Elyn wasn't the best dancer- truly she only knew the basics. On top of that, dancing wasn't something she did in her past time, but rather it was to be practiced for Rosewyn's fancy parties. However, she had enough grace to her movements that she could keep up with ease.
The music was just loud enough that it managed to overpower the sound of her heart in her head. She focused on that and the way her body moved with his. While her feet moved along the floor, her eyes chose to remain on him.
Elyn still felt comfortable and less awkward the more time she spent with him. Only her comfort wasn't on the fact that they could have a decent conversation without fumbling over their words. This time it was about the way her torso brushed against his in one fluid movement and the way her hands fit so perfectly in his; how he lead her around the floor.
Courage returned to her, taking the chance to close whatever space remained between them and have her lips meet with his.

Music continued, but his movements stopped her drew his arms about her and brought her in at that kiss. His lips parted in reply slightly, more in surprise and less in acquiescence. He had not expected this, not from her- He had realized only recently (right before their first kiss) that their feelings were reciprocal. Short days later, he had other such ideas. They were in fact falling for each other. He hesitated to know what that meant, but he did not doubt it. This kiss was so welcome, one she took for herself, and one he freely gave in return.
One arm snaked around her slender waist, cinched against the snug fabric that hugged curves, the flowing skirts ruffled and sprawled between them. His other arm followed his hand that smoothed up the length of her spine to the back of her neck, guiding her further into the kiss she so boldly stole.
He would’ve waited till the end of the song. He was very glad she didn’t.

It was only in the middle of the kiss that Elyn realised she couldn't recall making the move. It was as if her body just acted on its own. Not that she was complaining. She could taste the strawberry that he ate moments ago and the wine on his lips. They were so sweet and not just because of the drink.
The kiss was like a moment of relief, despite her growing desire. She had wanted to kiss him since they said goodnight and only now found the proper moment. While it did interrupt their dance, she figured this was better than interrupting their conversation.
Despite the heat that trailed along her body every time he touched her, she shivered lightly at his touch. Her arms were around his neck with her fingers laced together behind him. Her body leaned forward ever so slightly, pushing herself up against his body.
Elyn found it only fair to steal this kiss since he stole her first... and.. however many times they kissed last night.

Crescendo of the music should of made him stop, but he decided he’d do so until he had to come up for air. Then he realized he could breathe through his nose, and their rhythmic breathing became yet another thing he’d remember about the moments in which they were wrapped in affection. Feeling her pull with her arms around his neck, feeling the way she turned to him- leaned into him, he realized at this rate they will of kissed in every room in the People’s Palace.
Hesitant, no reluctant- he drew his lips away and while he should of had something to say he didn’t. He did however have a dumb look on his face, more or less struck by the action. He found his words only if allowed- he did keep his lips in close proximity after all.

Elyn could barely hear the music, it was far too quiet compared to the way her mind raced. She had to keep reminding herself that they were supposed to be dancing, but she didn't seem too concerned about that. Kissing him had a way of making her feel lost. She forgot she was in People's Palace.. forgot they were in a room that someone could easily walk into.
Her eyes were dazed, drunk of the sudden bold move. Lashes fluttered a few times before settling on his gaze. Her chest rose and fell in a steady pace, but her she felt so out of breath. "I..." She just then realized what the heck was going.
"I am so sorry..." She was glad he didn't have abilities like Verity, because she wasn't sorry at all. "I don't know why I did that.." There was some truth in that statement. Her cheeks flushed.

"You speak as if you didn't give me a gift." he said quizzically. His lips parted for a moment moistened by a sweep of his tongue, able to taste her on his lips or so he imagined. His arms relaxed somewhat around her..but each inch they withdrew was a battle he didn't want to win. The reluctance built and soon won out, their embrace hanging by a delicate thread.
"Don't apologize for that... If anything apologize for making me wait so long." He said with a joking lilt, but a dedicated earnest appeal. The rise and fall of her chest, the flush of her cheeks, all of it served to strengthen that bond, to deepen that want. "And if you ever figure out why, let me know. I'll make sure to give you constant reason."

Elyn selfishly didn't take that into consideration. She cared deeply about him, but she kissed him for her own sake, not his. And she was glad she did. Her own arms stayed where they were, as if it was he who was keeping her knees from giving out. Elyn found it a challenge to not swoon at his presence.
"Ah," she said with a grin. "Next time I'll just kiss you the moment I see you." She teased. Her blush still there, but she certainly felt less embarrassed. "I mean, there is the simple fact that I like kissing you." Although she had to remind herself that every time she kissed him, her mind began to wander further than she was sure she could handle.

