Elyn reflected on old memories of running down these halls. She missed the simpler times where she had nothing to worry about other than trying to make her father proud and learn her magic. Now she stressed out about everything... mostly the fact that there was a boy involved in her life and there were things she didn't know.
"It still happens," she said thoughtfully. "Us? Soft? Never!" She stuck her tongue out at him before she found an open hold in the temple and went to rest against the opening. She peered out at the dark forest, wondering what life was like hidden between the trees.
"I'm glad. After last night, I couldn't help but agree. New Arisalon is lovely, but it's nice to just come and go as you please. Now it's a little bit of a struggle to do so. Either way, I thought us getting outside those walls would help. Clear our heads a little."

“Yeah.” he said as he settled up behind her. He took liberty with his hands, not to incite some deep passion but to comfort, the kind of casual affection that might show he was getting a little better at this whole boy thing. His hands splayed over her waist and he moved his body to fit behind her, snug but not too invasive to her space. Looking out into the trees, he found it remarkably peaceful. The numbers and formula of those books, the exacting incantations, it was good to get this relaxation.
“But I dunno…” he said squeezing at her with either hand. “You could get soft. I mean… you never know. We’ll have to keep getting in trouble, golems and stuff I guess.” He said before remembering something he meant to of said previously.
“You know, you kind of blew me away that first night. I don’t think you realize how many people didn’t lose everything because of your quick thinking… I know you were too busy making fun of my falling, but you might of missed the part where you were amazing.” he said in admiration.

It wasn't much, but it was something. Elyn enjoyed the view too. She blinked, turning her head just enough to see him come up behind her and wrap his arms around her. She put her hands over his and leaned her head back against his shoulder. The sounds of animals moving through the trees was similar to music in the back of her mind.
"True, I suppose. Everyone I know seems to have changed. Or settled? I dunno. I think there will always be something to keep us on our toes." She was a Kaliba after all.
She blushed at the compliment but shook her head gently. "I think it was all of us. But, I mean, you falling was quite a distraction. I can't believe you and Zephyr though! It was really amazing what you both did."

“ It was only partially stupid.” He said with a chuckle. “ But honestly, Zephyr is quite the warrior. Just...overzealous. Not hard to imagine why.” he didn’t comment on himself, as if such praise was too embarrassing. He did however not have the humility to keep getting called out on falling.
“You’re still not going to let that go eh? There was an explosion. I thought it would be more understood that it was a good idea to get away- less than gracefully.” He said before putting his lips to the back of her earlobe in a light kiss.
“You know, some people would’ve seen it for incomparable bravery.” He said with a taunting grin before finding he had fallen into a trap, the scent of her hair...oh jeeze. He had almost made it a full minute without having any significant thoughts that lead him to the restlessness that gripped him.

"I mean, yes, it's important to get away from danger than linger around. I was kind of hoping the both of you would listen to Verity shouting at you to come back down though..." There was still the light and playful tone in her voice. "I think it's a male thing?" She was grinning.
Elyn froze as she felt his lips touch her skin. He was a distraction. What were they talking about? Oh yes... the golem attack. "Bravery? Maybe..." But she was no longer thinking about the fall or the golem right then. It was rather painful to have to constantly try and keep herself from thinking about him.
Something told her that if she kept moving, they would for sure be safe. And yet her body didn't want to move.

He surprised himself by withdrawing, a slow motion that while reluctant was insistent. He didn’t want to get in the loop that could easily ensnare them, and yet while pressing forward he thought of embracing...feeling those legs wrapped around his waist, the searing warmth of her lips, the taste of the skin down her throat...
Damn.
He’d forgot why he was drawing away. He was pretty sure it was because he didn’t want to short change her adventure, or make love in a ruin. Seemed like it’d be bad luck, and he didn’t think he had too many “No, we should stop” left in the tank.

Elyn stood there for a moment watching the forest before turning to follow him. Her expression was that of confusion and desire- Elyn was a complicated person at the best of times, but when it came to this... relationship she was constantly wondering what was the good thing to do.
She watched him before hesitantly following him. For a moment Elyn was silent, thinking the same things he was although she didn't know it. Still, she pushed forward and put on a smile that said that it was okay.

