to look at- and the way it showed each curve above her waist was something he was just too male to ignore.

For a moment, Elyn was sure her breath stopped. She was so focused on the sight of the room that she almost forgot to let out an exhale. When she did, the sound of a whimsical laugh escaped. "Ardyn... so do you! So does this room!" Her eyes finally settled on him. The room was beautiful, of course, but he... he had her blushing.
"Are you sure you're not some suave prince from a far away land?" She arched a brow, taking slow steps towards him. Despite her tone, Elyn was nervous. The kissing in the library was wild and fun, but this was far more romantic. She was rather pleased though to not be fumbling over her words. She was also pleasantly surprised that she managed to walk right up to him, taking the moment to just admire him.

" Technically, I could be." He said with a smile as he shifted to the side as she walked up and gestured to the floor and it's marked boundaries. " I figured we could start with a waltz?" he said, getting right to business. He figured if he didn't things would just get awkward, maybe heated. They didn't have the best track record when alone. It was either yelling at each other, or kissing. And..uh. Whatever else that happened when he was trapped between her legs. She'd had no problem learning as she went, that was for sure. It had clouded his thoughts all of yesterday, and considerably more oddly enough the closer they got to tonight.
"Also.. I'm really glad you like it. I was a little nervous it would be foolish. "

She gave him a look that said he wasn't wrong before she followed him to the dance floor. Hues lingered on the ground, trying to take it all in and not be nervous. Although she had a lot to be nervous about (like being alone with a boy she liked kissing), Elyn was mostly nervous about looking like a fool. Seemed like she wasn't the only one. "No, I love it." What girl didn't like romantic gestures anyways? "So then," she mustered up enough courage to look at him again. "Shall we dance?"

The Sphere came to life, it's arcane glow accompanied with the beginning swells of strings, horns, and percussion- the music was rather alert if considerably rhythmic. "You see, with the Waltz..." he explained as he put his hand at her waist and guided her hand to his shoulder. His other hand of course took her own in his. " It has a kind of bouncing rhythm, but with a kind of sensual restraint. You want to be fluid...want to be airy, like a gentle breeze stirring water. That's whay my teacher told me." They were close, and the way her dress flowed out it made the softest swish at their movement across the floor. He guided her through the first steps at the 3/4 time signature. " Peasants made this dance, the nobility adopted it only after becoming bored with the minuet..." he said with the kind of trivia you say when you don't want someone to notice just how much you're looking them over. " We move clockwise form the left, and we turn- all our movements eventually having us rotating around each other." He explained and lead her also through that- while the demonstration was quick he slowed in order to gauge where else they'd need to go.

The moment they started dancing was the same moment Elyn finally showed how awkward she was. Part of it was due to the fact that she was thinking about how close they were. The other part was because her eyes were focused on their feet more than anything else.
She moved with a certain amount of grace. Her training gave her the agility and flexibility to dance, but Elyn often avoided being asked by someone when she was younger. Back then, boys were sort of gross creatures. Boy, had she been wrong.
The awkwardness didn't stop her from smiling. She felt free in the movement and kept up with him with ease. She carefully counted the steps in her head, using her focus as an excuse to not focus so much on him.
"You're like a book, I swear. How to you remember all this stuff?"

"I'm not sure. Is that weird?" He replied, being quite honest in the admission. Ardyn didn't know how he retained information so well, and sometimes he found that he retained information he couldn't for the life of him know how it learned it. All the same, here they were, and if he noticed her awkward attempts at som of the steps he didn't show it. Once she was free in the steps, he leaned in close to bring them cheek to cheek for a moment. "You're dancing very well, you know." he whispered before slipping back into the position.