No doubt, Ardyn was beginning to think that was a feature and not a bug. "I thought I was the only one... You almost didn't make it into the door." he said renewing the embrace at her subtle signal, his hands framing either side of her waist to the top of her hips. "I miss the library. Less chance of people coming along." he said with a grin easily categorized as rakish.
" You know...I couldn't leave here if I wanted to." he blurted out. The admission seemed to be said with an almost surprise. "I'm not going to say, Oh, I could not live without you. But I will say, I'm not sure why I would ever choose to."

"I wouldn't have complained! Then you wouldn't have found out that I could actually dance," she laughed, holding herself against him. A single brow arched at the library comment. "I feel like we might be in a very different situation if we were in the library." Elyn was a lady of sorts- there were some things she didn't say. But as a hormonal teenager, she could at least admit to herself that she found their situation a little exciting. They seemed to pick strange spots to kiss and flirt with the idea more.
"I think we could very well survive on our own," she agreed. "However, I don't think I could fully live and appreciate life without you. Is that cliche?" She always wondered about romance and such from the stories she read. She saw the way Reign was with Shelzi... how disgustingly smitten they were together. And yet here she was, in the same boat. "I like the idea of together... for a really, really long time."

He couldn't echo that, as much as he wanted to. Something about 'really long time' seemed unfamiliar to a person who was seventeen, and further- more than a little messed up on his perception of time. And while she didn't 'say' anything- he still understood what she did say. "As it gets later- I do think we might want to clear out from here. I paid one of the servants to clean up...are you ready for bed? I can walk you to your room.."
He paused a little longer than he expected before speaking. "Or I could...walk you anywhere really." She was the one with the magic, or rather the full control of it. His was so drawn to his body, he wasn't sure he'd ever get the kind of power she had. Ironic that she thought him powerful, and he thought her the same.

Elyn didn't say forever for the very same reason. "You really thought all this out," she said as she took one more look around the room. "Again, Ardyn, it was really well done and I'm glad that we got to dance. It was fun." And she was flushed. She did end up dropped her arms, placing her hands over his only to pull herself away and lead him towards the door.
There were too many thoughts wandering through her mind. She thought about the idea of heading to her room, but she also knew that was a little risky. Just thinking about what she wanted to do had her blushing. "Uhm, let's just walk? Maybe... not to either of our rooms or the library." She huffed in slight disappointment.

He nodded. He intended to walk her to her room and leave her there, but perhaps it was lost in translation. He let himself be lead, and he nodded at her offering. "You know the place better than I... I'll follow your lead. The palace is starting to feel like a prison isn't it?" He asked after a good bit of a walk.
He couldn't say it didn't have certain comforts, but it was difficult to be a person who was used to wandering, to going from place to place and building a life for a season and abandoning it on a whim. He hadn't done that out of pleasure or choice, but something else. " I must admit I'm getting restless in more than one way." he said as he offered his arm. He didn't mind them being seen by servants, they were quickly becoming an open secret.

She took his arm, carefully leading them down the hall as she focused on each step she took. She wasn't quite sure where she would take them, but as long as she got to spend time with him, she didn't mind. "A prison?" She thought about it and couldn't help but agree. Although she was sure that was more for him than her. She was invited here as a family memeber where he... started off a prisoner. Although he obviously no longer was, he was still requested to stay.
"I can't say I'm not glad you stayed, but part of me wishes you would have managed to escape when you had the chance. I seriously thought you were going to when we last fought." By now she could laugh about it- and she did. She glanced up at him, her head canted to the side with silver blonde strands falling around her shoulder. "Restless in what ways then?"

" It's as if we are paused. The whole world really. I went out today to get the stuff for tonight, and I realized it. We can't leave, not yet. It wouldn't be right. While your father has tutored me, and I know he's helping..." He shook his head, "It's stupid. What matters is that I found you here. I can stick around as long as it takes to be able to take you with me." He reached out pushing her fixed braid back, his thumb brushing against the side of her temple as he reached over.
" I'm just being impatient. About a lot of things. Leaving. You." he admitted. He didn't seem too sorry about it. "I suppose we'll just need to take a breath." He said with the disapointment in his voice slowly leaking past his reserve.