At her silence, Ardyn was at least 75% sure he had messed up. Which of course caused the avalanche of awkward all young couples experience when a date takes a right when you expect left. He ambled over a crumbling pillar that wasn’t load bearing. He proceeded in relatively silence, only partially intrigued as time went by.
Finally he spoke, his attention too split between the ruins and her to bear it any longer. “I uh..I wasn’t supposed to leave that was I?” he asked looking over his shoulder at her as they entered a long narrow room in which the walls were an inky black stone.

Elyn explored with little interest, although she still was glad to be there. Awkward or not, Elyn enjoyed being around him. She followed at a close enough distance. Her eyes traveled along the walls and the floor, every now and then catching a glimpse of him.
"What?" She met his gaze, a small blush on her cheeks. "I... honestly I don't know." She tried to avoid the topic by walking past him and heading into the room. It looked rather strange. She ran her hand along the wall, slowly exploring it.
"It's fine, Ardyn. Truly!" She smiled back at him. "I think we'll know when the moment is right." She turned away to wrinkle her nose at the thought. Her stomach turned, feeling rather strange. As if there was some disappointment every time they stopped kissing. Not with him... frustration, perhaps? She didn't know.

“Yeah, I mean… no reason to dwell or anything,” he said with a nervous chuckle. He didn’t believe her about that whole, when the moment is right. Further he didn’t always know if they were talking about sex. Most often he thought he had just cut something short, or perhaps wounded her by his disengagement. Oddly enough he was less worried about sex than her perception.
That is not to say he wasn’t worried about sex. The inky black walls held strong against the collapse, and as her hand touched them the cold stone turned warm gradually. Ardyn glanced around the walls, his brow arching in interest the ceiling had that same stone- and instead of warmth, he thought he could see it reveal pinpricks of light in the familiar arrangement. The room was oddly cold but according to the ruins structure, it shouldn't have had a draft.

The room's entire ambience was chilled, stark, and quickly lighting up along the ceiling into the pin pricks of light looked no unlike a night sky in which not just stars were visible but other heavenly bodies. The black walls were warm to the touch and the inky substance within the stone shifted in counter to her touch. Something about the room was responding, reacting to Elyn.
Something about the room felt familiar, but she was right. She had not been in this room, she had not seen the room and if landmarks were to be believed it shouldn't be here. In the middle of the room there rested a pedestal made of a shaft of black stone rising from the floor in stark contrast, almost like a spike erupting from earth. It looked like volcanic rock, but polished somehow. At it's precipice was a rounded basin of tarnished silver, at closer inspection covered with runic inlay- repeated in such a way that it was nonsensical. Within the basis was a silvery liquid looking like molten metal but exuding no heat.
"This place...isn't something you remember? It seems like it hasn't changed. Look...there isn't even dust. " Ardyn said looking around the room curiously as he inched closer to her for their mutual comfort.

Elyn pulled her hand back, blinking at the wall before looking over the Ardyn. "No... Not at all. This is new, I think..." Her eyes sparked with excitement. However, Elyn wasn't entirely new at the whole exploring thing... She was careful in her step, looking around at everything.
She moved to the center of the room, taking his hand in hers for comfort. Her other hand lingered over the liquid, waiting to feel for heat but none came. Still, she wasn't sure she should touch it just yet.
"It has to be used for something. I assume related to magic, but seeing as how this is now ruins, I'm not even sure about that."

"The whole place feels kind of weird, doesn't it? It's warm, it's cold, it has a sensation that sticks to you." Ardyn said looking around still a bit mesmerized by what they had found. It reminded him of the Cave, but that was something he deigned to keep to himself just yet.
The liquid didn't bubble but instead seemed to stretch a stream of it, as if water somehow flowing up towards her hand before dropping back down to the rest of the liquid's composition.
Closer to the Basin, you could see just how the room opened out. From here the walls seemed very far away, the doorway which had lead in was concealed. Ardyn squeezed her hand at the movement of the liquid, and gave her a tug back. "What is that stuff..."

"Yea..." She was half listening, half watching the liquid with curiosity. Elyn felt strange and more curious than she normally was about things. Her hand lingered over the basin as it reached out towards her, only snapping out of it when Ardyn pulled her back. She blinked, looking around the room.
"Are we trapped in here? What way did we come in?" Her eyes trailed back to the basin with a frown. "I don't know..." Now she was suddenly concerned. So much for a fun adventure away from people's palace. "You've never seen anything like this before?"