Brows knitted together in confusion. "Helping what? It's not stupid..." She clung to everything he said; it was impossible for her to just drop anything or ignore it. Elyn wasn't like that. She did expect him to wait or at least try to. Had he asked to leave now, he would have known her answer. She couldn't leave her family in their current state. Especially her father. He might not be able to fight (she was concerned at the sight of that cane) but that didn't mean she couldn't in his place.
She stopped him in the middle of one of the halls, stepping out in front of him only to wrap her ar,s around his waist. Her head rested against the top of his chest. "We don't have to." While there was a hint of desire in her voice, Elyn wasn't just speaking about the sensual things. "I don't think it's supposed to be perfect or planned. I don't care if we fall down some hole unsure of ourselves. Whatever happens, happens." While she did agree taking things slow was... probably for the best, she didn't want either of them to feel trapped or forced into doing the 'right' thing. Elyn wasn't even sure what the right thing was.

He didn't know what to do, he didn't think he meant it quite like that. He wasn't sure what he was asking, and they had stopped, and she was looking at him ith that look tinted with want, confusion, desperation, a way in which they both seemed lost. " Your dad is helping me, because he wants to. There isn't anything weird about it, just.... I'm learning here. But I just...I preach about patience and I've got so little of it! I want to fight and learn, I want to see the world. I want to start our story, instead of watching someone elses play out. I want to help your family... but this waiting... It's maddening."
He took a breath, and looked embarassed by the outburst. "See. Silly. I should remember, that it is only a season. We have plenty of time. But about this other thing... Oh, it wouldn't be perfect. It needs not be planned. But I'm sure we'll be happy enough with the results."

She was laughing once more, but it was a rather comforting sound. One that wasn't mocking him or suggesting what he said was petty. Although she did find the outburst amusing. Perhaps even needed. "I think we're often the last ones to follow our own advice. You're allowed to feel that way." Mostly because she felt it too. She felt ashamed by it, but it was hard when she saw so many of them still living their lives. Laelia still did her job and Zephyr went with her. Her father and Shelzi were so close to having their child.
Hopefully, this 'war' would end soon and they would find the person behind it. And then there was this other thing. There was so much going on, Elyn didn't want to ask what that was. She could. however, agree with the end results. "I'm sure. I have no doubt about that." She reached up to kiss him again, but this time, instead of giving into her own desire, she gently pressed her lips to his cheek before pulling away to start walking again.
"You know, part of me hates how I have no idea what I'm doing.... but I also think there's not really much to know." How hard could love, sex, travel... whatever came up in their life be?

"Yeah..." he said smiling at her kiss to his cheek. It had been that which had started everything. "I don't think either one of us appreciates uncertainty in what we know." He said his hand sliding over the small of her back, a gesture of claiming. It came so naturally, he didn't seem entirely sure he was doing it. It was the thing he had seen countless men do with their ladies, and he nearly looked down to his hand in shock but schooled his expression better.
" I'm sure we'll know everything we need to know as we need to know it...but I mean... You do have people who could help. While I can't exactly ask anyone- you've got Shelzi. I mean, she seems like the type who would want to help." He said it all half-joking, but not quite.

She didn't seem to comment or mind the fact that his hand was guiding her at the small of her back. It made her feel safe against him. "Doesn't everyone sort of start out this way?" A question perhaps better suited for someone else.
Suddenly her face turned red and her eyes remained forward. "I..." She almost joked about him asking her father, but that was a cruel joke she didn't want coming out of her lips. "I do have Shelzi, but... There's something strange about talking to the woman who is about to give birth to my sister." Elyn cringed, covering her face with her hands. She did not imagine having this sort of conversation with Ardyn. It was easier just kissing and seeing where things were going.

"Yeah, of course. " he said in agreement. He didn't really know how to balance that sort of thing- what would family and friends do, what they couldn't. His family had been...unique. Her's could categorized at the same. They were getting closer to the morning the longer they walked and talked- so he finally lead, and guided her to take the turn to the wing where rooms were located.
" In all my complaining, and all our meandering talk of well. The most awkward of things... I don't want to go one evening here, during our sentence in the Palace.." he turned to her his hand at her back shifting up a bit to her sides, so that hands rested high at the side of her ribcage. "I don't want to go one night without telling you, how much you mean to me... How lucky I am to of stumbled into your path that night. I'd do it all again...and I'd do this all again." Perhaps if he were being honest, or was a bit older, he would've said all that the short way. But those three words were difficult to ponder all the way through...and once he said them he'd never take them back.
In the pause before he left when her door was open, he reached for her shortly after she left his side. Where good nights had been said and cute words exchanged, he did something that did not need words. His hands brought her close, having reached one for her side the other for her shoulder to turn her round and against him, his lips searing a kiss upon her own. This kiss was different. While others they had shared happened with tinges of want and heavy breath, this one was one marked separate from the norm. His teeth caught her bottom lip in the moment he pulled away only enough to rejoin her, lips parted to allow the tip of his tongue to slip past her lips and find her own in passion fueled exploration. It was brief, but there- his hand at her side trailing down amidst the soft silk to her skirts, a caress that traveled down her covered hip, while his weight was pressed against her to put her against the doorframe. Breathlessly, he finally separated... and with a gleam in his eye, he said, "Good Night." And retreated quickly down the hall with two steps backward and a pivot around.

The kiss from the night before had Elyn wondering how he was able to walk away. For a moment she leant up against the doorframe, watching him walk away to his room before retreating into her own. The next morning she found herself trying not to imagine too many things about Ardyn. Elyn wasn't sure how much longer she was going to go with just thinking about it, but she pushed those thoughts aside the best she could for now.
After agreeing with Ardyn's comment about feeling trapped, she came up with an idea that would likely annoy her father by stealing the boy away from his studies. She knew the situation well enough that her father didn't linger too much and Ardyn had some time to study on his own.
She slipped into one of her dresses- a simple navy blue cotton dress that certainly didn't mark her as much of a princess, but it was the most common one she wore. The cotton material was soft against her figure and gave her plenty of room to move in case there was danger. Not that she was going anywhere dangerous... But she opted out on the slacks and the shirt for the day.
After teasing her hair and letting it fall around her shoulders, Elyn pressed her hand against her door and whispered a spell. Then she turned on her heel and went running to the library in search of the boy she liked.

She was right, it was the library. She was also right in her assumption that it had been entirely too difficult to walk away. He’d spent the rest of that hour before bed trying to calm himself down and wondering why his towel kept being folded up like a swan, and why he was left so many damned mints. He woke up the next morning not too concerned with towels or mints, and dressed quickly in a pair of brown trousers Rosewyn had the staff provide, and a loose poet’s shirt embroidered at the cuffs of the sleeves with blue vines of ivy. He as usual, strapped his sword belt on afterward, because it was needed in the library.
He looked exasperated when she arrived, another stack of books devoured and piles of notes put in neat stacks. She’d experienced Reign’s trial by fire, and apparently he did the same with Ardyn. The mass amount of information he was expected to digest was impossible, and the practical training which happened earlier in the morning and again in the afternoon was often self guided until Reign came in to move the goalposts and turn it brutal.
He seemed to be cursing under his breath, disturbed at how he just couldn’t understand what the treatise on magic was saying. The numbers were nonsensical, the formula utterly backwards. He was beginning to think he wasn’t supposed to understand. He was oblivious to everything but his frustration at the moment.

After all the seriousness of last night and the fact that she felt rather high on life because of Ardyn, Elyn found her mood to be light and playful, unlike the one who was bent over a stack of books. She bit her lower lip, wondering if it was even a good idea, but if she didn't do it now, they might not have a chance later when her father was around.
"I think he's trying to punish you," she said as she looked over all the books. Some things she knew, others... not so much. Reign's training methods were difficult, but Elyn survived by knowing when to push herself and when not to. Although Reign was perhaps a little nicer since she was only a child at the time and his daughter. "Good morning..." She grinned.
"Come with me... Take a break." She moved around the table to take his hand and weakly attempt to pull him up from his chair. "All of this looks horribly boring and I'm fun."

“My savior…” he said sardonically, before ceasing his horrible mood in spite of him being there for at least an hour. He couldn’t help but acknowledge her point. It did *feel* like Reign punished him, but something about it had a good intention he couldn’t quite place. Elyn’s family was strange.
“Good morning, Doll.” he said trying out a term of endearment, and subconsciously deciding he didn’t like it. He rose from the chair at her prompting and stole a kiss on her cheek in greeting. “And yes… take me away from this mess. I could use some fun.” he said dismissing the work behind him in a very un-Arisalonian way.