" No... I haven't. " he said as he squinted in the direction of the door. "This though, it's a glamour. Apparently whomever made this place made it to be invisible outside of a certain radius. We can't see out, no one can see in."
Ardyn's knowledge of magic was probably less than hers. But he had the advantage of being more or less composed of one of magic's elemental components. " The ceiling looks like stars, not charts- but actual stars. They're moving. Really slowly..." Ardyn pointed out a small moon rotating a planet, all of it small enough to easily miss. just like the planet orbiting its star. The movement almost looked like the hands of a watch, but so fluid it was easy to mistake. " I think maybe someone used it for scrying? Or...something." He said admittedly having no clue.

"How did we come across it?" If she was nervous, she didn't let it on. Elyn looked up at the ceiling, admiring the work with a small smile on her lips. if she had the chance to, she would want to be under those stars every single night. "Scrying?" She looked between the basin and the stars, noting that it was entirely possible.
Elyn wasn't known for playing safe. At least too safe... She moved back towards the basin, leaning over it ever so slightly. "Maybe with this then..." Her head canting to the side as she held her hand over the basin once more. "I've never really been one to get involved in divination and such, but it is an interesting subject. I remember once Shelzi was trapped in a web of sort.... Maybe this was her? Or my father... He was her avatar."

"Like, one step from a god then?" he said looking at her toying with something most likely cosmic in scale. "Yeah, he's the guy who may or may not approve of the two of us?"
"Swell."
The silver liquid seemed to part at her hand's approach showing the bottle of the basin, it's ebb and flow twisting around the bowl in slow rhythm. It felt like magic made manifest, but it also felt like something was reaching out for her mind. It wasn't intrusive, but instead a soft touch. Then like a viper, a stream of the liquid shot against her hand, another string of it seizing wrist until it could pull the hand down and submerge it.
At the contact of the liquid, the room went white. Ardyn was gone. The world was gone, and the ground beneath her feet disappeared but still she stood. The white space held no shadow, no form, no substance until the far off boundaries of the endless white seemed to crack.
An audible thought ripped through her mind upon the submerging of her hand. "What wouldst thou see?"

She almost laughed at that but was reminded that she needed to talk to her father and tell him all her plans. Swell indeed. "Something like that..." She was too busy with the liquid that she barely heard him. And then everything went white.
Elyn jumped back, looking around at the room. "Ardyn? Ardyn!" She felt her heart racing in panic, wincing at the sound of a voice echoing in her mind. Elyn reflected on the question. This was just magic... These were the types of things that Elyn should have been prepared for. So many things came to her mind that it was hard to pick just one.
The state of her father to make sure he was okay. Shelzi to know if the baby would be safe. New Arisalon and whether this war would put it into shambles. Ardyn.... She wanted to see everything!
"New Arisalon and the Kaliba's. What is their fate?" She put her personal desires behind her for now.

Ardyn oddly enough didn't panic, but instead raised his forefinger and middle finger to check her pulse, his hand infront of her nose to check her breathing. While he was worried about what they'd stumbled upon, he also felt as if this place knew them. Cloying shadowstuff leaked from those inky walls, and surprisingly formed not defenses, nor even dangers- but a chaise right beside the basin. It looked insubstantial, but somehow he could see it was firm.
If Ardyn heard her, he didn't speak back. In fact, the cracks in the white substance grew more prevalent and behind those cracks were brilliant shadows of every color threatening to wash out all the empty space. It pulsed as if it had a heartbeat- "It is known." Came the reply...and Elyn glimpsed the future.
The White City had turned black in places, basalt structures of imposing rigidity- while the great Mage Circles wound through the city transporting goods, people- all overseen by the Adepts. She of course had little knowledge of what they were, but upon seeing them she knew their names. Knew something intrinsically as if the knowledge had been suddenly plucked from one place and put into her skull.
She was weightless, formless, and yet she could move unopposed within the vision of her Grandfather's city, somehow bigger...somehow stronger than before- the high walls in the distance marked with gleaming towers which ended in a spiral of what seemed to be volcanic glass. Riders soared over the streets on black scaled drakes covered in white barding.
The grand forces of New Arisalon stood both as police and protectors, palisades dotting the landscape far beyond the current environs. Farms were larger, people more numerous. The smell of smoke and it's rising obscured one district- but the city looked pristine, legions on the march in drill seemingly plucked from one of her books.
Far beyond the farthest palisade, was something that caught the eye. A long line of people standing by the road.

Elyn felt weightless and a strange sensation fell over her as she looked over the city. The knowledge that filled her mind was overpowering and Elyn wasn't sure what to do with it. The city itself, particularly the damage, had her concerned. There was a change coming to the city, one she wasn't sure was good or bad just yet. It was an oddly powerful image that had Elyn unable to take her eyes off.
Elyn tried to view who the people were and the reason for the line. She wasnt sure how much this vision would give her or just how much time she had but she wouldn't wait around for the answers to be delivered.

Upon closer inspection it wasn't damage. The buildings were built from black stone. While the smoke rising from the ward, was little more than the sign of industry. The smell was overwhelming despite the magic used to diffuse it. Smelting of metals and ores, a grand forge housed in a black stone building- all of it spoke of the past made present. People wore extravagant clothing, styles ripped from other cultures, but one thing remained static. Soldiers. They were representative of something and were armed and armored to show it.
The line of people awaited her across the fields, and at the very edge of Arisalon proper, she realized it wasn't people. It was timbers, wood pressed and cut into the shape of a cross. Hundreds of people. Crucified out of the sight of the advanced city behind them- but in plain view to those who came for business or pleasure.

Elyn felt many emotions, but confusion and fear overpowered them all. She watched the way the smoke twisted and swirled above the city and its strange new black design. How the clothing changed drastically from what she was used to. They all stood there in their armor... While she found some of her grand father's army to be nothing more than simple and willing followers, the soldiers there felt different. Strange. She feared the way things looked.
But nothing prepared her for what she saw next. She wanted to scream- she was sure she did, but no sound came out of her lips. Elyn didn't want to see this future-- she wasn't even sure how far in advanced it was. However, whether it was this year or ten years from now, she didn't like it. It was as if something dark and sinister came to replace whatever good was left of New Arisalon.
"Stop, stop! This is wrong! This can't be!"

Whatever this place was, it did not listen. Once more the world begin to splinter, fracture, and crack- myriad hues blinded and washed away all senses before she found herself among a long series of columns holding up a classical roof, green vines wrapped and twisted up the columns and kneeling before a radiant woman, was a young man no older than his early twenties. He was broad shouldered, wore armor befiting a knight and his hair was the scattered platinum blonde of a Kaliba, so light as to look like nearly white straw cast in the sun.
On his shoulder was hung a shield the likes not seen, but in his hand in salute to this radiant woman was a sword seemingly made of metal and crystal both. It seemed to glow with it's own inner light, scarcely diffused by the blade's construction.
A young woman in her early twenties held salon in a bustling manor house, the windows swung open for air into the garden courtyard- the garden filled with blue roses and other such rarities. Beyond the garden wall, rose in the distance Blackthorn Keep. Her golden hair and slight figure still so full of life and light, it seemed those who surrounded her had no trouble telling the truth of art and music.
A man with stark white hair and eyes of rich violet sat cross legged within a room, isolated from the world. His eyes closed, he seemed to be performing some mantra, while the sound of a young girl broke his concentration. His black haired lover, boasted a ring upon her fourth finger- and within the city of Silem they seemed to be taking vacation. The rented rooms were neither meager nor opulent, and laughter filled the home inspite of it all. But when the man was alone, he returned every time to that meditative posture. The rush of information was exhausting, but it did not stop- only slow and blur. A golden haired woman slowly growing old despite magic, stood amidst a golden light in a dark bedroom, the night sky filled with a storm. She reached out to that golden light- tentatively...hesitantly, and the man who shed such brilliance reached back. The light was not unlike the radiant woman, but this was dimmer- more spent. Diffused or dilluted. The light faded, save for candles, and the two talked into darkness swept it all away for slumber. In the middle of the night, the woman woke alone.
A general looks tired. Not stressed. Not hurt. Just...tired. Her army is stretched, supported by those one thought would never aid. She looks at the world, light and dark and bitterly swears. She walks with the faintest of limps and when she turns and her face is shown, it shows the ravages of war. She is followed by a shaodw, both friendly- and yet holding her down.
Two blades cut in a flurry, through whom you cannot see. The man laughs as he is taken away into the battle, two families on either side join in the conflict. Soldiers from before march along side him, lead by a man whose form is so indistinct he looks almost a shade. All power is brought to bear, those seen earlier, and many who were not- and at the other side is the form of a gaping maw, a tide of blood proceeding it.