As he stood up, Elyn took both of his hands and stood in front of him. She thought of kissing him, but then changed her mind and let out a sigh instead. Now was not the time. Or maybe it was, but she wasn't letting it happen.
"I've put a ward to alert me if things get crazy here. We'll know if something bad happens, but I don't think we have too long anyways." She looked to the pile of books, certainly not jealous. "I'm sure my father will be back soon, but... He has Shelzi to take care of." Shelzi was a wonderful woman who Elyn loved. And Elyn loved the moments that her father was wrapped around the woman's finger.
"Ready? Admittedly, I've never really done this on my own with another person." She blinked, only then realizing the dangers, but Elyn also trusted her own powers. She closed her eyes, feeling the world around her fade. She didn't give Ardyn much of a warning, which she did feel guilty for, but that didn't stop her. Grey wrapped around them as People's Palace faded from view.
As she opened her eyes, all the books, People's Palace, and New Arisalon was gone. Instead, they were surrounded by a forest. The trees were thick enough that if they looked down any path all they would see is darkness. However, in this small area there was a pool of sunlight and what looked to be an old temple. It wasn't exactly falling apart, but it certainly was slightly crushed in... as if when the light and darkness took over, it sucked all of the power from the temple.
"This," she gestured to the broken stairs, "is what's left of the old temple of magic." It wasn't some grand adventure in Silem, but it took them away from the palace for a while. They didn't have to hide in the corner of a library or stare at the same hallway over and over again.
"For this moment, Ardyn, we are not prisoners. We're free." She looked up at the sky. "At least until the sun reached the horizon... Then we have to go back or my father might send the whole army looking for us."

First, he expected to feel dizzy. He had read about the disorientation of such travel, and he had severely expected to be less than immune. Instead he felt it as natural as walking. When his eyes adjusted he looked at her with the kind of appreciation that went deeper than her dazzling appearance. He was beginning to not just like her, not just find her fetching, but adore her.
“Yes...We’re free.” he said with a small expression of gratitude and a nod in her direction. It was a moment in which he marveled at her, his glance soon turning to the area they were in. The forest seemed to be filled with mystery, an almost foreboding darkness surrounding a warm clearing in which the sun he swore, felt better here than elsewhere.
With a smile he went straight off towards the stairs, intent to explore this little ruin of a place. “Army or not...I intend to enjoy this, don’t you?” he said obviously excited to be in a place not surrounded with chaos, imposing walls, or his girl’s parents.

Her eyes watched him in order to appreciate his reaction. She wanted to learn everything about him and that included on what he looked like after learning that someone had given him a gift. She knew her father was trying to help him in his own way... and she figured that despite being a typical father, he did accept Ardyn. But Elyn felt like she was the only one who listened. Throwing books at him and helping him come to terms with his powers was great, but one could only handle so much of feeling trapped.
"I didn't just bring us here for you," she said with laughter. Elyn ran of the familiar steps turning at the door to allow him a moment to catch up. "I don't know what's left of this place, but it was beautiful when it was a full building."
Elyn slipped into the shadows of the temple. The sun gave them enough light to just see a few feet ahead of them at a time, which was more than Elyn needed, really.
"It looks more like a maze now. I don't even remember what path would lead to my room or the library." She shrugged, kicking aside some of the rubble so she could walk up the path towards the old altar. "I spent a lot of time here..."

“ I’d expect nothing less. What’s good for you, is invariably good for me.” he said with a playful smirk as he took position behind her, if only because she knew the architecture. “What was it like having a goddess as a step mother? Did she come around often? Did you get the run of this place?” He asked running his hand across the stone inside, a smooth space here, a crack there.
“The place must’ve been a beautiful place. It still has a charm to it…” he said picking up a piece of rubble and weaving magic to create an orbiting glow around it. Just like the spatula, he turned it into a light for the time being.
“ Growing up here...it must’ve been so different than your world before.” he mused. She had out done herself. Certainly improved on his remodeling of the imposing great hall. “You might not remember...but that ensures it’s a mutual adventure.” he pointed out staying close not out of protectiveness but preference.

"It was weird, let me tell that. I went from having a mom who hates magic to a step mom who *is* magic. I did have a lot of fun here though. People liked me, although I think they realized a lot sooner than I did that I was Reign's daughter." She was innocent and naive as a child who didn't really think to put two and two together until she started training with him more.
"It really was though. People practiced everywhere! It was amazing to see all everyone's abilities. It's a little creepy now though." However, if she had any hesitation, she didn't show it. Elyn kept moving forward, deeper into the old temple. Books were scattered everywhere, sometimes random objects showed up. There was still a hint aura left behind, despite the change of the gods.

He kept pace, looking over the books some ruined- some not. The place had an airiness to it. A freedom of expression. He supposed magic didn’t care, didn’t have philosophies or sides. “Change, isn’t always for the better.” He said considering the floor. Broken runes lined the tile… wards having long since lost their charge.
“ People practicing...everywhere. Perhaps that’s what the world is missing. I don’t see very many people working to sustain anything. Just destroy something. Protect something. We should be sure not to get too soft in our adventures.” he said with a smile and a poke to her side.
“ Thanks for getting me out of there. I’m already feeling better.” he said looking over a cracked bust of an elven enchantress.