Elyn felt overwhelmed by the power, but she did her best to take it all in. Image after image floated across her mind- just long enough for her to grather who some of them were, while others were still a mystery. She could guess who they were, but she didn't want to take any chances. Everything was more peaceful in these images and Elyn knew they were of her family.
There was one in particular that caught her eye. Her heart swelled at the sight of him, so peaceful in the moment. The sounds had her both happy and sad. She wanted to cry, but the tears wouldn't come. Instead she moved on. "Dad..." She wanted to reach out to all of them; to hold them in her relief of knowing that they were all okay, but Elyn couldn't move. At least not that close. She also knew that this was a future that could be.
Elyn was, at least, thankful to see it all. She was so proud of them, despite the changes of New Arisalon.

After that great vision, in which all came against one- she stood before a vast reflective surface that quivered as if unable to show further- and turned white again. "What Wouldst Thou See?"
Something in her felt...different. Something in the room felt off- and the silvery quintessence released her suddenly, the molten metal like substance retreating away from her hand. She opened her eyes, and beside her was standing Ardyn who seemed to be eyeing a piece of furniture composed of shadowstuff.
A presence once felt in a dream, seemed tangibly close...then like a dark room flees from the light, it was gone. Ardyn looked at her with obvious relief. He moved to her with alacrity and wrapped his arms around her pulling her from the basin. "What happened?"

Elyn felt like her head was full. The vision of the land and her family, all of it so new and fresh in her mind. As her eyes opened, she looked around the room, the emotions still burning at her heart. Elyn wasn't sure what to do other than step back from the basin and into Ardyn's arms. Falling along her cheeks were tears. Her hands came up to wipe them away, slightly confused.
"I saw everything." Everything was spinning, not used to the power. Elyn was not envious of those who could move through the stars and see beyond crystal balls. She knew the future was dangerous to mess with, but she couldn't help herself. "I think... I'm not even sure to be honest but I think my family will be okay." New Arisalon though.... She cringed, everything was so fuzzy.

He didn't pry, he just listened. He held her, his hand smoothing over her back and keeping her near. He was curious..did it show her, her own future? He suddenly recognized that while no physical harm was done, this place was dangerous. He ran a thumb over warm tears, and kissed her forehead. "Shh. It's okay. You see them safe...we're safe. It's all okay."
"It's only been about thirty seconds... Any idea what this is? Maybe the things you have seen- the bad stuff, maybe it isn't true?"

Elyn stared at him, realizing that she didn't see her own future. Which meant that she had no idea what would happen to the both of them. "I... I did see them safe." She frowned, trying to remember it all, but it all happened so fast. Her hand went to her head, trying to figure out how all this happened.
"Then why would it show me the good too? Not that I believe there is one future for everyone... I think it changes based on choice. It might have showed me what could be. Even still.... I saw black buildings, soldiers... hundreds of people...." She frowned. "Everything is hard to keep in my mind, it was so much. I just know that whatever that vision was, I don't want it to happen." She looked scared, the same fear on her face the night she thought she left a man to die in a cell.

" Prophecy...it's never all right. Usually blurry. Vague. So I'm thinking that this is got to be like that? We will do whatever we can- " he said carefully. He'd fight to the bitter end if it was with her... but something told him that the war she wanted to fight might not be hers.
"Did you see who was ruling New Arisalon? If you could find out who did this, you'd erase his advantage, or did the vision show him? "

"I think so," she agreed. Elyn felt confused before, but now it was just worse. "I didn't see who it was, but something tells me they're powerful. Yet... if my family is safe and happy, does it mean that they agree with this new power?" She groaned, frowning at all the questions she didn't get answered. "I should have asked to see something easier. It, whatever it was, gave me a choice."
